That's a hard edge... that's gonna be tricky.
I can't wait to see how you sort through the masking.
All the OVM tools make it a bit of a pain.

It's not gonna be hard edge, I was just using that as a guide line to the sort of look i want, I'm not a fan of hard edge Camo on tigers.

Whew... good idea... and I agree.
I know they're accurate and genuine... blah blah... but I always though that they're not as interesting to look at.
It will be cool to see that one come out.

I know hard edge would be accurate for the tank, but as I said this is my ideal tiger build so not 100% accurate with the zim etc

Hoping to get the rest of the track holders finished today and then start to get the green brown Camo on.

Right spent a few hours on this today.

Got all the spare tracks holder made and glued into position, I'll get the "locking" bottom part on once the tracks are attached.



Also made the rain guard for the gun sight aperture. I used the same PE as the track holders were made from.



Then I spent a hour or so, spraying the freehand Camo pattern. I'm happy win the result I'll change/touch it up as the days go by until I'm totally happy with it.

Xtracrylix ral colours (the best colours for tritone IMO)

I like your handiwork with the airbrush The camo scheme came out really nice. BTW, I was wondering about how much glue was needed to ensure a strong enough bond to hold up the spare tracks. I mean, those track holders are pretty small. And the white metal track links are a lot heavier than plastic.

Again, nice work on the big cat!

Not much glue was needed, just a small amount if thin superglue and then some activator and its fine.

Excellent camo Paul. Absolutely top-drawer airbrushing skills, it's really quite humbling to see work of this quality.

The soft "edge" that doing the camo freehand gives is just brilliant. I'm just going to have one last look at those pics.........until my next "last-look" that is!!

I started on the road wheels today.

Got them all mounted on sticks to make them away to handle when painting.



Also mounted the hubs to each wheel, easy on the out road wheels not so on the inners.

So i used the hollow tube of a cotton bud which fits perfectly into the hub and then onto the wheel itself via the cocktail stick. This ensures it painted the same as the wheel.



Off the the booth and the friul replacement front sprockets needed priming in alclad grey primer (Vallejo will do fine I just prefer cellulose based on bare metal), using my Iwata revolution.





The alclad is great dry to the touch almost instantly I love it. So on to the Vallejo red brown primer as I used on the tiger itself.



Gotta love how I have big box of gloves next to the booth and still never use them, but be fair there a tad tight on me and I look a bit nuts with droopy fingered gloves on (and yes lee I know I looks nuts anyway)

Least I didn't get much paint on me



I'll be back once the primer dry to apply the dunkelgelb and then Camo the wheels.

I think half the fun is in painting my hand.
I mean... why not.
Just don't pick yer nose after..... evidence.

Ok so I was all set to get going with the chipping today and I thought instead I would get the kubel wagen built and painted to the same stage as the KT that way I can do the weathering stages at the Same time on each vehicle.

So here's the box and sprue shots.




Just two sprues and the chassis, makes a change from the KT.







Nice and quick to built.







Done, ready for some scratch building tonight or tomorrow. I've also got a resin roof coming for it as I want it roof up. Also need a suitable figure that'll be talking to the KT commander

Looking forward to seeing what weathering you do as it something I want to try soon.

I wanted to add a jerry can to the rear side of the wagen so using some scrap PE I set to work.

And In position, the metal cage looks to chunky to me so ill be redoing tomorrow. But it's the effect I'm after.



Also added so damage to the wheel arches using me,PE pliers.

I was going to get the full PE detail set for the kw but to be honest I've had enough of one for now and I don't think the kit needs it. Hopefully the the resin roof won't take long to come

Great stuff as usual the King Tiger will look massive next to the Kubelwagen!

Ok so i redid,the PE strips with thinners PE.



I then primed,the KW in Vallejo red brown primer, I also assembled,the wheels and gave the tyres a coat of tamiya rubber black (first time I've used tamiya acrylics since I got the mr hobbys)



Then using my hobby dunkelgelb I sprayed the KW and the wheels centres (with a circle templete) I used mr hobby dunkelgelb to give both vehicles a different shade of it giving a bit of variation.

When you think of it, the two vehicles would have been made and painted by two different factories and/or field painted by different crews so the colour would be different.

yeah that was my thoughts too. It's is just gonna have the two tone green Camo pattern as well

Like it The damage on the mudguards actually helps to make them look thin.

Just quick update tonight, I lightened some dunkelgelb with some white and colour modulated the high o
Points of the KW, it's nice and subtle rather than full blown modulation. I then got the olivegrun pattern sprayed on, most models I've seen of this have delicate thin green stripes, which to me look wrong, in the field, being sprayed on (if they were lucky) or brush painted I reckon the paint would have been slapped on rather than intricate patterns produced so this is my thinking of how it would look.

The only bit I'm not happy with is the bonnet (hood) I may thin out the green a little tomorrow. Although most of it is hidden by the spare wheel.

I see what you mean about the bonnet.

But like you said it will mostly be covered.

There's not a whole lot of surface area to paint the camo on so it would be really hard to do.
Still it looks authentic to me.
I like the tone difference between David and Goliath... it's going to look really cool in a diorama.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what you have in mind for that.

Well I wasn't happy with the green Camo, so resprayed the KW today and redid the olivegrun stripe sim much happier with them now.
