Hello and thanks for the kind comment :cheers2:
There is an old saying about being "careful what you wish for"...it is a lot of time, work, money and stress building a house.
We will have a gaggle of people offering us $ for it when it is finished, but I won't sell it as I don't want to go through this again!!
Real estate and land values have shot up like crazy here since we began the build and the taxation is going to be monsterous

I wouldn't wanna give up that house eighter. It's good to know though that people are already interested, i think that makes the market value go up. I would just want the house for the sight over the lake and mountains. So lovely

For a living I build houses for others but I'd love to do what you're doing one day : . Whatever you do don't sell and enjoy the fruits of all the hard labour and hassle over the coming years and remember when its all finished and you crack open that first beer on the new deck all that will be forgotton :th:

A great build and looking forward to the painting, though I suspect we might have to wait a while for the weathering

Hopefully not too much weathering too quickly....trying for minimal maintenance and maximum durability
Funny, I was just thinking about the first Sunday brunch on the deck with some Champagne

Funny, I was just thinning about the first Sunday brunch on the deck with some Champagne
BC smoked salmon
pink champagne (for no other reason than it matches the fish)
A bitter salad with a blackberry vinaigrette (spent a summer in Vancouver (North? On top of a big hill looking down on the Mac) every block seemed to have a blackberry bush growing out over the road

I'm looking forward to the house warming party. I'll bring as much beer as I can get through customs. Best to do it before you lay the carpets as I'm a lightweight and tend to throw up after 2 shandies. I also tend to lose my bearings and end up peeing in cupboards!

Continued good wishes for the build Sir.

Note to self - when hammered look for toilet seat and hard floors as evidence as to the presence of a urinal versus a storage space. I tell myself that every time but does it work? Does it boll***s!

I find turning the light on helps define the use of the space.....or just denying you were ever there sometimes works :th:

Wow August 1st already
House has had all its drywall inside completed and is about to get stucco, stone and cherry details on outside
We have been working hard to clean up all the drywall dust and mess so we can get the painters started this coming week
Have spent a four day weekend vacuuming, scraping and cleaning walls, ceilings and floors. All full days
Inside pics of living and kitchen...no drop sheet on the floor, that is all mess!!
Image
Image
Bedroom fireplace, look at that crap on the floor :x
Image
Entryway with vestibule area
Image

Garage has been poured as have back stairs, here they are in rebar, though we had them reinforce the front edge rebar more, dug a trench and poured a footing at the garage front..not me though that is hard work
Image
Image

Ok up to date, I gotta get off my ass and clean up more

Loooking good ! Can see the end in sight now....
When the missus decided to lift all the floor coverings and found hardwood timber flooring boards ( tongue and groove). She thought it was a great idea to polish them. Well to cut a long story of hardship to the bone. No drop sheets back in 1965 and plaster was ingrained throught the house. The boards all had imperfections which to some is appealing ( I can see that ). That plaster really gets in there... :(

Does look good now... :D

Yes Larry and Mo and I am Curly.
You get all kinds of excuses like they can't roll the scaffold and he trips on dropsheets when he is on stilts taping and mudding. Some is true, some is BS
Have a peek what I did with the garage before they drywallers came today...paper on the floor

So here are some action shots. My lovely wife scraping up joint compound

The start of my morning, a smallish island of clean(ish) in a sea of dusty mess

Digger, you are right, the plaster gets in there. Supposed to do the basement vacuuming, but we are just wiped out, no way today.

Or cruise Pintrest and save thousands of pictures of builds and such you never do

I am looking forward to the next phases as we get to do a model room, workshop and some display areas for my hobbies....that was why I started this whole thread.
I take my hat off to you scott : as well as the points you've mentioned, i would think you will save a fair bit project managing by yourself's.

On a lighter note, i noticed the picture of your good lady actually working !
Money is'nt everything but it sure keep's the kid's in touch.

Ya, she is no pure trophy wife...in looks, maybe, but she is a hard working girl who understands that money doesn't just appear.
There is an old saying about having a fool for a client when you are your own lawyer in court....being your own contractor is kinda like that too

Beautiful house and interesting to see the wood construction process as we don't normally build houses of wood in England. I guess you have lots of trees and we have lots of mud :P
Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way you'll be a mile away and he'll be shoeless.

Congrats Scott, an enjoyable place to live there for sure.

The finish line is close now...or not. it's often at the end with all the little details that everything goes wrong.

Hang on dude, you'll get it
