It is time to start some rigging


But first I looked at the WNW site for tips and tricks on rigging...basically nada. They did suggest a brass insert in the airlerons to seat them better
So I drilled a hole,I am good at that, and added brass rod; marked the opposing and drilled again and now they press fit tightly but easily removed and adjusted






Now the rear rigging. Pretty good reference photos from the instruction pamphlet for the top side; not so great for the underside or the tail control lines
Tim mentioned EZ line which is what this is...relatively flat in cross section
I addd 2 mm brass tube reamed out with a root canal file on either end of the line as a holder/ tightener. They thread through the eyelets I made from wire and are Ca glued in place





I m going to try a round metal wire for control surface rigging if the stuff I have looks in scale.
Then the main wing rigging

Instructions leave much small detail hard to decipher. I like the reference photos they include, but certainly not a step by step on rigging up the sucker. I had to look at other builds to figure out the tail.
Basically two wire types here...controls that are a round wire I painted silver and the rigging flat wires that are blackish.

Here is bottom tail rigging:


Then the control wire added added in:



And the topside done:


A bit sloppy, but hard to keep that wire straight and lots of extra glue b/c it doesn’t want to stay put!!!
I used Tom Grigat’s method of a brass tube that lets you thread the rigging back into it after going through your eyelet loops.
Really looking forward to the wings

I saw Treasure Island at the theatre on Boxing Day so every time I look at this post and see ‘rigging’ I turn into a pirate and start speaking with a West Country accent going ’Gaarrggh’ at the end of every sentence!

That looks really fiddly but the results look great so far!

I stayed up past midnight last night getting eyelets made and glued to the upper wing
No elves came and finished off lacing the rigging for me unfortunately.
So New Year’s Eve day and I am swamped with dad chauffeur stuff, shop, prep and pack for a ski trip (I don’t wanna go really) and both kids are going out tonight. I am lucky if I will get an hour or so in.


It is too nice of a kit to rush, so I m just gonna chill and see what happens.
I have all the parts made and painted, just upper wing attatchments and rigging...but that is the part that fiddles

I think I finally have the rigging pattern figured out
There were a couple holes that weren’t located by the manufacturer, so I had a heck of a time making sense of it until I pulled out my Eduard kit. Between WNW and Eduard I think I got all the info.

Mental notes:
1. add the rigging to the top wing before gluing it in
2. Make sure your eyelets are really secure
3. You will break a wing strut, you just will
4. Work from the inside out





In a weekend day I got the middle ones done and one wing’s inners done

Oh man it almost got beaten to death yesterday
Had all the inner stuff done and a support broke off and pulled out one of the rigging eyelets
Managed to fix things up, but some glue slop to cover
Got her to here last night

I do not have the words to describe my admiration at both your levels of skill and patience. The work already looks amazing and I’m sure you will spend moments in the future looking back on the completed model and recalling what an evil it was to pull together.

I have got over the big hump of the fuselage and inner wing rigging. What is left is the outer wing “X’s“ and all the operation wires
I have broken off the tail fin and damaged parts of the tail rigging so those will need repairs
BUT I am quite happy where I got to...pic soon

Last night I managed to do the "X" pattern rigging on the end wing supports with out destroying anything...small miracles to celebrate
Many miles to go before I sleep on this build though

I deviated and parked her for a bit and worked on a car, but I have now wrecked that Porsche’s front wheel assembly so got back to da plane.

She is all rigged up and I think everything in place
It is tough as instructions vague for rigging and research photos don’t have detail of small rigged connection areas
Sneak peek before some touch ups, some dot oil staining, a base and better light photos

Nice work mate. Love the wood detailing. I really must try a WnW kit. But will take the 2 hour drive 1st to visit PJ aviation museum and get a good look at the real thing, hope they let you take photos tho.
