I hope it's not a requirement to change names each time we have a mishap otherwise I'm at least fifty behind already this year
haha! No not at all Neil! Just a bad mistake I made on this forum that these administrators were so helpful with. :wall: As far as this project is concerned, I may be back soon with a new update for this build! :jd:

Ahhh, what a pity !

I just read through the buildthread; such a cool subject and great ideas with LEDs and everything. The build was coming along really nice too :thumb2:

Hope you find something else in the stash that will keep mojo flowing again!

Thanks Tommy, not really that bad it was a very cheap kit in all respects, bought it many years ago tho, but 1st time to do this SIG being so new here and thats what hit me along with the LED layouts. Yours was as bad but a very nice model. I hope you can finish it with just a bit of sanding and stuff and yea so nice its on the bottom. That lightning is so cool. I do have a another plan and will get back on it in the next few days. We just started 3 weeks ago or so, so we still got the time. Thanks again.

I found another AMT 1999 Naboo kit!!! :th:

IM BACK IN BUSINESS!!
If you look for something hard enough...dont give up....you will find it!

I do love this naboo starfighter even though its not a hard kit to build, it just looks cool. Now, I will have back ups of the fuselage and many other parts... sweeet !!

Now I even have something to protect me from spilling glue all over my model as well .... again!! Yup, now Im proud to have finally figured out what to do with all this left over sprue I saved from some kits I started to build in my past! :jd:

Image

I call it the Doctor Sprue (anti-glue spiller) frame ... made with .... sprue!

After I again remove the chrome from top section of that top wing, building will begin, please wish me luck on my rebuild of the N1 Naboo Starfighter! :cheers2:

Ohh thats a great Idea Scott! Yea I will do that when im getting ready to paint this naboo with that color and add in the black. I may build another one tho for tet, set and sol and stuff and keep this one as my prototype (and it does work very well, you almost have to flip it severely to spill anything at all (I tried it with some water during my test)) so I may paint this new one on-the-fly while Im making these kits.
Image
A note tho that Im sure you pros know all to well, I glued this with that cheap thick testers tube like glue for maximum strength and waited a full day for curing. Its not going anywhere without a smash!

And as Lysus noted a few posts back about me returning to this build after a glue spill........

Great, just finished the de-chroming these wings again (and R2D2). As you may remember back a few weeks ago I lost this wing and R2 and some smaller components by spilling liquid glue all over the parts that were on the bench :bash: :wall: aaarrrggg :pistols:

Ok Im fine now... since I made my glue holder frame Image my blood pressure has returned to normal.

Now I went out to remove this new set of the same components (minus some other odds and ends mixed in with it, like a barris custom car kit) and by using bleach it was done very fast. So sad tho to see the top edge of the wing section with mold depths covering over the depressed panel lines. Hmmm the other set did not have that. Does any one know how to smooth that out and not screw everything up? I know what happens when you use alcad II or any chrome painting and buffing it up or whatever, its gonna show!

Image

Well not an issue now, but I was amazed at how fast that bleach took. The last run through with bleach took a few hours to de-chrome it. With this set, I actually saw it remove all of the naboo parts as I watched it. No I mean it took maybe 5 seconds and it completely vanished. The car parts (like the steering wheel) were still chrome and it did take a few hours. I guess this time AMT's plating service was very thin on this new naboo kit I would imagine. Nice to have R2 back as well.

Look at this comparison now (below) with the new wing on the left and the old glue stained one on the right! Man that glue (and at that time it was plastruck Bondene) that spilled all over the model hit it hard. It was instant.

Image

Image

Now, Look at the top view (shown below) and you can see the left one is fine with a slightly downward bow, but the glue clobbered one on the right actually started to LIFT its WING's at the edges by the blast of glue hitting it :wall: ... That is why R2's head was caving in on some older posts I showed. It was melting and bending the entire model even though I was quick to clean it.

Image

Oh well back to work to put in the wires again and to re-drill a bunch of holes and get it ready to light up the LEDS again. I am not really upset at what happened. Building these models is an never ending learning curve in all aspects of the hobby.

You can see at what level damage can occur so easily and what just a bunch of loose pieces of sprue from many kits I had and some thought, made me design something I am very proud of. My Doctor Sprue (anti-glue spiller) frame has made it easier to work with glue now. I wish I could sell this, but you all have sprue limbs all over the place, like I do as well and its FREE to do and only takes seconds! Make one today.. you could save a model.

(and your mojo) --- Thank you all for watching. :hi:

OK Guys, need a little help here if you can. Never really did any serious body work here, short of a sprue build and a quick paint job on anything Ive made. Im going to try my 1st ever nice chrome paint on this naboo and make it look like one of Mr lucas's models. (lol, yea right!) So look close at this de-chromed wing below.

Image

How do you smooth it out and keep the depressed grooves looking ok and not mess it up. If im gonna use Alclad II or testers airbrush metalizer, its gonna show big time! If you saw the chromed version before I de-chromed it (up above), you could really see it. It almost looks like a major car dent on my bench. :wtf: The depression is inward tho (which is nice) and not a bump. Hmmmm this is a tuff one.

Any Ideas would be appreciated.

Could always put in a bit of filler (putty), let it cure 24 hours or more, sand it smooth. You'll need to rescribe the lines, though, if the depression passes through them.

Thanks Lysus, yea never really did major body sanding and was not sure what to do. Just got a few coats on most models I ever did and slapped some paint on it. I do have an airbrush but only used it briefly (back in the day) so my paint skills are pretty weak. Yea the lines are gonna get clobbered in that area, so ill have to invest in a tamiya scribing tool or something.

When you hold this wing to the side it looks like a car dent from an automobile accident. When chrome trim paint hits it, its gonna look bent. Well I got to suck up at some time I guess and give it a try.

Thank you for your reply.

The lines look thick enough that a compass point might do fine to dig out the filler. Even a hobby knife. The scriber might be on the thin side from the looks of it.

Not a bad Idea. Yanno after your post I went and compared it to my F16N Hasagewa kit I have in my stash, same scale and I did notice just how thick the Naboo's lines were? So right Jason, so a compass like you said should do the trick. All I have is some old Squadron Green putty so that should work just fine (need to get some PPP like you guys are using tho) and quickly use that compass to edge it out. Jeez, such a simple kit here, its amazing me how silly this is getting too just look right, haha! Thx again.

Great recovery Tony - it really shows up how aggressive that TET is when you show those parts side by side.

You could make it look like battle damage to the wing so give it a burned look, just like a blaster shot it?

Yanoo both you guys with these replys may be giving me an Idea, I have never made a diorama before and really. with this new Naboo, and the parts from the glue damaged old one, like Nev says, it would look really cool to see this image.

Image

And maybe put the good Naboo on a shaft to the right, the bad Naboo titled with some black fumes, but on the ground as it shows in the movie (but with out the explosion) Hmmm Maybe so, but really, if I get to paint this model and it looks OK ill be happy with that!

Thanks for all your great comments guys and being so supportive. :D

Hi Guys,
I am continuing this build in the WIP section I just created. I will not be completing this for the Scifi SIG but will continue to work on it, and you can find that here -->. viewtopic.php?f=42&t=23548

Even though its still a week away, I have life stuff to do for the rest of the week and still have many parts of it to assemble (mostly LEDs) as well as painting. Thank you all for following my project and thank you Lysus for this SIG. You guys really helped me quite a bit to keep at it, and .....
