Bought some aftermarket decals for the B-4 variant. Decided to use the top scheme

Image
Image

So some mottled camouflage was required on the lower surface, first time attempting it do a bit of trial and error was involved

Image

The no step markings come as several decal parts, I always find that trying to get them right first time is a bit of a pain, so I’m going to paint them. Using do Tamiya tape, immasked up the areas to get painted.

Image

Then with larger tape, I masked the rest of the open area to make sure there was no overspray

Image

I’m using Tamiya flat red to paint them,

Image

a 50/50 mix with thiners then sprayed several thin coats

Image

Once I was happy with how it looked, I started to remove the tape carefully so not to damage the paintwork.

Image

Then the moment of truth, slowly removed the Tamiya tape to see how it was looking

Image

Very happy with the outcome of that,

Image

Well worth the effort once again

Image

And then gave the whole model several coit’s of Tamiya x22 clear ready for the decaling

Got the decals put on, they were good to put on, used microset and microsol but had a problem with two of the crosses which decided to split once they were on, not sure why it happened, so will need to do a bit of a repair.will give it all a coat of clear then will hopefully mask up the culprits then give them a spray of black and white and see what happens

It’s definitely a problem I could do without at this stage, but all is not lost, we shall overcome, I hope

Got the repair job done on the damaged decals, forgot to take pictures of the process, first I masked the areas to get repaired, using Tamiyas flat white and black, I sprayed the white area first and then the black then gave it a coat of x22 clear.
There’s still a couple of small parts to be fixed, but I’m hoping the weathering will hide them.

Image

Now the part that can make or break a model, the part that scares me the most, putting on an enamel was for the panel lines. If this goes wrong, it could be a new paint job, no time for that, so only one thing for it, do it right :eeek:

Using the AK winter panel liner, I brushed a coat on the upper surface first

Image
Image

Then gave the underside a coat. Then left it to dry for about 20 minuets or so.

Image

I then started the process of wiping it off with some kitchen roll and cotton buds.
Some of the areas weren’t as glossy as they should’ve been, which made the removing of the wash a bit more difficult, but I’m still happy with the outcome.

ImageImage

Next up was to put some exhaust stains on the nacelles and wings. I used thinned down Tamiya flat black sprayed carefully where I thought it looked good.
Also got the undercarriage and bomb bay doors fitted, then removed the masks from the windows.

Image
Image

Just a couple of more things to do then should have it finished in time for Friday :th:

When it came to fitting the props, they both look off centre, not sure if I fitted the engines in wrong or there’s a design fault, so what I decided to do was cut of the attaching points on the engines and just glued the propellers to the nacelles.

I am now calling this finished and will get the final reveal pictures up before today’s deadline.
It’s been an enjoyable build and would recommend this and the other variants of this kit
