This is the most challenging model I have ever built. It has kicked my but something seriously
I cannot count my chickens yet and start thinking diorama yet, but I do like those images in front of the garage

Thanks for looking in and the kind comments.
I think I would have trashed this kit at the start if I didn't have some weird love for this era of open wheeled racing cars.
I have seen that 1/6 build on another site and may have talked with the builder...he is amazingly skilled
Looking forward to see what you come up with project wise for the GB

Hey Pascal,
If I were you, I would save up and buy a MFH kit....that Japanese engineering and attention to detail is better than the Revival
kit's. The Bugatti kits are a rare bird that I love however, so I jumped at the chance to buy one.

Off sick today, nothing accomplished
Test fitting body, seat and front grill. I will shorten the engine crank as we get to the final buildup...better long than short they say


I was planning on covering the seat in black leather, but it is a rubbery material and my glues won't hold during testing.
I actually like the look and feel so will use seat as is.

This is a car that haunts me since my childhood. I built a Monogram or something like that and never forgot it.
For some reason I just love these open wheel racers of this era

I love working with copper, it is a beautiful material that is malleable, polishable and just gorgeous when finished.
Just not extremely strong, so you have to be careful with it.
Pondering doing the dashboard with a copper overlay as well...we shall see

So, do I cover the dash with copper, redo all the rivets and make new bezels for the dials

I am not really there, but I am painting the spark plug side of the engine block and wanted to see the wiring. Good reference photo here of what I am trying to replicate


This era of cars often had braided fabric leads usual white with a black, yellow or red striated pattern running through. So I go looking in the kit and find.....solid brass wire of very thin guage. Ok no worries, I will use tubing and make it ok. I take the metal tube that is the support harness for the wires and it freaking bends like a soggy noodle in my fingers!!!! It isn't even made the same as the diagram where the most distal wire comes out the end. Unreal. If I bend it back it will snap, called work hardening metal.

So now I will make an aluminum harness pipe with seven holes and one coming out the flipping end and a copper connector to mate with my copper fire wall

Considering the fight it's put up so far I'd wager it would burn your house down and that pipe would still be wonky. I bet it will look amazing once you're done, keep at it!

Working on some more parts:
The tubular wiring harness with 8 wires
the interior radiator grill...was shown on instructions but not supplied mesh in the kit
RHS cooling hose to the upper radiator
The kit parts are either not present or of a very basic nature so need to be upgraded



I left everything longer than needed so I can adjust at final assembly

Still enjoying watching you build this fantastic kit Scott...
You make it look easy though I'm guessing it's not.
Love all the extra detail and all the reworked brass and kit parts... Your making it shine dude!..

Someday I might actually have a completed part to show rather than bits and pieces.....it is a different way for me to build with all this test fitting, but it should pay off with easier re-assembly and lower frustration

Took about eight tries to silver solder the brass tube 'T', but I eventually got it. Fuel line is a metal thread


Setting up and soldered


Finally got it together, testing for size and alignment


Trimmed and test fitting


This took all my morning modelling time

Now I have to get it either soldered or bolted together...or a bit of both
And some feet, it needs some feet. I might display the car with the engine out

Thursday night soldering. Making the L bracket that attaches to rear engine mount.
Made a rivet out of the brass rod and pinned the two parts together with it, then soldered it all

That's not cool at all dude that's going to look awesome can't wait for the finished look nice work Scott

This is just too awesome, soldering skills are spot on for such scale. Any welding next service i'm bringing my car round to yours..
At least i'd get an " in person" look at some of your builds..

Doing this is relatively simple and need not be expensive. More complicated multipart soldering gets interesting.
I forgot to bring the parts out to work this morning, so sand blast clean up will have to be on weekend
I think blasting the brass will leave a cool textured surface and eliminate the black and copper colours that come with heat soldering...with less sanding

If you are doing it , then you know how easy and hard soldering can be all in the same breath
One time I am a star and everything goes together first try, others it is many tries
The little brass "T" for the fuel line was EIGHT tries before I got it correct

Hoping for some solder time tonight for the engine stand

Couple of hours of model time Sunday, otherwise busy with house and office.
Got the engine stand cross supports soldered and then the box pinned and relatively squared up, ready for soldering.


Sad that was my whole weekend of modelling
