How did the fertilizing go??

Trick photography Not real happy with the fuel tank area even though it will be hard to see with the bomb load.
one load today and one tomorrow and that job is finished then on to spraying chemicals until October. Never ending this time of year.

I used the kit decal seat belts as you can see they are old tech. I did punch out the seat belt adjustment holes...trying for a bit more detail. Although it looks like a wasted effort here. I did try putting a filter on them and the seat to tone it down a little. Not really working on the decals. The wing lights are shown still on here sprue....good old Tamiya clears used.


The canopy wasn't a good fit so I took some off it using this diamond plate to keep a level surface.


Still not good so removed some more


Using some Vallejo plastic putty and added a drop of Mr Hobby aqueous paint well mixed and a drop of X-20a tamiya thinner to go under the canopy gap. It looks messy and it dries quick so a bud with more thinner to clean as quick as I can without dragging it out again.

Not really needing a mention, but blocked a few holes with foam ready for priming.


Oh and almost forgot. I dropped a clear window, rolled back my chair and cracked it down the middle.
I cut out a piece of acetate and made some reinforcing and rivets to match.... yeah not really sure how they are going to look once painted. Maybe over scale. In for a penny in for a pound.

Hey Scott you being a aircraft man, whats the accepted style camo for my mossie. Is it sharp edges on the bottom half and slightly soft on the upper half or hard edges all over.

ps..thanks comment about the rivets. made from the sealing foil you get from some tins. That was the smallest punch I had and to me they still look big.

As far as I was aware, rubber mats were used to mask RAF camo patterns right up until the Hawker Hunter, giving a hard edge. That said, I've seen pictures of Mosquitoes that definitely look a bit softer-edged then other WW2 aircraft, so it perhaps was done freehand in a break from the norm. Scaled down I doubt you would notice the difference though.

I'm looking forward to seeing it with paint on - it's looking great!

Thanks EL although I'v stalled again . I'm having a rethink about the canopy and how I approach that. I want to put better rivets and framing on it. Yet it needs to show a interior colour inside the frame and camo on the outside , look realistic and choose the right glue to do it.
I had a go at do it yourself masking and that was less than stellar. So I'm hibernating and feeling depressed.....

One corny AUSSIE does long overdue update, I had to dig back a couple of pages, I was buried and swamped with the number of builds, multiple builds and finale reveals.

But here is my puny efforts so far.

I made some rivet strips for the canopy and no I wasn't copying Scott it was just a coincidence.

I used .01mm plastic and push a punch into one side to create a dent ...some went through...sigh I did make some from foil which would have looked better, but I couldn't work out what would be the right glue to get it to stick strongly. Some sort of spray on contact glue was what I was looking for.

This is where the canopy took a real beating putting the strips on....all thumbs with a big ball of cement attached.


Primer coat ...Ultimate product.... first time used and I like it.

As you can see the rivet detail is a bit Op

I really like your thinking on the river strips for the canopy

My ambition is way greater than my abilities

This is where I had a brain seizure and decided to use the 1/48 scale drawing included in the kit to try to match the camo pattern as depicted.



And make self adhesive masks



stick them on the plane..easy right...until the fuselage comes into play and the masks are too small. Because of the curvature and the drawing is flat right. So some adjusting had to be done and painting commenced.



I removed the masking tape. God I hate that stuff. It's way to0 tough , doesn't tear in a straight line and the bloody stuff rips your paint off !



That's where I'm up too, Now have to do a couple of repairs. That large lump of paint was removed and while trying to remove the tape I flattened the radiator flap. Did I say how I hate masking tape even after it was de-tacked 4 times !
I shall attempt to do a varnish coat by Friday night so as to apply the decals Saturday.

That's coming together really nicely mate - love the extra rivet detail you've added, the hard work is really starting to pay off

Ok Been a case of 2 steps forward and one step back it seems for this project.

I'v added the landing gear since the last update and patched the tearing paint. Which seems to be a primer failure. I didn't wash the kit, so it maybe down to me.



The intensely shiny bombs is the gloss coat...50-50 Tamiya XA-20 AND x-22. I probably should have given it one more coat, because as I was applying the decals so Mr hobby Mark Softner softened the paint and a tiny bit lifted as I was dabbing the excess ( left it too long ).

All the decals are on now



However the wing roundels have this weird stain, I have never had this happen before. If anyone can tell me how it happened or how to fix it would be much appreciated. I was using Mr hobby softener and setter. I was having a awful time getting them to settle properly and did leave some softner on the decals hoping time would help the settling process.



I still have to do some weathering ( not too much ) , spray a matt coat, remove the cockpit masks and string the radio mast.

Adding the radio mask I had to improvise a little as I knocked off the tail attachment point...as you do. So used a thin piece of brass tube threaded it in ( rigging stuff ). Secured with Ca and inserted it into the tail where I had a hole drilled. I did secure the other end first so that it pulled tight when inserting.



I also did a small amount of weathering, tyres, landing gear, exhaust soot and a Ultimate wash for the panel lines. Thought I would try something a bit different and used concrete as the color. It actually dries a pinky color, probably wrong thing number 132
