Just a small update, I’ve nailed the nacelles to the wings, applied a little filler and (re)sprayed the aluminium
Interestingly the perfect plastic putty filler removed some of the aluminium paint!?

the bomb-bay doors were also masked





Next up will be attaching the wings and giving a gloss coat in preparation for the panel line wash.

I wanted to say a few words about the engineering of this kit. The way that the chaps at Tamiya have designed how this kit goes together is first class.
As an example have a look how the main wings fit to the fuselage.
There are a couple of alignment spars with a location tab in between.
These spars fit inside the wing and the location tab accepts either part B4 or B5, depending on left or right. Once B4 and B5 have been fitted the wings are held securely and tightly up against the fuselage.
Fantastic fit and a simple idea executed really well

It was this that encouraged me to paint the “wood effect” on the wings and fuselage separately, if I’d had to perform the masking and painting with the wings in place it would have been considerably more difficult.




So once the wings and rear stabilisers had been attached I gave the whole thing a couple of coats of Alclad Aqua Gloss
Once the gloss coat had fully cured I’ll gave the panel lines a drop or two of Tamiya’s panel line accent color - dark brown.






Then the excess panel line wash was cleaned off with cotton buds lightly soaked in odourless turps







Next will be a coat or two of matt varnish, while thats curing I’ll finish the canopy

So I needed to add the radio pilots seat, transmitter and receiver back into the cockpit.




When I fitted the camera bay door? it was a little snug, so I pressed a bit harder, and I heard a snap! Well it cracked along the middle, not much I can do about that so I’ll have to live with it!



Anyhow, not long left now, I’ve just got to add the odds’n’sods, bomb-bay doors, crew entrance, landing gear etc. and we’re done. Hopefully I’ll be back later today with the reveal photos

Well that didn’t take as long as I expected! The Tamiya kit is really good, any errors were mine, the engineering for the main wings fit to the fuselage is a dream.

I decided to “upgrade” the interior, mudguards and wheels, you could easily use the kit parts but I wanted to go for a little “extra” detail that these upgrades provide.
I used Quickboost resin seats and the Yahu instrument panel, I’ll be using both products wherever available in any future builds.

The “wood effect” was made using RB Productions Wood 2 airbrush stencil, I’m pleased with the finished result however, I would have liked a “lighter” finish, I’ll have to practice with different “wood” colours.
