Mcleod, looks nice but perhaps a little low for longer building sessions. I use my pc desk as build station, and you are right it is not good because you have to clean the desk free from gadgets before building. And then clean the desk of model-building stuff after building and install your gadgets again. But since I have no other option at the moment, it will do.

Do you always have such a clean work area, or just cleaned and arranged it for the picture?

I just sorted it out today, preparation for my first build since about 2000, so that's why it looks so clean and tidy, a new cutting mat too so that helps it look clean lol.
I've got a improvised beanbag to sit on, actually helps posture because I have to sit properly to be comfortable.

Yes it is, just on off cut piece I picked up. I use it when I soldier and also when putting assemblies together as it is flat and true, helps make sure all the wheels are touching the ground etc.

I know, but I hesitate to build a bigger paint rack as the end of the table is against one wall and the front of the table (where the paint rack is) is aginst another and the white walls help reflect what light I have, I really need to add more lighting though.

Cool idea with that tile, the simplest things sometimes make the best tools.
I like that paint shelf too. I wouldn't mind having something like that for all my paints.
Mine are so disorganized.

Mine are too!!! I can't fit them all on the shelf I made that paint rack, Home Depot has these strips of Ash, 1/4"" thick, and about 2" wide. I cut the dividers between the shelves based on the height of several different paint bottles and put it together with wood glue and brads. Only took probably no more than an hour and a half.

I may have to take a trip over to Home depot this weekend and see what I find.

The issue I have with being able to make things like that is the desk I have. Its a PC desk, which is quite good for modelling, until a certain point. And I have reached the space limitations of it now.

If I were to make a modelling workspace I would do it just as I have it in my workshop, go to wickes and for less than £80would get you 2m kitchen work top and two kitchen drawer units, I know it s £80 but a decent pc desk can cost that and won't last half as long

Home depot seem to do loads of stuff more tailored to the hobbyist though.

Have you been in shops called "the range" there quite good too.

Not yet, just checked and there is one in Canterbury, which is fairly close, will check it out at some point.

I have recently relocated my work area as how we have the house organised is still changing after we moved in just over a year ago. As you can see I am still sorting it out whilst trying to get my group build finished for the looming deadline. The Microwings build is being done by my daughter who has been inspired by the 'Medieval Cottage' scratch-build she did for school.

I used to smoke one years ago but I quite smoking so its a decoration now.

thanks coen, got a small collection of pipes, tend to get a lot of funny looks on the street when people see me smoking it but i enjoy it funny though i don't smoke cigarettes

mmmm pipes, that brings back some memories, I used to love Clan Aromatic tobacco, thinking about ditching ciggies and going to a pipe again, so much more civilised

I've always hated the smell of cigarettes and I hate the sight of all the butts on the ground.
Since I quit I've become a bit of a that geezer from down the road about out sometimes.
I've always loved the smell of a good pipe though. That's why I smoked one I guess.
People give me funny looks cause I'm ugly and my mum dresses me funny.

McLeod - funny you should mention Clan its my pack of choice its the nicest smoke of the tobaccos I have available here, tried condor too but always found it very rough and after a while of smoking it you'd almost have a smoke screen made ahaha

Coen - Im well used to the funny looks from being the "that group" in school, the hairy guys dressed in black, chains and listen to metal, though my metal head days are behind me, I find the pipe still brings the character without having dress head to toe in black

I used to smoke cigarettes (20 a day) but gave up 7 years ago when my son was born. Just smoke the odd cigar now - Habanos only though, can't stand anything other than Cuban

Used to buy my old man those mate, quality cigar and not too expensive either. I used to hate the smell of cigars i used to stink of stale cigar smoke everyday working with him, lost him to cancer 4 years ago and love the smell when i catch it in the air now.

Weird thing is every now and then when im alone and i know for a fact no-one is around, i get a unmistakably faint smell of cigars around me.......

most I can afford cigar wise are Hamlets hahaha

I hear what you're saying Paul. Lost my mum recently and swear blind I can smell her perfume at times. Our sense of smell is our strongest cognitive sense to the point when we are born we recognise our mothers by her smell apparently.

Yeah its weird I tried loads of different baccy's, used to order taster packs online where you'd get a variety of different little samples, some of them were realy good, but I always went back to Clan, I think its becasue I grew up around it so the smell was imprinted on my brain lol

it does have a lovely air to it, and also i found when out in the countryside with mates it keeps the miggies away

The only reason that I even smoked my pipe is because it was my Grandfather's.
He was my best friend and personal hero when I was a kid, and I wouldn't be who I am today if it weren't for him.
So the smell of pipe smoke... Irish Mead is what he smoked or Sail once in a while, is very special to me.
I can understand your sudden fondness of cigar smoke Paul, and your Mum's perfume clinging to you Alex.

It's also good for keeping the miggies away like the man said. haha.

Coen - that is very touching about your grandfather, I think often we owe a great deal to our family members for becoming the people we are now, speaking of family keep safes I was recently given an old pipe rack by my uncle (the person who got me into the hobby) with an array of very old pipes that he collected over the years and one that belonged to my great grandfather

I dont dare to smoke from it

It's not normally that clean and tidy.

Well here is my retreat from the world.

First area is really for heavier stuff than a model but sometimes it´s nice to just stand up and build a little while.



Second is where i´ll be painting and weathering etc.



And last is where i´m building the stuff



Everything is not finished yet, i´m missing shelves for paint and more toolholders on my building desk but it´s getting there.

Impressive looking man cave you got there - the A-Team could drive a car in there and then drive a tank out lol
