I tried to apply one of the side decals today. The old 1992 decals are toast. It didn't take much for them to crack and tear. I'll have to come up with an alternative like a generic, amateur racer scheme.

My solution for old decals is to draw new ones. I used Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. This works great on white cars because I don't need to worry about white ink.

I traced the red shapes and for most of the logos, I placed high quality vector files. I left the numbers as is.

Well, because I couldn't get decent print of my redrawn decals, I went a simpler route. I chose to do a freelance design depicting an SCCA autocrosser running in class X-Prepared; a pretty much "run what ya brung" class. All of the decals were inkjet printed except for the Champion and American Racing decals.

Later, I'll spray on a clear coat.

It took me many sheets to find the settings that worked. I wanted to do the red ones, but the rollers in the printer lifted the ink as the print came out of the printer.

When I finally got one done, then the color ran on me

The end is near. I installed the tail lights, the front grille, interior bucket, and the inner fender wells. I also blacked out the interior body shell.

I opted for the chrome grille, but it still needs a black wash.

There are only a few parts left to add. Namely the firewall and exhaust system along with some exterior trim pieces. Before the final reveal, I'll need to do some touch up painting.

I attached the chassis to the body. Fit was poor. Despite my general dislike of curbside kits, I may opt for that style of kit rather than deal with the fit shortcomings of full chassis/engine car kits.

The headers and exhausts were next. Alignment of these were also far from perfect.

Here is the fully assembled car. I have some touch ups and detail painting to do. I'll also do a little spot cleaning of the body. The final reveal won't be too far off.
