I did some testing tonight and the colours look spot on to me, it really is great stuff, sprays so smooth and dries fast especially with the Ultimate thinner





Btw Linden Hill in the US is the main supplier.

So, Ultimate is flammable? Does that mean that X20A is as well?
The reason I ask is if X20A is flammable, where you fellas get it with that restriction on shipping that you have in the UK?

Yes x20a is flammable as too is ultimate. Our Royal Mail postal service has the restrictions so other separate couriers need to be used for anything like that.

For akan paints hobbycolours.com in Greece would be your best bet.

Why doesn't the US allow the shipping of paints? I'm sure i know people that have ordered paint from the USA.

I have not idea. Its not just paint, there's a whole slew of things that they won't allow.
Something to do with things that go boom or something.
However... Squadron in Texas just sent me all those Vallejo paints in that set. Last I checked, Texas is in the US.

I wonder if it's just flammable paints that are restricted, as Vallejo are water based as too are akan

I can't order any kind of paint or thinner from anywhere in the US.
There websites block the order as soon as the address is IDed as international.
If it doesn't, I get an email from a sales person saying that US restrictions say no paint now go away or I will taunt you a second time.
I think that Squadron either doesn't care, doesn't know, or has some kind of deal going on.
I've ordered paint from them twice now without trouble, were no one else will ship it.
It's a head scratcher.

They will be for sale very so I believe along with a new line of products well worth it as it's excellent stuff as in the cleaner

So as most of you know emodels and snm stuff are now stocking the ultimate range of products.

They are all I'm using now really thinners wash and sanding wise.

Anyway I filmed part 4 of this today, didn't quite get as far as I wanted but still got a bit done

I started today by altering my spray booth, making a lot more usable and giving me the camera over might right shoulder which is better as I can see its screen better. Plus I've now got more room



Peter from emodels very kindly gave me a bottle of AK interactive grey primer to try as I was curious to how good it was, I used it for the first time on this today and have to say I'm very impressed, IMO it's a lot easier to spray than Vallejo, dries a lot faster as seems more hard wearing, I think I'll be getting a lot more of this stuff. I used the middle (unseen) section of the corsair fuselage as a test, spraying the thinner in normal light coats and then really thick to see how it holds up against masking tape. I even tried it thinned with ultimate thinner and it worked perfectly.

I attached all the various control levers and panels the fuselage walls as well as the rear canopy section, as well as to the rear landing gear bay, this was primed as above and the front section sprayed in the akan green as the cockpit was and the rear a mix of tamiya x16 pink, x21 flat base and xf9 hull red to make the salmon primer colour. There's a lot of a talk as to if this is correct I thought it good to spray it pink lol,, no I just followed the instructions







Once dry I brushed on some ultimate dark dirt wash.



This was allowed to dry and wiped of leaving a nice weathered finish just how I wanted



I just need to hand paint the sidewall controls and give it the thinned xf1 wash I can then glue the fuselage together

I really need to find a company that will sell that stuff in Canada.
Awesome. The thinners are what I really want to try. They seem to work with anything acrylic.
I've never seen anything do that, not even X20A will work with all of them.

My Tamiya Corsair was shipped from Hong Kong last week but I only wish I could build to the same standard as you do.

Would it be possible (maybe in a seperate thread) to take some pictures of your video camera setup? I just started filming myself recently and posted my my first in box review on ISM.

I don't have the luxury of having a modelling cave so I have to make do with what I have (see picture below). I think that having a video camera in front of me might help. Is it advisable to have both camers of the same brand/type?

Yes no problem I'll get some pics, I have two of the same camera, it think it helps as you know how they both work then without two different operating instuctions

Buying a second Panasonic X920 in two weeks is a bit heavy on the wallet

So I was thinking about getting a cheap(er) Full HD video camera in the near futur. In any case I want to make sure I can get some decent videos with my X920.

I was lucky I paid full price for my jvc everio about a year ago (think it was £200) I found the exact same model s/h on ebay only used a handful of times in mint boxed condition for £70.

Right so I've got the corsair to the stage its ready for filming the next part, sadly no filming today or tomorrow as with having work done at home (new kitchen) the electrician has had the power on and of today so no filming as my camera isn't equipped with night vision , but ill film part 5 on monday so it'll be sorted soon.

So off camera I've painted up all the side wall controls and boxes etc, I've also weathered the front and rear sections using thinned tamiya xf1. i then dry brushed everywhere adding colour detail where needed.



I had missed this part when i sprayed the salmon fuselage colour so had to mix a new pot to spray this, ill weather it as i did the the other parts before closing the fuselage.

I also got sprayed the rear side canopy window sections with the akan sea blue, its a real nice colour, which will be the main top camo colour to the f4u. As usual thinned with ultimate thinner it sprayed beautifully, i want lots more of this paint.

Fuselage halves together (temporally) just to show how well the halves fit together and its flawless, just some TET and mr surfacer and we should be in business. Ill put the fuselage together on camera so this has all come apart again for now.

They are decals that stick to the back of the instrument glass

That is a hell of a big fuselage Paul. That's the first time I've seen it all together with your hand in the shot. The 109 I built is a dinky compared to that thing.

I'm progressing on my build and have the cockpit done and am ready to apply the alcan. How did you stick the toothpicks, oops, cocktail sticks to the back of the cockpit and seat etc.

Also I seem to be following your build to closely. I got the same gluey fingerprint on the seat back LOL.

Lol yeah it needs a fingerprint or two ha ha.

The toothpicks, I'll either find a suitable hole on whatever I'm trying to paint or cut the end flush and use a dab of superglue to hold the toothpick as long as it's in a place that can't be seen it just snaps of cleanly when your done.

I thought you probably used the super glue, but for some reason I can't get it to stick, but I'll keep on trying. I'll try to post some pictures after I the cockpit alcad done.

Got the sticks to stick. I climbed into my wayback machine back to the stone age (late 1970's) when I built RC gliders. I put them together with superglue. I would dust the parts with baking soda, fit them and apply the glue. Instant bond. Worked the the cocktail stcks

So part 5 of this video build has been with emodels since Friday so it'll be uploaded soon I hope.

In the meantime here's some pics of the main fuselage together, awesome fitting kit that most of the parts hold themselves in without any glue.



Underneath glued, little bit of filler and some mr surfacer 1000, all sanded polished and test sprayed to check for seem lines, with no present

Crazy detailing on that cockpit

So the latest video is up on emodels you tube channel,so here's some pics of the build as I went though.

All the parts were primed the cylinder heads were primed in alclad gloss black base, the rest primed in ak grey primer.

The cylinder heads were then sprayed in alclad aluminium then the heads,were,masked off,and the centre sprayed in mr hobby light grey.

The push rod halfs were also painted in light grey and the rods hand painted in Vallejo gloss black with a small amount of Matt medium added. I then painted the tips in tamiya x11. The reduction gear box was also painted grey and the distributer hand painted black.





Using some 0.5 plusmodel lead wire I thought I would detail the engine a tad, I saw this on another corsair build and thought it looked good.



Using 0.5mm drill bit in my pin vise I drilled two holes in each head.



Wrapping the wire around a brush handle formed a spring type shape



This was then cut into half circle sizes



And then superglued in place





Reduction gear box bolt heads were picked out the tamiya x11



He whole lot given a wash of citadel sepia, I'll also add a black wash to dull the sepia down once I get it all together.



One washed and one unwashed, along with the exhaust and front bullhead which was spayed in alclad duraluminium.



Some Vallejo airbrush cleaner will get the excess wash of the centre and outer edges of the gearbox.

Ok so I've missed a few stages pic wise but here where its at now.

Its a damn big bird in 1/32 ill give it that.

So all the engine is all together along with all the cowlings. Ive kept it off for now as i don't want it damaged, it'll all come together just before priming.

Got the wing root section together as well as the wings themselves and parts of the control surfaces, all dry fitted and its spot on. Part 10 of the video build was finished today and I'm going to edit it right now, so hopefully it'll be on emodels channel at the end of the week.
