Hey Guys!

I got the first layer of glosscoat on today using X-22 and Mr Color SLT.

I have never done this before so I was a little curious about the process and what it looked like. I did it like this:

- Premixed approx 4:6 ratio of X-22 and SLT in a empty paintjar.
- Sprayed it on until I got a nice coat that wasn't too thick (it sprayed wet but didn't flood the surface)
- I misted on a thin coat of pure SLT until the surface became wet again.

So now I will leave it to cure overnight.

The gloss varnish have given the model that nice IJN dark green colour and the panelshading have reduced a bit so it looks more natural.

I'm really happy with the result

I will check it tomorrow and if everything looks OK I will do the decals.

Oh great Tommy, to me it seems the tuff part is over! Now decals and a wash and stuff! Its looking so nice.

Ok... decals on. Not many of them but I had a rough time making them conform properly over the raised panel lines

Dried off most of the wash, though... This airframe got 45 minutes flight-time in total before the war ended. The first successful maiden flight was on the day before the A-bomb was dropped on Hiroshima.

Okey, I have left the oilwash to dry up for a couple of days just to be on the safe side, before I put on the flat varnish.

But first I weather the inside of the landing gear doors with Tamiya Panel wash. I prefer to use Zippo lighter fuel to cleanup and soften the enamel wash, since it dries up in seconds.

After the flat coat I removed the canopy masks. Unfortunately my idea of using small dots of Maskol didn't work, the accuracy wasn't good enough. But I managed to fix it to look acceptable.

These are the antennas, which should be placed on the belly of the aircraft. After checking the pictures of the prototype I found that they where not fitted on the aircraft (yet I guess), so I will not use them.

Hopefully I can setup my photo-booth and take some photos within a couple of days. I'll keep you posted

Yeah, it looks like some strange insect just about to take a leap forward... But the shape of the fuselage and the back-swept wings is really beautiful - such a great design !

I must admit that this is not be best build I have done and I lost the mojo for awhile. But I decided to keep going and I was able to cover up most of my mistakes

The kit itself is not too bad, but the lack of details around the engine and wheelbays and the raised panellines might be a dealbreaker. It takes a lot of motivation to rescibe all those panel lines and detail up with scratchbuilt parts.

I would like to build this aircraft again, I will probably go for the Zoukei-Mura offering in 1/48 (or maybe 1/32....?)

My guess is that since the pictures where taken during it's maiden flight all systems may not have been ready. It's probably there in the kit because it's shown on the original drawings.

...I might have to buy som books get some insight in this

Oh such a cool peice of aircraft. Looking at the real plane and yours, you got it spot on! still amazes me. No errors Tommy, some issues with those silly glue bottles are always there and you helped me back from mine.

Yanno I remeber in the text or utube towards the end they had a tiny wheel leg at the back just a bit forawrd of the prop. I think they put that on when someone took off too fast. One that prevented steep take off damage I think.

If its not that big, make the Zoukei mora in 1/32! I bet you could do some amazing scratch stuff in the pit!!

I'll have to think about the 1/32 Shinden... I'm used to build in 1/72 so 1/32 scares the crap out of me...
