Here's a close-up of another mistake. Trying to add the matt black line of the "rubber screen trim" which is just a raised line moulded onto the fairing, the masking tape wasn't quite stuck down well enough and it leaked under. There's another one on the other side too. My attempts to correct my mistakes was only making it worse, so I've decided I'll have to live with it.

You can also see that the headlight rim which should be- and was- shiny is now dulled by my rough handling trying to force the damn thing into the fairing. It was very tight!

Anyways hopefully the next update will be of the finished bike=)

That's all coming together real nice! You say mistake on the fairing, but to me, that looks like a smudge of dirt that you usually get under those seals. Nice and authentic.

Looking forward to seeing it all come together.

Well, it's done. It's been fun, frustrating, educational, and therapeutic too- if you can call fighting the kit all the way, fighting my urges to give up, then rushing and making mistakes and having to redo things a lot fun and therapy. The kit was a pig, but I think I managed maybe a score draw...

I'm glad it's done, it's fought me most of the way, but I think it's a decent enough old school kit if you feel tempted. There are a lot of quirks in the design of the kit, lack of mounting points for things like the seat, sidepanels and tank, weird and unhelpful instructions that are flat out wrong in a couple of places. Don't expect modern Tamiya levels of quality, but if you want a challenge go for it=)


I have several more of these big old reissued Heller bike kits, but I think I'll be opening something a bit easier next time.


Hope I haven't bored you, but posting my travails gives me the will to carry on.
