I did some detailed painting on the exposed internals. A mix of Mr. Metal colors and a generous wash with Tamiya black Panel Liner.



Next up will be a satin clear coat, I think. I Regret removing the masking from the cockpit area now.

Hopefully, the satin finish will stop the red from appearing fluorescent in the pictures.

I started on the weathering.

I used a sponge with the same Insignia White color to simulate wear on the stripes. Steel was used on the white parts and then in some areas of the red where I had already put down white. I hate it!


I resprayed some of the red. The pictures look like a total red stripe, but in person, they have some variations from the previous white. I have no idea how I want to proceed.


I used a natural sea sponge torn off in small bits. I then took off as much of the paint as I could. It either did nothing or made smudges.

Ouch - that definitely didn't go to plan

Could you try misting some of the white over the top of the red to make it look worn down a little?

Different subject I know but that's what I did with the white markings on this (misted olive drab) to try and make them look worn/faded

After re-spraying the stripes, I made a test part with some plasti-card and tried a few different techniques. I landed on using a Deerfoot Stippler brush with a lot of the paint dried off. Not as dry as you would for dry brushing, just not very wet. I then started outside the stripe and stippled toward the center. When that was done a few random spots in the middle of the stripe. It isn't great, but I like it much better than the previous try.

Keep at it. On the home stretch and it's looking good. Just got to work that weathering out.

I have given the battle damage a try. Not the best I’ve seen, but I’ll take it.

I like the blast of air on the pigment that works well and the wear seen on the wings.

Thanks for the comments. I have to admit that it was pretty scary doing this to a nearly finished model. All that I have left is the canopy and final assembly.
