Hiya All,


sorry for the long wait for this weekend, been working on some smaller projects in between, I'm a devil for burn outs so I like keep a few small projects on the go, but now its back to the ESV to show it some love

So the march of the tiny parts continues, the upper hull / hull roof is made up of many small fittings that add alot of small and very fine detail to the vehicle but a lot of care is needed while removing or cleaning this parts, and in my case the carpet monster is always hungry !

some tiny parts, are included for hatch detail include rubber stops to prevent damage and noise if the hatch slams against the hull

oh those fiddly bits lol they do make the kit a bit of challenge, and I have a habit of losing parts, i think its become a bit of a tradition with me now, so I am being extra careful not to lose any parts

Ahem, Yeah mate Stryker is coming on nicely, lots of lovely wee details there! Is there not a Stryker version that has a full on turret and 120 mm gun? If so, is there a kit of this do you know? I like the look of the Italian Centauro thing, bit like a Stryker but with a big ass turret and tank gun on it!

yes there is a Stryker with a 120mm gun on it called the MGS, AFV Club makes one



Norm, the reason for the sanding is to get rid of a nasty glue mark that leaked onto the engine cover, it will be cleaned further to smooth it down and take away scares from sanding, I'm really gonna invest in the Tamyia extra thin now, as my revell contacta is destroying my work with leaks

No... cuz it would be expensive to ship overseas ! Once you find a source in your country... on line or in store ! You will be wondering why you waited so long !

although... when I run out of Tamiya thin cement. My Go to Glue is TESTOR thin cement !
Clear glass White and purple label.

Which I then "pour in" my Tamiya bottle and I never know if I use either Testor or Tamiya ! until I toss out the bottle for a new one... I find the Testor bottle too narrow ! which has a tendency to tip over near my person ! Clumsy that way !

so... either or ! should do you fine !
Those needle dispenser... or CEMENT is... in my book ! Passé ! Capillary action "thin cements" are way way better !

its my opinion... don't jump at it until you talk it over with buddies.... best of luck my friend ! and I hope you find a good substitute for your glue problems...

Nice work

Shane look for Hr Hobby extra thin cement, more readily available over here than the Tamiya stuff. There are differences, but I love the Mr Hobby stuff, works really well. Sets quick enough that your not holding parts for ages, but also slow enough you can still make adjustments if needs be.

I've heard good things about it as well. I've never used it myself, but it's supposed to be similar to Testors thin cement. Testors is pretty good to.

Gav & Coen, thanks for the advice, I picked up some Revell Contacta Clear in my local hobby shop, it looks a little think, but my plan is use a cheap fine pointed brush instead of the brush to supplied is a little thick. It might work if not I'll hunt some thin glues online

Hiya all a little update on this build, just to show I'm still working on this model

got the wince and pulley systems onto the hull

however to prove what a genesis I am, I realized I made a mistake by adding the upper hull and roof plate, it would appear that the periscope go into the under side of the commanders position oh well

I've done that so many times Shane... Don't feel too bad buddy.
I've done it at least five different times on five different tanks. I end up having to fish them into position with L shaped tweezers. What a pain.

Cocktail stick/ toothpick and some bluetack should get them into position.

Coen & DC, it has driven my mental, but i think done a very "Irish" way of overcoming it lol

Sorry the lack of activity on this log of late, but not to worry my friends the build goes on still
Last I checked in it was with the issue over the commanders periscopes, which I'm happy I over came and got installed, then I cracked ahead with the other hull fittings, winch, light mounts, grilles and the drivers hatch down






now its on to the part I was looking forward to building the most, the Remote Weapons Station which is the most iconic feature of the Stryker, and it will be the first time I've built one for I'm pretty excited about it

Hiya All,

I know this build has been quite for a while, but I stoked the fire to get back into this build which has been of those builds, which seems to go on and on, but I do enjoy once I get in the mood to tackle it

So on to the build, was up very early this morning...is this a thing that happens once you hit 23 ?? lol So no better way to spend the dawn hours than some undisturbed hours on the bench
So worked on the most iconic structure on the Stryker family the Remote Weapons Station, AFV's offering of this assembly is very well detailed and with 46 parts for the station alone it is a model in its self. A little flash on present on some parts and required some careful cleanup apart from that it went together without a hitch







the kit gives the option of arming the RWS with either .5 Browning or MK.19 grenade launcher, for me there was only one choice, the badass looking MK.19 was a must



the launcher comes in three parts, and bored out the barrel with the point of a fresh hobby blade



compared to the MK.19's I've built from Trumpeter, Tamiya and Hobby Boss . AVF's barrel seems a little longer than the others, I'm not sure which one is the most accurate thought ??


Any way its a beautiful morning here in Galway so think I should get out and enjoy it

I am a firm believer that everything after 1945 is sci-fi and as such I stick with historical models but the sheer amount of detail just stunning. love your job, great clean build of what seems like super busy detailed assembly. Love it. Might even inspire me to venture in to the modern afv, maybe some day... Really looking forward to more of this. Well done

thanks Vilkas, I used to be the same sticking solely to world war 2 german armor and a little aircraft and ships, seeing modern subjects in the same sci-fi light but after seeing the strykers in some combat footage I liked the look of them. would recommend trying some modern as it makes a nice change and the detail on these things is unreal, but on a side note I've got two Panzer I's in the mail

going back to roots as they say

Amazing looking model, my first view of one and it's coming along great... there is an astonishing amount of detail i wasn't expecting so this could be a future purchase or just get a bus to Galway and nick one built
