My weekend goal and week's goal, as I started this Saturday, as nothing to do with modeling. I have to sand and stain 955 square feet of deck at home... so no modeling for me for a while.

This is gonna be a tough weekend for us
Had to put our pup down yesterday afternoon after she had an internal organs crash late Wednesday night.
She went from fighting cancer just fine to a mess in a matter of hours after her walk
We did it at home and I held her as she relaxed, went to sleep and had her last breath
Horribly lost this morning without her to greet me at bedside for our morning walk. Very lost
She was a great friend and companion and has left a huge hole in our hearts. She was an awesome dog
I hope she is digging in snow or running though tall grass now

I expect she is resting comfortably in a pile of snow.

So sad to hear the news mate - as Matthew already said she'll have found herself a pile of snow to play in.

Saturday almost gone and the missus has her list prepared for me and just when I think I'm on the last on another magically appears. Maybe tonight and tomorrow is bench time ?


Well another weekend has bitten the dust and the missus got her her list for me completed, but I didn't get any bench time at all. It is now Monday morning and in 10 min I'm back at work to do it all again. I need to win lotto and retire.... as if that's going to happen.

Well the missus is back to work and she has to house sit as well. I have a whole 10 days to be unchained and relaxed.....yippee
Made some progress today on a workshop shelving unit. Not up to furniture standards , but it will never fall apart.
Tonight I was persuaded to part with some more cash......some really nice resin aftermarket upgrade kits going cheap....1/2 price
Sunday is the day for some serious bench time. I can feel it in my bones ..oh and a little more on the shelves.

I would love to see the shelves

Been looking for some butcher block bench tops for the wood shop and found some nice Acacia ones 8 feet long for 1/3 the cost of a maple top. So I bought two! Now to clean up and clear some room and find some suitable support system. I am thinking metal pipe legs as the price of wood has shot up to 3-4x normal here.

Nicely patterned wood. I wood (ha ha ) have thought Canada having so much forest that certain woods would be fairly cheap....not so it seems.
Patio box tube would do the trick too and flat surfaces are easier to weld or heavier stuff like painted rhs...65 X 35 X 2.0 RHS
Pipe is tricky to drill and screw into if laying the bench onto it.

My shelf unit isn't anything pretty, made up of recycled bits and pieces with some sloppy joints. But it won't collapse under load I can guarantee you of that.

Good news from my end though....it rained at last....39 points or 9.75mm depending what system your familiar with. I can get on with fertilizing on Monday. The crops were reaally hanging out for a drink. They are all at the seedling stage and the top 8 inches of soil was very dry. More forecast for next Friday
If you have a scarp recycling yard they will sell you bits and pieces if available on the day. You do have to be lucky though. Steel fabricators too always have a bin full of what they recycle...usually for beer money.

I know a lot of work for a small space but worth it to please and let her have her space outside for the summer. She's a French literature teacher, so she has all summer off and reads a lot !!!!!!

So this is my weekend project, other than some weed hacking
Making metal end caps for the bottom of the sliding doors at my office.
The painters adjusted my door stops wrong and so two of the big sliding cherry doors have cracks in the bottoms now


Using aluminum from our metal roof and cutting with super awesome bimetallic bandsaw blade I got delivered yesterday
Then bending things in a vice. Three more to make, then sand up, prime and paint black
I have to wait to install as I don’t have enough matching black metal sheet screws so Amazon again.

It is a design flaw having the bottom guide too close to where the maximum door opening will be do it potentially hits the bottom face edge of the door.
Relies too much on a set bumper stop on the sliding rail to halt the door before it opens too much. With time, the bumper will move over years pressure of door sliding to max open…whammo cracked wood
The worst chipped base the door is always open, so it is just getting pushed farther open all the time

I think I understand and it's that sort of thing that "grinds my gears" Probably cost thousands for that door set and at the last minute the manufacturer includes a solution for the door stop that is next to useless....

Looks like it was a weekend for DIY - we spent most of it trying to work out the vagaries of an overflow from the header tank in the loft.

Good news is that it looks like we've got it sorted, bad news is that it meant virtually no bench time but at least we didn't flood the place

My lofty goal this weekend is to finish building my new computer . So far I've managed to get it mostly together although a extra wire had me baffled and worried. As much as I looked and studied the instructions nothing mentioned this damn wire or had a diagram of where this plug should go. In the end I decided it must be a spare case wire for a fan.

Did ya notice my marvelous engineering skills on display........a wire ( every farmers fix ) to support the weight of the graphics card.
I did have a little clean up before. I had boxes,plastic bags and packing all over.

The missus will be most please when she has her dinning table back.

Funny you should mention that Digger... Next project is a new PC here - I built the last one in 2007 and now its struggling with Win-10. Not looking forwards to the data transfer, old one has 3 x 1.5 Tb data drives and a 1 Tb O/S drive (dual boot - Ubuntu Linux and Windows 10).
The wife has already had the screaming fit (I kid you not - she literally screamed) about not taking over the dining room table. Mind you - she had a point, I did kind of take it over with a Sun workstation and its associated arrays....

Funny you should mention that Digger... Next project is a new PC here - I built the last one in 2007 and now its struggling with Win-10. Not looking forwards to the data transfer, old one has 3 x 1.5 Tb data drives and a 1 Tb O/S drive (dual boot - Ubuntu Linux and Windows 10).

Got power flowing through it nicely and the Post screen came up. I then shut it down and inserted the Win 10 instillation Usb drive and then I hit a snag......It wanted HD drivers....BIT TRICKY SINCE nothing has been installed or formatted.
STATUS......I'm currently a rug muncher

EDIT.....RUG munching put on hold. I switched it off went into the bios enabled a memory do dad and it started reinstalling from the beginning again, but this time it went right through without a hitch. Currently installing the MB drivers.....

I think your tech skills out shine mine by a country mile. I'm still having trouble setting up my email account and transferring all the contacts and files over. I managed that Ok with the browser although My book marks are still a mystery the old tab down the left side in Win 7 seems to be gone.....sigh

Hoping to do some gaming. Got a gigabyte pro wifi 570 Mb,Saphire 6700xt gpu and bought Fallout 4.
Win 10 still doesn't like me and it won't connect to internet and I can't transfer all my email contents over. So still using the old one atm. Every so often I go back and have another go at it. I managed to get my phone to act as a hot sopt wifi connection once and now even that doesn't work now. Kinda pulling my hair out and may resort to actually taking it to a tech guru.



Ps...It is much quieter than my old one. Have a Be quiet case.

So aside from some office stuff, I want to finish some drawer dividers, test out the new metal polisher machine, get on that damn Vincent motorcycle and finish her. But if I am sick or feeling shitty, lots of cat cuddles under a blanket and rewatch Boba Fett is plan B

If I get both afternoons in the den then I stand a chance of getting it all done; but most likely I'll get one day, crack most of it and finish it off next week.

I don't know how to say this, but everything went pretty much to plan and Bob was definitely in the house... it's a worrying development

Time to give this thread some input.
I've been attacking my shelf queens and I've done as much as I want to to these two kits. No real weathering pin washes or the like. I tried a little colour modulation on the KV-1 without over doing it. Somehow the camera highlights it a lot more than my eyesight. .....I thought it was more subtle until I took a pic. Damn it's back on the shelf now for good.....





I've got my stukka to finish now, but I'm having a bugger of a time colour matching as the paint was mixed with Tamiya ( don't remember the mix) and now I've only got Mr Hobby gunze. 29 tries and non are quiet right and I don't really want to repaint the whole plane... I must keep a diary in future....I've said that a million times before one day I'll learn.

The WW1 tank looks amazing. That is such a good paint job.

It's a Takom kit Neil and a easy build despite all the wheels .....which are hidden so painting isn't a issue.

Had a pretty productive two day weekend with Lots of different projects attacked

1. BMW taillight assembly rewired as the ground wire overheats, burns out and shorts so you don’t have any rear lighting. It is a well known long history problem with bmw lights.
I lasted driving around like that for a week and would have to wait another week for my service appt to even look at it.
$137 in parts and less than an hour’s work, fixed.
The dealer wanted $200 just to look at it and I have heard $600-800 to do what I just did to repair it. Brutal.
A little google/youtube search and guys have the issues nailed down and walk you through the repair. Easy money saved.

2. Replaced the clear thin plastic sheet on the 3D printer as somebody put the corner of a scraper through the other one
Simple task and the printer is re-zeroed to home and ready to run.

3. Pool maintenance. Have a 12x12 pool for the 30* weather and have to keep the chlorine and water levels right and strain out stuff

4. Project for my sister…a free little library.
She wants this box with a door, shelf and a roof. They stick them on a post and people give and take books. She has done tons for us especially hand me downs to the kids so no reason to say no.
Also she didn’t have any dimensions or conceived plans so I got some on the net and went at it on how I thought it should be done with recycled materials.

Plywood box with shelf and angled roof sealed with titanium roofing stuff from our house.
Still need the metal roof sheathing but awaiting a tool to arrive for cutting that.
Now working on the door which is left over maple baseboards that I saved from an office demolish a few years ago.



I am using my little Grex compressor and airbrush with the largest paint cup to spray the Spar coating on it. Waiting for the first coat to dry before a second spray. Works great and I will use this method to refinish our front door soon.





5. This will be the third Sunday night we go golf twilight together at a local course where my son works. Been a lot of fun and every time there are more laughs and less squabbles. I bought some LED lit balls to use on the late holes. When hit the light turns on for 8 minutes
