That is some stunning work and beautiful builds. Both cars look a *ell of a lot better then any Die cast models.

Liked that you got to paint the brand on the tires, just adds a lot to the realistic look in the end.
I have to buy me a Tamiya kit in the future. Feels like they are thinking more of the whole picture then just making parts that should be glued together and painted.

How hard is it to apply those carbon decals for an grown up amateur?

Your photos also got me thinking that i maybe should not spend too much time on detailing the engine and gearbox. Because the car will be displayed with the covers on.

Yeah, i hear what your saying about the detail with the covers on but your build is a very special car with huge historical significance partly for the reasons that sadden us the most with F1. If it was me i would go as far as possible with the detailing and carbon decals, this car is worth the effort and money.

I will follow your suggestion John. I realized that its more important to at least try to detailing the engine then regret it later. Think i was a bit overwhelmed with all the details and the amount of work that needs to be done. I underestimated the kit when i first looked at the parts. Let's say you can get a decent shine with the True Metal. The aluminums are good, but the stuff does rub off in your hands.
I am not able to airbrush at the moment, so the true metal is a good brush paint

Too late Scott! Seen the Williams FW16 from MFH... Lets say that im happy that i saw the Fujimi kit first.

The Tamiya kits were things i could only dream about. Parents never bought one for me, or would of allowed me to spend that kind of money on a plastic model. Modelling was considered as a waste of money at our house. My parents never liked it and i never did a model together with my father. However i did a few models together with my younger brother later. From the age of 19-43 i did not do any models at all, which is a shame actually. But im back now!

As you can probably tell. I did the left side first, got too much paint and too little fade. Im happy with the right side, the heat damage blends better because i was more careful not to apply as much paint as on the left side. Will redo the exhaust on the left side tomorrow.

Real heat stains would be in a typical pattern location, but not perfectly symmetrical

Feels like a great kit, but it is in the hands of an amateur. But i will do my best to make it as nice as possible.

So today i needed a break from the engine. Started to assemble the break-discs.

These are going to hopefully look like carbon discs. I used the Ultimate primer. But it does not stick that well to metal or i did not let it cure long enough.
I then used the Tamiya weathering kit to dab the disc with silver.

Its a bit trial and error since i never done a serious F1 kit. However i think this is the right direction, just need to make sure that the primer don't peel off so easy, maybe give it a matt coat before applying the silver.

Hi patrik, yeah, the detailing sets are overwhelming at times the way i tackle them is by splitting the build into effectively several mini kits, usually just the engine then maybe chassis/cockpit and suspension/brakes.
You will quickly find out what works for you once you have a mental picture in your head of what is happening rather than just a countless pile of parts will make a difference.
your making good progress already and that exhaust staining looks superb ! Top job !!!

scott, when you get yourself sorted and set-up with the new place i would be up for that. From what i can see there are'nt that many F1 guys on here and a GB can only help. I have the tamiya 1/12 ferrari, williams and mclaren of the early 90's that i would love to get done, i've also been looking at the 'perfect parts' for those three.

I'm quite sure we wont have to twist patrik's arm too much so that would be at the very least 3 of us.

Totally agree!!! A race GB, where you can have F1, Indycars, LeMans Moto GP and specially, rally cars (and motos) is a brilliant idea!!! I'm in!!!!

Did continue on the brakes today. Added PE to the rear calipers and painted some PE for the discs.

Then i took a break from that and fixed the tires. That seam-line is hard to get rid of. The sanding made the tires look like they been run a lap or two, and that im happy with.

Yup! That is much better, a whole range of different motorsport vehicles in one Sig.

Dont know what i would build, only know that it will be from Tamiya.

Im retired, so i have all the time in the world to spend on building my kit. My updates are therefore a bit more frequent.

Only seen the Ferrari F40 by Pocher. Was not that impressed with the model considering the price. (I rather spend that kind of money on my other hobby). Maybe the Alfa´s are better and more detailed?

Well, i was very much into wristwatches. For a few years i only spent my money on collecting all kinds of manual and automatic watches. Today i have a few left, sold all the ones i really did not need. But i keep my eyes open if something of interest should surface.

I cant say that my collection was/is any special among the general watch collectors. You know just as well as me that one can always buy more expensive watches and flash them around. But most watch lovers buy what they like for themselves, and in a price range that suits them.

I still have a Casio G-Shock next to my Omega for example. I use the Casio almost everyday. So im not the type who would take a dump on someones collection because they don't own a Patek Philippe.

So please share what you have in your collection, its always nice to hear what fellow watch lovers have.

Thought i should give the rear brakes a bit of realism by adding a little brake dust. Don´t know if the difference can be seen on the photo.
Just took a paintbrush and went wild with the powder (pigment). The color is called chimney black. Then i blew gently away the powder that did not stick. I want this baby to look like it just been out qualifying and taken pole position.

Since i been doing the brakes, why not continue with the tires and the rims. Im skipping the priming and painting part. That all went well.
So on to adding the decals. Here is a close up shoot of the two decal sheets. The one on the left is the aftermarket one that has the Rothmans tobacco logos. The right one, comes with the kit. Notice that the numbers are a bit larger and that the "blue" is not Rothmans/williams blue.

Anyway back to the decaling of the wheels. Im sorry to say that, i messed up or its shitty decals. That ***king yellow ring thing did just not want to set on the inside or reach around completely on the outside. Its just snaked, twisted and made my day miserable. I using the decal solutions, Micro set and sol. Frak it! Im going to paint it yellow instead. Hopefully i will be able to remove the rubber without messing up the Good Year decals more than i already have.

From now on. If it can be painted instead of using a decal. Then that's what im going to do.

Patrik, i'm sure you can buy aftermarket stencil for painting the tyre, something similar the tamiya PE for the RB6 tyres.

Yeah, tyre decals are a no no ! If you can zoom in to the FW24's picture that i posted you will see them starting to peel off.

A big No No! My lack of decaling-skill really messed that wheel up. That is how one learns, from the mistakes. Thank you John for the kind words.

Template for the wheels, the Rothmans blue paint and the carbon decals are all ordered. All i can do now is wait.

Its the first time im building a car that needs decaling on the tires. Actually its my first time building a real kit of a car. (I dont count those small F1-cars from Heller i glued together many years ago).
