This new bottle of primer is perfect. I'll chalk the other one up to it being a bad batch.



The cannon is working out. I do think I'll create a different barrel, as I'm not a big fan of the current one.

Here is the current state of the canon after all the reprints. These are all hollowed parts now.

Hard to see the detail of the barrel assembly, but the wheels and carriage look excellent.

The decals work now. Though, it's of rather low quality and somewhat translucent. The extra film really shows up too. So it'd be okay for a something without clear decal parts.

Therefore, I'll be using the decals provided by Games Workshop with the tank model. Thankfully, a lot of 40k players don't really do decals it seems. Soooo, the secondary market for them is really cheap and widely available.

Sprayed the clear coat on the tank. I'll decal tomorrow if I'm not too tired after work. Also, got a few 3d printed bits cured. They'll get a separate reply in the next few days.

In other news, I've been watching the Drachinifel YouTube channel. It's fantastic. Highly recommend if you have an interest in naval history.

That tank looks great - did you need to thin the citadel paint down at all or was it straight out of the bottle?

I used the Citadel Air paints. They market it as being mixed for airbrush. As it was I didn't thin it at all and it sprayed okay. If I were to do it again I'd add about 10-20% thinner for a more even spray pattern. Though with everything a single color I didn't go through the hassle of thinning it.

Not a ton of decals for this guy. I sort of wish they had a more defined decal locations. Guess you don't need nation markings when you're fighting aliens! Thence I went with a more traditional decal locations.

The decals are very thin. Not a lot of working time, but they should all lay down nicely when dry. You don't need a strong setting solution with these guys.

They'll get a clear coat tomorrow, then it will be on to weathering. These are meant to be handled during gameplay, so it will end up with a hearty top coat when finished.

The 3d printing is doing much better. The Grand Battery is looking like an actual canon. I did replace the barrel with one I designed. It's a bit longer and has rifling on the interior. For comparison, the old barrel is sitting next to my pen.

And now for something completely different:

The significant other and I have started playing Magic: The Gathering a bit. Mainly just as a new card game to play when we're chilling together. We got a few starter decks for a grand investment of about $18. Wife enjoys opening the booster packs, so I will purchase a couple every now and then and we'll open them together (each pack is generally $3-5 USD depending on what set it's from.) Then use those cards to make a constructed deck and play against each other. Nothing crazy and we both believe the game to be somewhat silly, and some people take it wayyyy too seriously. This is like turbo nerd territory.

The cards are rated in rarity on a 4 level scale. Commons, Uncommons, Rares and Mythics in ascending order. Every pack has 1 rare or mythic. Some packs have more; but, they cost significantly more for the pack. Additionally, all cards have alternate art and/or come in a foil variety. Foils are just a shiny holographic effect on the card.

Fast forward to last night. I knew wife may have had a frustrating day at work, so I purchased a couple packs for us to open together. Wife also enjoys looking up how much the cards are worth. Generally a "rare" or "mythic" card is about $0.25 - $3.

I opened up a pack and pulled out a foil monkey dude.

This guy to be exact.



Wife looked up the card value and started to freak out a bit. Turns out this card sells for $140 on eBay. Jackpot!

Long story short, we're going to sell the card and treat ourselves to a very nice dinner out in town. We both acknowledged that this is basically gambling for monetary gain, and will continue to play at a reasonable level realizing this was a very fortunate bit of luck.

I have no idea why someone would pay that much for a piece of cardboard. But then again, I did spend $400 on a plastic model of the Millennium Falcon with some assembly required.

Been out of town, so not a lot of modelling getting done. However, after a nice weekend in the mountains I came across an EF-111A on the side of the road. Crazy!

ive always been really interested in 40k lore and what not.

Never played the tabletop nor built any of the kits/figures. Looks really darn cool tho

I missed a couple of updates here - that gun with the big barrel looks superb.

Funny enough me & Mrs Tomcat dabble with Magic from time to time as well - nothing serious but we enjoy it.

There are a couple of pretty good adaptations for Xbox/Playstation which really helped with learning both the fundamentals & some of the quirks of playing the game.
