Hello peeps

Thanks for kind comments, and much appreciated interest in my Lingerie snap :wtf:
Well, this morning woke up feeling rougher than a Badgers rear end.
Man Flu :violin: :violin: :violin: :violin: :violin: :violin:
Head banging, and throat as ragged as glass.
Probably not the best frame of mind for modelling. Especially as the next stages are described as really hard :bash: :bash:
Its really thin plastic fittings and PE mesh that goes to make up the Rear Turret Basket. It didn't go well when two end parts of the basket snapped : At least Takom provided a piece of plastic to form the upright PE part.
I'll keep it short in description, as it really didn't go well?
Image
The plastic basket in its infancy
Image
Image
Image
Image
One Smoke / Grenade Launcher added.
Image
Everything strapped together to allow it to dry in position.
Image
And with Commanders Turret in dry fit.
Image
All I can say is, the Turret Basket will be filled with lots of equipment.
I even bought the Tamiya 1/35 Modern Equipment to supplement the Meng Equipment.
Hopefully all the kit stowed in the Basket will obscure the mistakes
Off to lie down in a dark place.
All the next sections of builds are RA now.
Peace and love
DW

:thumb2: :thumb2: Once the paint starts to go on and the bin gets filled it will hide a lot of mistakes, you could also make a tarp out of the thin sticky backed lead sheet you can get from fly fishing shops [ Its used to put weight onto hand tied sinking flys for fishing] :thumb2:

Thank you Hawkmoon, much appreciated. Your right about mistake covering ups. Only you, me and the whole of ISM will know that I dropped a clanger. Thank you for handy hint. Guess where I'm off to at Lunch?

Despite a plastic former provided, and my attempt at bending this bit of PE (See image with arrow screaming out my mistake  ), I think, on hindsight, I should have annealed this part to get the PE to bend to curve around the Plastic Basket part.
Its gonna have to go down as damage, and some parts like Hawkmoon said, in the way of Tarp or additional equipment, will hide a multiple of mistakes.
I mean, only me and you lot in ISM will know about the dropped clanger :bash:

Looking good so far though, despite the big white arrow, and build is really progressing. Nice stuff.

Couple more Pay-Day purchases for M60A1. I mentioned that I don't think these bottles, they come with labels (maybe down to Copyright laws, and such, same as not being able to emboss Continental on side walls of tyres : ).
They should give some detail to top of turret, and with crew already bought for this, the already busy turret is gonna get even busier
Whatever your up to, enjoy and stay safe.

Whilst waiting for Mrs DW to return from work, I spent a nice hour tucked up in my M/C and checked on works so far with M60A1.
All looks okay :th:
The Tamiya Masking Tape has held the 10 mating points of the Turret Basket nice and true whilst the TET has gone off.
The misshapen PE Turret Basket cage is still as was, i.e. Misshapen.
Whilst armed with a craft knife  I thought I'd have a butchers at the Tamiya 1/35 US Modern Equipment as shown in post above.
What a joy to behold. Crisp, no flash and packed full of goodies on duplicate sprues.
In all the reference pictures of these vehicles in Desert Storm the one thing you see hanging off the tanks is fold-able camp beds. Well, this box has four of these, so plenty to go around.
Image
The rendering on these pieces is really superb and the kit comes with decals for Ammo Boxes.
Image
Also some really nice MRE Boxes for which are made of a nice crisp paper (which I'm a little dubious will hold their shape once formed).
Image
Again some nicely formed Alice Packs.
Image
and, I haven't a clue why : these are specific to Modern US Equipment, two dogs. They look Terrier in breed, but nice touch Tamiya
Image
You even get a set of Binos and "Fritz" helmets.
A really nice accessory kit Modern Vehicles.

Great looking packs and the decals for ammo is gold, but the dogs as as been mentioned are definitely from another era.
The cartons won;'t loose there shape if you place a small piece of wood inside optional gluing the carton to the wood and you can get a nice sharp fold line if you run the knife lightly around the folds on the inside.

This post is really just for Digger
You wanted RA, here is some RA :eeek:
Image
The Sharpie and Clothes peg is nothing to do with the build of RA, except, the Sharpie is used to tick off parts glued on the Instruction booklet.
These pieces are the L/H (as you look down barrel) two Reactive Armour plates. The R/H plate is a rear shot showing all the holding brackets (Mounting Brackets). Cutting these off sprue with Xuron is hold your breath time as I expect a "Ping" as they shoot off into atmosphere, or "Snap", broken :bash:
The L/H R/A shows the Optional parts mounted on the front of the plates, which are (and I can't find out from Internet recce, what the intention of these parts are for specifically), either for removing the plates, i.e. holding handles, but more probably for attaching Camo. I went with them as I think the already busy Turret, with its RA, could do with some more "thingies" attached  . Just think of the weathering and washes on these parts though :thumb1:
I then started on the Gun Barrel, which comprised of a one piece Slide Mould Barrel and two parts for the Gas Evacuator. You can see the parts of the M60A1 in background coming together nicely.
Image
Lovely fit of the two part Gas Evacuator with just a tiny, tiny smidgen of filler required under the two parts. I left it clamped with a Clothes Peg O/N, and we'll see how it looks over the weekend.
Just a small post for Friday.
NB: www.emodels.co.uk James Backham the Customer Hero, has been superb. I finished in Man-Cave last night, and suddenly it dawned on me, that an order I had made through emodels at the end of August, had not arrived. I really wracked my brains on where it had gone? I had ordered Β£20 worth of the new Tamiya Lacquer Paints to try, I know that they never arrived, as such a new bit of kit would not have escaped my greedy mitts :nena: . A quick email to www.emodels.co.uk and all sorted. For some reason, it had been returned to emodels as not delivered. James Backham has sorted it and they are back on the way to me. Love great customer support.
Hope you all have a superb weekend,
Love and Peace

Hello chaps and chapess

More plastic madness from Chez Walloper
So, were on the Gun Barrel sections
Having glued the Gas Exchanger (2 Part), and found the fit although good, did have a small gap under the barrell. a quick wipe of filler and its gone.
Next comes the three part Canvas Gun Mantlet. Beautifully fitted together with no gaps
Image
It beautifully simple and the canvas texture is spot on.
Image
A couple of parts added to Mantlet and along comes the Gun Barrel for a perfect fit.
Image
Next, the lower Turret is fitted to the top part of the turret. Bit of Revell Contact to give a little time to glue along edges, and bring the two parts together.
Bang on
Not a gap to see here.
The final part of this build for tonight, was a super thin square piece of PE to be fitted around the Gun aperture.
Super thin PE, and due to the construction, this took a fair bit of time to get square and true. Jarvis Extra Thick C/A applied in sections along edge and then with tweezers and a sharpened cocktail stick, it finally went on well
Image
So, lots of Revel Contacta glue in the Gun Orifice (Ooooh! Matron), and Canvas Gun Mantlet and Gun Barrel attached
There you have it :bow::
Image
That is not a finished Turret though.
So much more R/A to be fitted..
:cheers2:

Good morning fellow stretcher of the sprue :hi:

Well, a short post on the Takom M60A1 this morning.
My normal Sunday morning routine, of multiple cups of coffee, and a catch up with The Archers (sad maybe, but have listened on and off for years, used to hear the intro, many years ago and it signified Mum doing washing after Dinner, strange how these tunes stick in the noggin).
So radio on, and back to the build.
The next sections of the build, and I had a surreptitious quick flick through instruction book on whats needed, and we have two pages left, and its all Reactive Armour  .
So, added two sections of R/A to L/H of turret (L/H looking down barrel).
Image
Although, in a previous section, when you come to Turret, there is an awful lot of drilling holes for various parts, and many holes for location points for the R/A holding brackets, some of theses have not matched perfectly  . Despite meticulously following instructions, the R/A holding brackets lugs have not matched perfectly to previous drilled holes:bash:
So offering up a section of R?A to turret, and then have had to mark with a sharp pencil, where the R/A holding brackets lugs sit on the Turret side, then drill appropriate holes. Its then a case of strapping tight with amounts of Tamiya Masking Tape. it seems to have worked.
This is another section of R/A showing again the underside holding brackets.
Image
Right-Hand of Turret showing a considerable piece of R/A, which has the option again of, I'm going to call them Camo Net holders.
Image
I also have attached to Right-hand Smoke Grenade launchers. Plus a few pieces of R/A to either side of Gun Barrel.
Image
So, here above is the last sections of Instruction book, all devoted to R/A.
Soon, very soon, we'll be applying paint. i'm toying with the idea of using Lacquer Paints for the first time as well :eeek:
Whatever your up to, have a great Sunday all.
:cheers2:

Got back from work a little earlier than normal.
Mrs DW preparing tea, my favourite of Lamb steaks, new pots, peas and lashings of Minty Gravy
Gave a few minutes to head off to Man-Cave for an hour of modelling.
Removed Tamiya Masking Tape from Sunday's R/A fix and all looked good.
Four more turret pieces of R/A to fix and that's the lot with Turret.
So, here its is.
Image
Image
Bit of masking tape on L/H to hold a large piece of R/A steady whilst glue goes off.
Singular piece of R/A above R/H Smoke Discharger, and a piece above Canva Gun Mantlet.
Thats all the R/A added now.
Thanks for looking in, now off to gobble down Dinner :nena:

Hi all

Not much modelling today as my Right Hand, that I have had a lot of pain with for the last three months, was diagnosed on Thursday, as fractured twice at wrist. It happened 3 months ago, when in frustration and a certain amount of anger, I punched a brick wall. Stupid now, but at the time.....well meh!
I had a puncture in my front passenger tyre yesterday, and had a right struggle to get the damn thing off, that has aggravated the hell out of the wrist.
So having been to National Tyres for 08:30 to get puncture sorted, I couldn't really commit myself to much manual work as planned.
I did though have an hour in Man-Cave, mainly cleaning away some mahoosive cobwebs, adding some nice Whiskey Glasses and a bottle of Jura to bending shelves, and assembling Ice Boxes from the 1/35 Meng Equipment for Modern Vehicles.
Image
Love assembling boxes, something exceptionally pleasing about the construction process.
So, I have constructed three Ice Boxes and cleaned up a few Water Cans and Liquid receptacles.
I also received these, to help with the eyes on the 1/35 Miniart US Modern Tank Crew. Luckily, two have visors covering eyes.
Image
More pictures and hopefully a bit more work tomorrow.
have a great evening,
DW

What Ho Chaps and Chapess

Hope you have had an ace weekend whatever you have been up to.
Sunday, as those based in UK will know, has been an absolute wash out. The rain was so heavy this morning, I could see it diluting my Expresso in its cup, as I opened up Man-Cave for my normal modelling and The Archers session.
So, the M60A1 is pretty much built
The only three sections I had not done from the Instructions, was fitting the Hawser Shackles to the front Glacis, as these are snap fit, and prone to being lost to the Carpet Gobble Monster, I tend to leave these off. As I'm close to adding primer, I thought I would attach them.
The other two sections involved two tiny pieces of PE being bent three times and attached to Engine Deck for Towing Hawsers to be secured in transit. Having said that, from reference photos, I'm going to add my Hawsers to front of vehicle.
Image
Talking of Towing Hawsers, I used the kit supplied wire and added the Hawser ends and set aside for painting.
This, and the tracks, is all parts added and model is complete save for paint
The wheels have been mounted on halved Cocktail Sticks, which are dipped in a drop of PVA, and stuck into some Computer Packing Foam recycled from work.
Image
The rest of my time in M/C was spent cleaning up seam lines on multiple pieces of crew equipment. The accessories were then mounted on Cocktail Sticks with either PVA or C/A and again stuck in the foam ready for primer and painting.

Its a lot of kit that is gonna be festooned from Turret, whether I use it all, no idea :
The Grey plastic items are kit supplied and the Tan are either Meng or Tamiya.

Even the one of the Dogs was assembled

Then a start was made on the Miniart US Tank Crew.

Grey plastic parts, that are significantly softer in density than the Takom plastic. I'm probably only going to use three figures.
usual practice with figure building, for me. do one figure at a time, so as not to complicate things. remove seam lines with Rat-Tail files and Ultimate sanders. bit of scrapping and sanding and the first figure looks pretty good. I tend to mount the head separate for painting. Holes bored in neck and foot, to allow Cocktail Stick to be glued with C/A, to hold whilst painting and allow to mount to dry.
This is Figure D so far. Head mounted and legs and trunk glued. Arms will need to be positioned carefully as he will have hands resting on Cupola rim. The Armoured Crew Helmet is also separate and will need affixing to a stick for painting.

All goes well, and we really are rapidly heading towards laying down a bit of Primer soon.
Have a great evening all,
DW

Despite having lots of paints, lol, still had to buy this set this morning from trusty Amazon.
Vallejo Model Air Set - US Modern Desert Colors
Should suffice with maybe a spot of white in the Sand colour to tone it down for all the Desert Sun.
It gives Sergey (Our Kitten / Slinky Monster), another box to play with (See Furry Friends thread... :th: )

Whatever your up to out there, be safe and enjoy.

It's a cat! Of course it's plotting!

You've made great progress on this since I last had a proper look in DW - love the way Mrs Walloper is providing moral support (Is it supposed to look like that? psml!)

Looking forward to seeing it under paint and all that stowage :eeek: :th:

Morning all

Well. pretty rubbish day at work, followed by an even more appalling drive home.
So instead of sitting on sofa waiting for Mrs DW to come home, I went in pouring rain to M/C and cut another figure from sprues (Figure E).
Gonna stick with three figures from the Miniart set, A, D & E.
The plastic is very odd, soft on the outside and crumbly below surface. Not sure if this is my kit or Miniart in general.
Well, figure E, cleaned up. Scraped off Mould lines and and given a further clean with a Ultimate Thinnie, then defined detail just a tad with an Xacto blade along pockets and seams.
The trunk, and legs were then assembled before drilling holes in necks to accept a cocktail stick with appropriate label made out of Tamiya Masking tape.
I'll hope fully get some pictures this evening of progress. Due to inclement weather in UK. I tend to defer to my chosen choice of Primer, as Halfords own brand (Grey). I use this from a Rattle can straight to piece. I also tend to spray (even with Spray Booth linked to outside Vent), outside in ambient conditions. I find the light better and it sure ventilates the pieces :th:
I realised last night :eeek: , I have not even take the Tracks out of there supplied storage bag. Need to get these out tonight. They are a new one to me. One piece Track, and affixed with a piece of wire much like a Fruil Track.
Anyhoo, lots of images tonight and we'll see what Primer I can throw down, I can also have a gander at the Tracks.
Take good care folks,
DW

Cheers Neil, much appreciated. Mrs DW does her favourite eye roll  but she is supportive of this hobby and thats all I, or we, need in life.
I'm sort of itching now, to get some colour on, but I want to do this one justice.
Its took a fair bit of building, and deserves a great paint job. I'm going for the all over Sand colour, so I'm thinking Black Primer, white fading in blocks and squares, then couple of very light Sand coats over that.
I'm not rushing this one, Lots of Dry time between coats, and nice even light coats of colour.
I'm obviously talking a great fight, but now need to put on the Gloves on (Surgical to keep my hands soft and lady like :wtf: )
Have a great one,
DW

Looks like it's coming along really well. Lots of updates and ready for some paint now.

And indeed, cats are always plotting something nefarious.

Long, long drive home, filled with traffic jams, accidents and temporary Traffic Lights (wow, the stocks in these Temporary Traffic Light companies must be extraordinarily high).
So had received this kit via Amazon to my place of work yesterday.
Image
So, in my journey, I had been planning great strides forwards.
So like an eager boy at Christmas, I got in from work, grabbed a coffee, and squirrelled myself away in Man-Cave to unwrap box, only to find this....
Image
Five bottles instead of six :jd: :jd: :jd: :jd: :jd:
The middle Vallejo colour, was missing :eeek: . Looked in box, in car (just in case), and all places in between, but no sign of it.
Lots of swearing ensued with some very big, grown up words no lady should hear
So, sent a review to Amazon, one star, and processed for whole set (well not a set is it with a bottle missing), to be sent back.
With next breath, ordered the Meng US Modern AFV Paint set from www.emodels.com
This, though put me in mind to step forward with the M60A1 and add some primer.
In this case, I didn't use my stand to of Ultimate Primer, or even my favourite Rattle Can of Halfords Grey Primer, but Mr Finishing Surfacer 1500 in black. Never used before and sat on shelf for a while. Split the plastice wrapping off and shook for a good five minutes.
Image
As this is quite noxious, and gives off some heavy fumes, this for a change was done in the sunshine  of an evening in the Midlands, UK, weather. Clear and still with no rain.
So, all the wheels and Accessories were sprayed first, followed by the Turret, Hull and Commanders Turret.
Image
Prior to this, I did paint the Clear Periscopes with Vallejo Liquid Mask. Except, my mistake :bash: , I forgot to mask the Loaders Periscope Lense. Bugger!
Image
This though, was not a disaster. I realised, that the Loaders Hatch when sprayed with Primer was closed. As I have a figure to sit in Loaders hatch, I flipped the Hatch open, Masked the Periscope, and re-sprayed.
Image

Nice one.
Image
The primer, went on beautifully, and has covered the surfaces magnificently.
Image
This picture, does show the difference between wet and dry well.
I have left it that way now, and did no more to model, except left to dry in a nice warm, Man-Cave. Even not spraying in Man-Cave, and leaving the parts sprayed in the room, left quite a heady mix of fumes. Mr Surfacer, sure knows how to give a huge headache to users :bash: .
Tonight, Thursday, I shall have a look and see what the outcome is.
When I looked at all surfaces, the Mr Surfacer had left a wonderful cover.
Have a wonderful day,
DW
