Weekend Goals and Accomplishments

My goal was to start the hover sig, but I can't find it and not sure if it is running yet.

I have another “day off’ tomorrow, but it involves going to the office for the computer nerds to update the fricken software, again.
Then I have a study club night until 9pm.....sweet day off indeed

So today was all mine After a lovely long dog walk with just me and the pup,
I worked on the shark spraying Ultimate primers as the paint
Just have to get those google eyes smooth
Two versions so far tested


I am leaning towards the Poo poo poo version

Getting closer, I would finish without all those other stupid interruptions tomorrow
I acrylic painted the background blues as well, then cut out the frame’s internal rabbets for sitting on the backboard, just need the mitres cut. All the letters are painted Ultimate gloss black now

So I have finished the Shark project off and the parents are ok with it.

Functional and pretty, super easy to do with a homemade jig for the table saw
It was a super dark,dense wood cut very interesting slices on the table saw and it would chip out if I was stupid with a chisel.
Pretty sure it was Ebony
In Ced's grade 8 woodworking class he made a boring pine frame and he spiced it up with bloodwood inserts at the corners.
I just showed him how to do it, gave him some thin bloodwood biscuits and off he went with the Japanese handsaw
The teacher didn't believe he did it himself and forbid them from bringing projects home anymore.
That is education at its finest

Yeah some teachers think they know more than they do.
I had a teacher ridicule my son in class for 2 projects he did, because the teacher thought he knew everything and didn't want to learn himself. My son was in the right. Yeah so not so impressed with some of our educators and I had a different one prance around saying they were the most important class of workers because they imparted knowledge and society would crumble without them....I could say more, but you get the picture.

Had a smilar experience when the daughter Mk 1 was still at school doing Design Tech. She had to turn some part up and the surface finish was frigging awful so I asked her how she was doing it, what the lathe was set at for rotational speed and feed rates. The answers left me gob-smacked - her teacher had told her to use a cutting speed on stainless steel of double the book value. She had the lathe set up for approx 28m/min. I got the books out from my apprenticesip and went through the theory and practice of cutting with her and showed her the recommended value of about 14m/min as well as how to calculate the gear train for the head stock to get this as the teacher wouldn't show them this bit. Apparently the next class the teacher got stroppy when she changed the gears over on the head stock to give the slower cutting speed - the workpiece came off with a polished finish instead of a scabbed one - and I got a letter from the school telling me not to interfere in future.

You should have been given a letter of appreciation and an invitation for a special night demo for kids who were interested in pursuing the field. Perhaps experts should be asked to share their knowledge and celebrated for it ...Radical idea.

Exactly......good on her for trying it the right way.
Shame on those who can't do and teach instead and have huge inflated ego's.

No Friday off here but hoping to get some bench time in tomorrow before heading over to my folks on Sunday to assist in putting up decorations etc.

Hoping to get enough enthusiasm to start spraying some paint tomorrow.
Actually had a SH*%T of a day.
A woman backed into my car without looking as I was parking. She admitted it, but then kept saying she wasn't drinking and hadn't had a drink at all yet repeatedly...it was 11am.
No insurance, almost no damage to her car...yet because my car was moving the insurance says I'm 50% at fault. Damn I was about to move forward so hardly moving at all and she fair slamed into me.
So I'm going to be without a car for at least a week, have to get the car to the repairer...find my way home 100km away and then cough up $500....something ain't right.

I have blown up my drill press and destroyed a non replaceable pulley for it trying to fix it
Have to try and jury-rig a pulley into place or the whole thing is at destination F’D
I tried to repair a broken leg on daughter’s little foldable table....and destroyed the damn thing so have to remake a leg completely Complete FUBAR!
I think I am going to drink now and stay away from the helicopter model
Dammit I am going to be dragged,out shopping

You had a worse day than me it seems.... I feel the pain of it as well.
Your drill press, I strongly suspect the pulley can be replaced. Pulley's are dime a dozen. If you send me a pic I may be able to point you in the right direction and whats wrong with yours...the v worn or has it been slipping on the shaft.
Shopping I can't help with, of course if you can steer them in the direction of a hobby shop then it ain't so bad...

I mean, I've also been falling asleep on the couch at 6:30pm when watching TV this past week, so no idea what's going on.

Do another hobby, go out, exercise

Yeah I've re-arranged the house and spent some time out on my real motorcycle, as well as doing other things.
For some reason, I don't like the idea of having more than one model on the go at a time, but maybe I need to do that, just to have some variety.

Part of me just wants to disappear and clear the head. Maybe I just need to do that.

For me I think because this hobby is mostly a individual isolated thing it doesn't help. Where if you use these forums as way of contacting others helps. Although when it comes to painting or a particular problem building can stop me dead in my tracks and the loss of mojo follows.
I have tried starting another kits even finishing, but often have 6 kits not painted. I'm trying to over come that by training myself to finish one kit at time, clean my desk ( helps a lot ) and to catch up finish a older kit for every new one. That's kinda working in a reluctant way.
These group builds are a good thing as long as you just do a small bit every night. Progress is made and you have something to show and contribute ..helps.

Blimey @digger303 and @Twokidsnosleep you both did Friday the 13th in Style didn't you - hope you both get your respective damages sorted out as quickly & cheaply as possible.

@newjerseydamo the guys have already said it but if you're not feeling like getting to the bench then don't force yourself; if you're anything like me you'll just end up screwing something up and having to fix it again later. I hit a real slump this past summer and just spend time away before coming back in the Autumn and making decent progress when I had my head straight(ish) and was ready for model work again. But everyone's different and you've got to do what's right for you.

As for my own bench time this weekend I had intended to spend some time on the Osprey in the hovering SIG but instead distracted myself by building up some figures and other junk for my brother's Tiger which is now starting to spawn a dio… I don't have a build thread for this one so here's how it's shaping up so far

This sort of makes up for all the time I don't get off during the rest of the year, mainly the spring and summer. On balance I'd rather have less time at Christmas and more during the year. I should now at last get some bench time having thus far spent time on sorting festive arrangements and family and friends over pretty much every day

Bought some live edge lumber (maple) for a bench insert and another for an entryway table top:



Made another coat hanger for mudroom wall and installed:


Had some time with animals:




Drank a bit too much, slept in a bit too much, ate too much, modelled a lot and developed a liking for lazing about..too much
A couple days just kinda drifted past with out anything really getting done
Ah well such is a vacation. I had a list of 22 items to get done over the holidays and did 14 of them. Not terrible.
Now off to the office to prepare for tomorrow’s battle.

So holy heck what a week.
In a word SNOW.
I have only worked part of Tuesday this past week and it kills my work schedule. Seems I have shovelled and shovelled and shovelled snow the whole time and I am beat and sick of it. Drains your energy. More on the way as well
We did have some fun it it, my boy apparently thinks he is Ken Block in the Subaru...video on my Youtube channel

The dog absolutely loved the snow, she would lay for hours in it...while I shovelled.



The cat, well she got two feet in the snow and that was enough

Coming back to Australia for a short time and visiting me for 3 days, more like one as my place is being used as a base as she shows the young bloke around. Then back to Perth and off to the east coast for more sight seeing.
I warned her not to go getting her self a American.....visiting can be problematic. Do they ever listern....not likely...

She groans when I spray upstairs and I cant even smell it in the room I spray in
I had my shop door closed and the windows open inside plus my handy dandy water sprayer in case of fires from the laser
When I do leather I am planning some air evacuation for sure so it deosnt smell like a mausoleum in there

Would love a winters rainy day right now....it's heading back up to 45 for the next week. Had a rather lovely 30 yesterday, but those days don't last long.
