Undercoat down last night then today.....

That took 3/4 jar of Tamiya flat white to get that level...!!!


Started to attack the base(star).... See what I did there....!!

I had an idea with the base that I didn't want to just stick the decal on, but had a red circle encompass the BSG logo decal,Then so....

Covered it in Tamiya semi-gloss black then taped up for the guided edge, which was done with Tamiya gold leaf...





Then cut a circle out of some tape and popped that on then undercoated it agsin so the red wasn't too dark...



Poped the red on, which at first went pink (you can see round the edges)until I'd put a few coats on.... ....






I was happy with the result and the base ended up like this... (just got to gloss coat ready for decals)....






Going to start putting all the detail in the engines tomorrow and hopefully paint the red stripes on. Got to say, I'm really enjoying this one

I have feeling that this is going to be an eye popper.
That base turned out perfect Lee. I can't wait to see the rest dude.

Forgot to mention about this gap which I had to tape up before paint so no overspray went into the cockpit. Just pulled the tape off.....




Managed to pop some paper in and spray up to match the rest of the model. problem is I'm completely stuck as to waht to do about it. I can't use some styrene sheet as it'll cock up the interior. If I try filler it's going to seep into the cockpit again. I may just leave it, I don't know - Any one got any suggestions?







I've also started the labourious task of masking up for the red paint, this is definitely not an easy masking. It's a right PITA to be honest, but I'm soldiering on....lol

I'm cutting out the inner shape on the decal sheet, then sticking that to the model, then taping around the outside of that to get the correct shapes etc....

Lee, can you not use some 0.5mm styrene sheet to create "raised detailed hinge" type of cover over say 1mm or so wide if the canopy don't open?
Else cover over as already mentioned but run the styrene down the engine intake cowl and lose the end down there where no one can see effectively skinning the rear of the canopy into the engine cowl?

If it were me Lee, I'd pop the canopy off and build that back wall of the fuselage up with a U shaped styrene wedge. It would mean beating the hell out of the exterior paint and some touch ups with the interior though.

The main problem is time Mike! I'm gonna struggle to get this finished on time as it is....!!

I've recently bought the moebius version (same kit) that I fully intend to use to do a hanger deck diorama with sometime in the future...

I will be watching that build closely mate.
Seen a few guys do this type of diorama before and always love it..

How did it go? Just a little bleed in a couple of places, nothing a hairy stick can't sort out

Again the colour was very tricky. But, Vallejo model air to the rescue again (they're definitely growing on me ) mixing two colours at a ratio of 5:1 ended up with this spot on red. Really chuffed with how it turned out. That dark patch you see is just fresh paint - unmasked it then decided to drop some tweezers on it...

That was an odd thing to do Lee.
I'm going to go throw a hammer at my Mother in law's car, she just painted the rocker panels... could be fun hahaha.

However.. that viper is looking vibrant. Wow. Those stripes are perfect buddy. Crisp.

Just got to have a final gloss coat, then a matt coat and add the rear burners and engine. I'm hoping `i'm going to have time to add some weathering, but it's looking real tight at the moment as I have two full days of work and out in the evenings.....

A neat and tidy build and paint job. Very nicely done.

Holy Brad Pitt that's scary looking. It always freaks me out.

OK, so I've had a complete nightmare with the wash soaking into the varnish and actually staining it!

I put this down to using the alclad varnish, this was the first time I've used it. I gave it four coats though and let it dry for 48hrs, which should be enough imo...

Anyways, it's no where near what I wanted it to look like and I really don't like it at all. I'm going to give it to my son to play with, but I will reveal it as we've had so few get over the finish line...
