I took my Saturday and cleaned up all the Halloween decor outside and tidied after a windstorm
Had ordered some tools from Amazon to let me change my wheels to their winter set, so took the morning finishing that
Then Sunday mid day,this happens
Didn't stick but funny timing as I could not get a tire change appointment anywhere for the entire month of November
Changed the wife's suv to winters too.

Snow! Also, the wife wanted to start putting up Christmas decorations today. We compromised until the day after Thanksgiving (US) to not be labelled as crazy people.

Video of it for ya…supposed to be in slow mo. It was coming down pretty hard with beautiful big flakes
Nothing sticking on the roads really. She made me drive her car to the office this afternoon “to make sure the wheels didn’t fall off”
Ya, nice
I get a little wonky after halloween and have to hold myself back from decorating before our Remembrance Day Nov 11th.
Then the Christmas lights go up. Decorations and tree not until after my bd the 5th December

well that's a world upside down ! as I should be the one with that usually this time of year ! but we've been in the mid 20's since the last 3 weeks after being around 5 C all the end of septembre and start of octobre.

Man, my weekend did not go as planned. I was hoping to make some progress on battle damage to the viper. I never even got to sit down at the workbench. There is always tomorrow.
On another note, we did NOT get snow. We had temps in the 80s and had the A/C on. I am not a huge fan of living in Texas.

We had a snow like that last week. It came down really hard and wet. We only got about an inch of snow though and it was gone the next day. I've done a lot of car work this year, including replacing the whole suspension on my Jeep. My wife hasn't questioned anything yet. At least not verbally.

3. Get the tracks on the tankette.

I won't get any modelling time until Dec I suspect.

I broke my office key off in the lock today…mid-day on a stat holiday.
Spare key to show how much broke.
I got the door open and unlocked, but the broken bit was deep in the lock
Door opened but cannot be locked Security was no help, the “emergency locksmith” didn’t call after three hours.
So I am on my own. I extracted a broken key root by gently engaging it with a root canal file and teasing it out. Fiddly work.
Matthew helped me from flipping out
Whew.
Could have been a very bad start to a long weekend. I wouldn’t sleep if the office wasn’t lockable

Yowza! Glad it all worked out in the end. Is that root canal file more expensive than a locksmith?

Yes the lock guy would have been more guaranteed…in $, time and stress. Never heard from them at all.
The files are about $15 each file
They are a nickel-titanium alloy “ni-ti” files. Super bendable and flexible and unwind before they break
This one is my new hero and will be retired with honours

Interesting, do you have to use different bit for people with a Nickle allergy? Or is the contact so minimal it doesn't matter? I remember getting my wisdom teeth out. It was meh. I DO remember when I had a crown from a root canal pop off. The dentist said that it was too dried out to replace (I think they might have screwed up a little) and I got dental surgery a few days later. Not fun. At all. The US Navy still owes me a ****ing molar. Though my buddy who was about to go to dental school did some of the surgery on me.
I did some training a long time ago about lock picking and bought a kit to lock pick kit. My wife was terrified when I demonstrated my prowess on some locks we rely on. It's a fun hobby to dabble in.

Yes, it is! I have a couple of sets of picks, it is surprisingly easy to do!

Indeed. After I finished my paperwork jobs and they hadn’t called, I knew I was on my own
So F it I fixed it myself
Ps that doesn’t always work our well for me; often things get FUBAR’d

One of the risks you take and the number of times I've gotten someone in to do a job and it's turned out to be dead easy I kick myself for stumping up the cash to pay these guys to come out 100km at $110 and hr and these days they always seem to have a mate to hold there hand it ends up being $220 plus $2 a km. If I'm lucky and can combine the trip out with some else having a job need doing then it's about $600 minium and damn close to $1000 if it's just me.

My goals this weekend is to get harvest started again this arvo after we copped a bit of rain yesterday and a lot of wind. I did get a small amount of bench time in
and I'm hoping to be able to repeat that tonight or tomorrow depending on how m uch time I have to spend in the paddock and whether the missus will be happy with a token amount of time spent cleaning the pool. Which is in a teerrible state after it got infested with black green algae. It is really hard to get rid of that stuff. I have resorted to letting the water level drop and scrapping it off as much as possible. Chemicals have little effect on it especially when it gets a thick layer on.

With weather getting down into the teens (F) this weekend, one of my initial goals is to stay warm. Jarrod's Home Health Aide will be off this weekend so I also anticipate spending lots of time with him watching TV (sports, movies, and the Peripheral), modeling, playing drums, or playing play station together.
A couple of years ago Jarrod's previous wheelchair van was at the point of being retired so we purchased a new one. For those of you who do not know, the cost of a new wheelchair van is shocking and there is little to no price negotiations involved either. So in my mind, a vehicle that cost as much as it did should not have any issues for 4-8 years. What I'm finding out it the factory stuff will indeed last the test of time, it is the conversion parts that fail sooner. So this weekend I will also have to get a conversion market exhaust (muffler) replaced too.
While we love our trees around our home, we also have several that need to be taken down. You guessed it, this weekend we have a team cutting down two large pines, one ash, and two very large box elders (60 and 80 feet). Three of them are danger close to the house so we hired experienced professionals (insured and bonded) to steer the fallen trees away from any problems. It's amazing how they do that stuff. When they finish cutting up and removing the trees they will also be grinding 7 stumps. Yes that means lots of noise in our neighborhood during freezing weather. With temperatures around 25 degrees (F) and wind speed in excess of 30 mph, I don't know how they do it all day long. I suppose being in their older 20's through young 40's have something to do with it. All I know is I would not be doing it, so I'm glad they are here performing the work.
As for the modeling Jarrod and I may do? Well one is to begin finishing the work on the Spartans. Another item in the wind is the Arado AR196 seaplane. Currently I'm still waiting for the new canopies as well as final detail items. Last, I've also started work on another figure in 90mm sculpted from WW2 Germany. More on that surprise later.
Hope everyone is keeping healthy, warm, and happy. Christmas will be on us before we know it (4 + weeks) and then New Years will be right around the corner. Rest assured that I'm thinking about my many modeling friends and hope your upcoming holiday season is bright, safe, and joyous. I'm sure we will all be talking more about that in the coming weeks.

Weather sounds terrible.
Well I managed to get my farm work done in good time and that freed me up some. So much so managed to get in some bench time. Didn't really get enough done to warrant posting pic's, but I'm getting there. Supposed to be some bad weather heading our way Tuesday arvo, so that may mean some free time Wednesday.

Well for me all through homework of the kids, dinner with friends it would be to put on the Christmas decorations outside ! A bit late to do it with all the snow already at hand. So they will be less on the house this year because of that. And find time at the bench trying to remove most of the fabrics decals on the Pfalz and continuing the weathering.

Yes a few and just tonight the chaser bin drive clutch flew to bits. So off to Geraldton and hopefully they have a new set of friction disc's on the shelf.
I knew those tensioner bolts should have been tighter, but the old boy disagreed so here we are. Still not long to go now with just over 80% done.

This weekend was full I did the odd on the missus job list. Some carpentry work with the intention of adding another couple of shelves to my shoe box using recycled timber and then attacked the A10.
It's not that big when compared to a Stukka yet it is still huge taking over all my bench space.
Now this isn't all my work. Some of the larger pieces, wings and cockpit plus fuselage were already built. I've added to the cockpit and put all the pieces together, plus the under carriage and missiles. To explain this is a legacy build to finish off another's work as a tribute courtesy of his wife.
I've actually been working on this the last 4 days. Half my time has been sorting through bags of parts trying to find the right bits and a lot of these parts don't even belong to this kit. So been a little frustrating, but I'm finally making some head way. This the second time I've pulled this off the shelf, but I feel paint isn't to far off.

Another job off the list ...repairing wall cracks. I've vee ed them out to make it easier to put fill back in.
The wall render is gradually letting go. I wonder if I can get another 10yrs out of it before it all comes down. I'm not wanting to get it all redone as it is mostly just the one side atm and there is going to be a heck of a mess and inconvenience to get it re rendered and the ceiling replaced.

Well it's been a while since my weekend goals contained anything more complex than "not being at work" but things are picking up
So assuming that the car passes it's MOT, this weekend we're heading off to a brewery tomorrow to meet up with an old friend for lunch and also to restock on essential supplies
For those outside the UK, the MOT is the annual test we have the privilege of paying for to prove our cars are fit to run on roads which are generally in a worse state than when the Romans left!
And then on Sunday it's back to the 1/16 StuG to move that along some more now it's starting to pick up some momentum.

My aim is to leverage the birthday theme and see if it extends over the weekend and into more bench time. The missus swallowed a bone which just scratched her throat, but she was convinced she was about to die and we ended up inside A and E at the local hospital. So I reckon I have a fair chance of some bench time.

Two pretty solid days cutting out and putting these boxes together. I still have to cut the backs for them
Handling larger sheet goods is a real chore and things get heavy fast
These will live as upper cubbies in the ski garage as helmet holders above this boot drying rack
Baltic birch plywood edged in mahogany heat stick edging
I may have destroyed an iron doing this….shhh don’t tell it will make a good Christmas gift

Yep Saturday went and they admitted her and flew her to Perth via Royal Flying Doctor, Sunday I was ZONKED after being in A & E for 8hrs Saturday night. I didn't get to bed until 1am, didn't sleep until 2am woke at 7am. Got the call Sunday arvo to pick her up the next day. So Monday to Perth and back again, 900km. Won't be long before it's Friday again.

So ours turned out ok...
Car Passed the MOT
Met my mate for lunch
Restocked at the brewery (buying in bulk works out at £2.25 per half-litre bottle)

I have the last week if August week off.
Back up to the ski place for some more work in the garage
I am not doing very well with measurements and have got things long
Nice puppy walk though
Not too cold even way up in the mountains either.
Pretty common in here using the metric system to be exactly 100mm short. Seems to be a thing, but so annoying to have it all laid out and you think it's just going to drop into place instead it drops straight through being so short and it's the last piece. Entailing you to either have to plane down more timber to size or another trip the hardware store......extreemely annoying.

I was using a wall measure we did for the floor square footage to get an estimate to do the floor epoxy paint chip treatment
A bump out measure failed to detail a 3 inch wide door frame surround. So I made my coat rack backing and it’s shelf three inches long…and failed to account for the end caps width too so I am actually five inches long with no saw up here to cut it
I don’t know, not running on all brain cells or what

In what feels like a lifetime ago, I worked in my father's cabinet shop. After measuring tapes get used for a bit, the moveable part at the end starts to wear away at the tape, and your measurements go long. To combat that, we measured from the 1" line (where possible). Anyone wanna guess what happens if you are not paying attention? We called it the "1-inch trick." Luckily, I never had anything get to a customer being too long, but I did have to trim off an inch a time or two (or more).
By the way, anyone who thinks the imperial system of measurement is easier than the metric system needs to get their noggin checked. When there are only 2 other countries worldwide that use the imperial system as standard, the problem isn't with the system used by the rest of the world.

I got some paint on a mini, so that's a win for me. Next weekend I'll have 4 glorious days to model and paint.
I'm trying to figure out if I have anything that fits into a GB category. Seems we have a bunch going on concurrently according to the calendar.

Got the daughter + son-in-law staying all week - she's recovering from long COVID so under orders from work to take it easy. Spent today visiting an Organic Vineyard, had some nice wines so we bought a couple of bottles after the tour, tasting session and a cream tea. Rest of the week will be weather dependent but likely will involve visiting castles, houses and maybe even the beach!!
Going to be reduced bench time as a result.

Finally after several attempts, we got all the painting and power washing done both at home and for relatives. This weekend we also practiced and performed our percussion parts for the songs we played at church to a combined audience of around 500. On Friday night Jarrod and I went to his alma matter's football game. They were playing their rivals who normally qualify for the play-offs. The final score was 46-13 with Heath (Jarrod's old school) beating Licking Valley. Sunday afternoon we enjoyed the championship games of my wife's summer softball league. They did not win the championship, but we had a great time anyway. All in all it was a very productive and enjoyable weekend.
