How'd we all do?

Not a bad weekend for me, got the Dom almost completely painted (I need to fix one or two bits) and started my Floaty Thing!

I've not done plastic figures in forever, so that's been a strange experience. The little scientists for the sub are...little. They may or may not have eyeballs by the end, just saying...

Since I'm on VACATION there's really no week for me, so I hope to zoom through these builds, possibly finishing the Dom by Wednesday.

Onward to the week!

ok 3 more patients to go
I gotta get some Tamiya supplies at the lHS and maybe a Train HS visit too this weekend for Mad Max figure
The 747 is gonna get real sandy this weekend and I wanna paint up the Ford engine all spiffy like
I will look longingly at the tamiya Phantom, but no promises in starting it..I can handle two at once, but three at one time might overpower me..model kits I mean, ya ;)

Well, I am dreading the back to school week as much as the kids are.....hate the craziness on the roads, parking, setting of agendas.
I focused on the Phantom and got the cockpit done which was the goal and then bonus fuselage together and a start on fitting wing roots as well. Pretty happy with that.
Man 4 days off go past quickly, as do two months of summer. Feels like fall weather arrived early and that early darkness sucks :ugeek:

1. Finish the Dom Tropens for the Sci-Fi SiG
2. Start and finish my Floaty Thing for that SiG
3. A second entry for Summer Sci-Fi, my 1/48 YF-19 with PE
4. Start and finish my entry for I Heart Tamiya

Tall order, but I have nothing else in mind for this break...
Well, Friday and I can scratch #1 off the list! Now to get on with #2... Hope to get the, um, diving bell? Cockpit? Scientist cocoon? The bit where the people go all done up. That all depends upon how cooperative the decals are. Then on to the hull!

Heading to Tesco to pick up some Value All Purpose cleaner, which I have read it really good for removing acryllic paints, my job today is to get the paint on my BF109 off as the Tamiya RLM mixes I found are very wrong, especially RLM71, and come up with my own mixes, I have found some very close matches (according to the iModelKit app at least, we'll see how reliable that is...)

Once the paint is off I will re-prime today and possibly re-do the pre-shading again tomorrow. I will then probably need to leave it until the middle of the week to mask paint again

It does feel like a step back unfortunately :(

My aim is to clear at least one of the four builds off the bench and hopefully two.
John, whats on my bench? Usually a mess and a couple of different models a week.
My motto? I'm not lazy, just energy efficient.

Well, that was a disaster, the Cleaner got the paint off easily, but the cockpit fell apart trying to get the primer off :eeek: Devastated really, it hadn't gone perfectly, but I was feeling quite pleased with how it was going

Still, you live and learn, I have a spitfire on the way so will start that when it arrives and I will be getting the BF109 again, maybe after the Spitfire is finished (although I am tempted to get another in before, I feel I have unfinished business...)

My goals:
Primer the ow70 bodywork: done (cheated and did that at 4 am Friday)
Paint the body work: First mist coat just done.
Be patient, don't rush the coats. (Doing, by doing nothing more till tomorrow!)
Further goals: Head the timing charts in the skip barber 2000 at lime rock park in iRacing. ( Going ok, was top in 2 practice sessions, and 2nd in a third)
Next goal: don't get too drunk while watching and chatting in ISM live chat thingy=)

This weekend I will be start the Spitfire and Bf109 I picked up earlier in the week

I had been trying to start a Airfix British Mark 1 Male and Female as it was 100 years ago they were first used yesterday, but I'm just not feeling it; the kit is a bit boring and doesn't seem very well designed, it also too small I think - the historical inaccuracies they apparently have are also irritating so I will park them and wait until later to pick up a better kit. They were my first ever tanks as well, so maybe I'm not a tank person?

Not much can be done this weekend.

I think today is the zoo with kiddos, and sundry events the next couple days. Maybe I'll sneak in a late night session or two.

Ahh another weekend cycle starts
Been a bit off models lately, mostly thinking how to finish my workshop and the threat of me having to making custom closets.
Had three evenings of after work clean up at the house trying to protect the wood floors from slobs...so no model motivation
Hopefully the mojo will return and I can get the sand rolling on the Boeing and try a couple of versions of Max painted on those new figures.
Getting a bit worried about not having time to finish stuff I have started...HUGE issue to me is do what I say I am going to do, so bailing from a gb or sig is not my style. Will try bit by bit

I'm not going to have much time this weekend I don't think unfortunately as a job has come up that I will need to write an application for that

But I do hope to find some time to finish weathering my Bf109 (just hoping the pigment I ordered arrives) and put the two fuselage halves together. I then hope to put the decals on my Spitfire cockpit and start weathering it, I managed to put some Aqua Gloss on it yesterday to make sure it is ready to go

Just out of curiosity, when you all dry brush do you do it before or after putting the matt varnish back on?

My plan this weekend is to get my 1/72 spitfire all sanded and tidied up and maybe even primed BUT that depends on my sanding sticks arriving from Ultimate. Everyday this week I've thought "today's the day" but been unlucky! Maybe it's finally today?

Wife just reminded me she's out of town Saturday and Sunday leaving me with the kiddos. Cool.

So I'm guessing...not much? Started in on my Tamiya interior, maybe I can sneak in some more work on it after they get to bed. The real bummer is I wanted to get a nice start in on the F-4, but alas.

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday indeed!

New TV arrives today so there will be some testing involved over the weekend. My cup truly runneth over, scheduled activities in no particular order:

Ryder Cup viewing - GO TEAM EUROPE
Priming my M10
Base coating my M10
Trying out my new pigments sets on the floor of my M10 interior
Testing the sound bar and sub-woof woof that came FREE with my new TV
Aviva Premiership rugby viewing
Southern Hemisphere Rugby Championship viewing
Installation of fridge and toilet next to sofa for optimal viewing experience (optional, subject to planning permission)
Watching the two Rogue 1 Trailers on my new TV courtesy of its smart internet functionality :jd:
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

How was the new tube?

(And why isn't it December yet!?)

Man alive it was awesome! The TV has got voice controlled YouTube searching - I was dubious but I held the remote up to my mouth and clearly spoke the words 'Rogue 1 trailer', seconds later I was watching the trailer in glorious HD. Haven't tried the sound bar yet as I already have home cinema set up for blu-rays and xbox. The TV has an optical out so I'm going to hook it up to the home cinema system this weekend, then I'll watch the trailer again - in digital surround sound

Must be about 12 weeks till the movie comes out. One more trailer maybe? Not sure.

The Ryder Cup was awesome to watch too - although we lost, the picture quality was amazing - every cloud as they say....

Thanksgiving in Canada Monday, so I am an afternoon away from four days off
We have no hockey tournament to travel to, thank god, and minimal stuff at the house to deal with.
So fun time with kids and dog and some modelling time!!!
Gonna push hard on the Thunderdome 747 get the base going and the final figures done
I want to start my Phantom for the sig and i have the other Tamiya Phantom one to move forward as well
I will look longingly at the Ford semi box and sigh....she is on the back burner

Some bad news, one of the moderators on auto web site has stage IV colon cancer and no medical insurance.
He is a modelling god to me and I am shocked to hear of all of his problems
So I sent money and you can read his "gofundme" if you like. He is a solid guy and great modeller

I am going to raise a glass to my friend Harry and wish him success in his battle with cancer :cheers2:
Cheers for a good health and a good weekend for all :cheers2:

Ugh...that sounds awful. I'll give the link a look this weekend.

Otherwise that sounds like a great weekend!

Myself, I might be in for a surprise road trip (not the fun kind), but if not then I'd like to get some work done on the Tamiya build and fill and sand the heck out of my wee F-4.

I did manage to sneak in removing a canopy seam this afternoon.

Bon weekend!

Ya sorry to be a downer. Been kind of bummed since I found out especially since I missed the whole month of it unfolding.
You guys in the states can get really screwed with medical costs....great care, just have to pay up
Weather looks crappy this long weekend, so likely lots of indoor stuff
Wife is hogging the shared office space and kicked me out to do business work because I am too loud
So I DRINK :cheers2:

Minor update: I'm home alone for 36 hours. After drinking some coffee that is HOT for once, I'm calling in a personal day, cleaning the house stem to stern, and then I'm going to hunker in my bunker and build kits until my eyes fall out.

Win.
