Thanks guys for following my mess :cheers2:

I got some black and grey painted
Image
Not sure why I saved the white until last  just kind of worked out that way :
I would usually spray the lightest colour first, but had the black out for the base and taped up the nose and it went from there.
Speaking of the nose, it is a bit flatter than the real shuttle, but I am turning a blind eye to it as I am NOT going to F with it
:cheers2: gents

I can just see that little beauty perched on top of the 747. It’s gonna look good me thinks.

As for painting the black first? Kind of like putting your trousers on before your underpants. Not a disaster but it can get a bit funky! :o

Ya, bit off. I am either touching up black runs with white or white runs with black...probably will even out in the end

I painted the blue line on the 747 tonight and am fighting hard to leave it alone and let it fully cure overnight,
but I want to take all the tape off and LOOK!!!!

Tomorrow night the red, will let this blue dry overnight before I tape over it.

Tight looking lines. Nice.

I’m a proper paranoid android when I mask. I rip the damn stuff off the second I finish painting. Can’t bear the thought of leaving it in case it lifts the paintwork. Had a couple of issues with Vallejo and been wary ever since.

Thanks guys, appreciate the unmasking mental support group...I am an addicted unmasker and finger print maker :wtf:

Not only did I unmask all of it last night, but then I pinstriped the red line

Our first meeting was fun, but now GET OFF MY BACK....dating vs marriage

Bare Metal Foil is next on the 747
White Ultimate paint next for the Shuttle

Cool progress buddy!

Any reason why you painted the blue line but taped the red one? Or have I misunderstood what you've done there?

I was measuring out the line width and had the correct red one, then tested it and liked the look so wound up just using the pinstripe tape instead as it saved masking and risk of destroying the blue paint line.
I would have pinstriped both if I had a blue pinstripe.

Long story short: lazy :D

My camera and lighting does not pick up the metal look well.
Big decision now is to foil the fuselage or paint it :
I covered an entire P-38 with aluminum foil once because I thought it would be fun. It was difficult on the fuselage for sure.

Ya it isn’t so bad.....done it a couple times too
I am about half way through...pic in a sec

The contrast is low with the grey plastic so it doesn’t show well, but the aluminum foil looks cool.
I just work within the panel lines overlap a bit and then trim along the panel line

Awesome, one of my favourites as well
Careful as the blades are sharp and will shatter if you torque them in the cut too much..ie straight lines best

Ok the NASA 747 is all foiled up.....have a few touch ups to do in paint, foil and pinstripes then add fillets when the wings go on to seal the fuselage/wing joint.

It may sound weird, but I would rather do an airplane fuselage in BMF than try it with shiny paint like Alclad or something
Canada is limiting what paints I can get in, so.....
We are all accustomed to what we have done before

Saturday morning’s worth of modelling

Image

I primed the Shuttle Ultimate white, then I guess call this a mid-shading of the panel lines and recesses areas with a Tamiya grey mix I sprayed for Star Wars builds...don’t ask what mix, I don’t know :
This is my first time ever shading at all so interesting to see how it comes out. Been watching you guys do all the mottling and such with greys and blacks, s9 thought I would give it a try. Hoping to get some subtle shades of white/grey with this.
The Ultimate white dries flat and gorgeous so it will be the final paint.

Vertical tail and stabilizers painted Ultimate grey and assembled

:cheers2: for looking :D

That's coming along really nicely though, and quick too - you're putting me to shame - I've only cut two parts off the sprue so far!

Thank you both gentlemen for following along :cheers2: :cheers2:
As you can see I am pushing this build along in an effort to finish before October ends so I may start build #2

Beautiful photo of Enterprise on her maiden flight....I believe that as she still has the large nose pitot tube and an aerodynamic cover over her rockets on the back end. Of note are the black accents on tail, wings etc that I am trying hard to get right. She looks very clean to me.
Image

I had a pretty good rainy Saturday of modelling and just kept at the Shuttle. So she got a second coat of white and then
heavily accented the panel lines with the Mig stuff. Now will have to do some touch ups and details around the cockpit glass.
Should NOT have followed the box art as they have the black on the nose wrong vs reality, so now have to decide what to do about that. The crew door is also wrong as it is not black. Damn :bash:

I don’t have the white as crisp and clean as the real thing looks....always seem to struggle with that on my builds; been aiming for those sharp lines and crips paintwork. One day :shifty:
