I agree, its a bit of a worry re Border. You would hope a new tool would be accurate, not just in terms of fit but in terms of accuracy to the real thing. I took one look at their Mk V Spit and thought, NOPE, rear fuselage is wrong, its looks like something from Trumpeter 25 years ago. Unforgivable.

We've had a bit of a downer on Border recently due to failings in their new tool releases but the He 111 looks like something else. Hopefully the kit lives up to the hype.

Agree. I am seriously considering a stash sale as I have kits that I am beginning to think I may never build. There's a load of new releases I fancy but I can justify the £££

I'm not convinced, like the FW, Spitfire and 109 they appear to be up/down scaled Trumpeter kits. It could be the same for this with extras, I think I'll wait.

I must say it does look a great kit and the cost would put it cheaper than other 1/32 offerings of bombers but like most things that are cheaper, its cheaper for a reason.

Best option is probably to wait for a decent build review. Inbox reviews are worthless as a real test so I hope someone builds it soon. I just like the idea of being able to see all that detail in the nose section due to all the glazing. Its what put me off the Lancaster when it came out. You don't get to see most of the great detail once its built. There was also the minor matters of the price and the space needed.

Some great new releases here. Aircraft in 1/48, 1/32 and 1/35.

Das Werk have a Me 262 coming in 1/32 while Border Models has one in 1/35. It never rains......

I made a comment a little while back that if you set yourself up as a reviewer of kits on Youtube then you should be able to go a little bit further than what the instructions look like and and how good the plastic looks.

Surely a kit review should include an opinion on accuracy. I'm not talking 'Adam Mann' levels of expertise like he shows with the Tiger 1 but at least have something to say about whether the plastic is accurate and whether the final model will be. Is that too much to ask?

I've just watched an unboxing review of the new 1/35 He 111 from Border and despite being quite detailed, there's not one mention about accuracy.

I normally don't watch this guy's stuff but since it was about a kit I'm interested in I thought I would give it a go. I should have stayed away.

What do you think? What do you want from a review? If you think I'm being unreasonable, please feel free to say so. I'm feeling feisty so bring it on!

Many on there nowadays use AI, to plagiarize serious work, a lot of WW2 or history in general, motorcycling, cars, DIY you name it is this utter crap. Some of it is just dam right dangerous. It's click bait, more clicks/views better still comments more they earn, it's just money.

I would advise you look for the long standing established channels. Avoid the latest influx of reviewers with prolific reviews over a short time.

So far they have done Normandy and and Holland and are currently doing the battle of the bulge in the Ardennes. They go to the actual sites and talk through the battles in terms of tactics, units and the human experience.

Yes I have I've not started watching their latest as yet, they are a fine example of how it should be done. Proper research, in-depth information, actually visit and go round the sites etc. if you haven't already check this guy out TJ3 History, all based on talking/interviewing real veterans. If they're no longer with us in depth research of combat reports and debriefs. He uses top draw CGI to explain/relive their missions.

Another really in depth guy is WWII us bombers. He really goes into the weeds about tech on aircraft, weapon systems and their applications and performance, what worked/didn't and why. All backed up using real combat reports and later investigations, he shows the real stuff and absolutely no AI on either channel. There is a lot of really good stuff you've just got to learn how to widdle out to crap

And I agree on what Stokesy says about reviews being genuine and should be helpful to other modellers instead of regurgitated instructions.
If only they could all take Terry Ashley's example and run with it. Unfortunately he no longer does reviews and all the old ones were taken down by him, a true loss of a resource.

What we need is an unbiased modelers modeler with no skin in the game who just builds and reviews the finished item, covering mold quality, instructions, accuracy, fit and finish, etc.

I believe that every manufacturer looks at the kit as a business venture. What I means is all of the various design, mold engineering, manufacturing, quality, packaging, shipping, marketing, etc. Have to be factored in to each release. When it is all said and done, the cost of those components cannot exceed the value of the kit. And the value of the kit is determined in part, by its desire or ability to sell. Going full circle, the desire of the kit is directly connected to the mold quality, instructions, accuracy, fit and finish, etc.

All the more reason not to jump in and pre order or buy as soon as released. Better to wait until some info is circulating and has gone beyond the ability of these companies to control the narrative.
With the exception being those companies who always release good quality kits, those you could take a chance on.

I think you have to look at Tamiya as the example for their business process. They release kits that mostly have mass appeal, they're well engineered and well researched. They're not the cheapest but they're also far from being the most expensive. In recent times they have released kits that are superb in terms of engineering. Their new releases in 1/32 and 1/48 are market leading kits and have been massive commercial successes.

Back to reviews, I put much more trust in reviewers that actually BUILD the kits. Andy from Andy's HHQ is one of these. Yes, he's a retailer and he's promoting his kits and his store but you get to watch the kit being built along with comments about things to be wary of along the way. He also doesn't waffle and his reviews are nicely paced.

At the end of the day, no one is forcing us to part with our hard earned cash, we would just like to be well informed first

The fit and finish, the instructions, the engineering, quality control etc etc….
I have some great looking kit boxes with absolute shite plastic inside them

That being said, I do like what Davis is doing here, exposing us to new kits available.

Probably applies to the newer kits more than the older ones as undoubtedly someone would have researched and alerted us to inaccuracies in older kits, but your right it's fit first.

Sorry there's not been much of anything new for a while. My usual sources seem to have dried up for now but hopefully with April just around the corner they will be emerging from winter slumber with some new stuff.

I saw Arma Hobby have a 1/72 Me 262 out. New releases from them in 1/72 are usually a precursor for a release in 1/48 so here's hoping - and the same for their recently released 1/72 P51.

While not a lot atm you did miss this one from mdesign in 1/32 and all the way from Bulgaria

Did anyone see the video from the Nuremburg Toy and Model Fair concerning the new Revell of Germany kits (and re-releases)? One that surprised me was an updated re-release of the C-17A Globemaster in 1:144 with a detailed interior. There's also the re-release of the B-52 with X15 in 1:72. A 1:48 Euro-Fighter with a WW2 invasion stripe paint and decal set, also one in 1:32 scale. 1:32 Hawker Hunter looks nice too. 1:72 Junkers JU290A Seeadler, and a very nice looking 1:72 Handley Page Halifax B Mk III. Re-Release 1:32 Heinkel HE-111 with updated parts, decals, etc.

For car's they have 2 1:20 F1 kits, one McLaren and another Red Bull. There's also a 75th aniversary re-release of the 1:16 Porsche 356 Coupe.

For the firefighter people, they have a 1:24 GLFL Simba 8X8 with Frankfurt Airport markings.

How about a 1:87 Orient Express steam locomotive with tender and two cars.

1:400 Queen Mary Luxury Liner, and a 1:87 New York Fire Fighter Boat with over 260 parts. Last is a re-release of the 1:388 Great Eastern, first steam ship.



I'm not completely sure of quality of the kits, but I have had some very nice Revell of Germany kits, and some Revell of the USA (older kits) that were terrible.

Lots of interesting stuff. How about that Platinum edition of the Titanic? Looked stunning. And another big scale Me 262, that makes 3 due out this year (Das Werk and Border). The Hunter looked good too, a lot more cockpit detail than Revell are known for.

I didn't see it in the video but I really like the idea of the Orient Express kit. I've loved the movies so I would really take a look at that kit.

There seems to be a real renaissance in 1/32 WWII subjects with Kotare, Das Werk, DBMK and Airscale (super expensive) among the manufacturers bringing new releases to the market.

I think inter war would be a very tough sell as there's no real context or event to hang a release on. Its certainly not something I would go for but I can only speak for myself.

Cold war gives you all the context you need but once you get out of the 1950s with aircraft like the F86, the early Migs and the early British jets you start running up against size issues. The Phantom was as long as a B17 so maybe the manufacturers are shy of what a kit like that might cost. We know Tamiya released a stable of big jets but that was 30 years ago and there's been nothing since. Also, with modern manufacturing, Tamiya's 1/48 kits have more detail than those kits so perhaps they feel there's no need for them?

I know a guy who ONLY builds Phantoms so there is demand out there. How many modelers are ex-services and have a direct affinity with these jets? Surely there's a market there?

If a manufacturer just relies on the demand from ex-services, who were ex air force, from aircraft from 30yrs ago and who are modellers the numbers might not stack up for long.

That's fair. I'm just trying to think where the interest comes from. The jet age is such a long period versus say WWII, its hard to see where the concentration points are.

One thing I would say is I have joined a local modeler group and we meet on Tuesday afternoons at the group admin's house for build sessions. That's fair. I'm just trying to think where the interest comes from. The jet age is such a long period versus say WWII, its hard to see where the concentration points are.

One thing I would say is I have joined a local modeler group and we meet on Tuesday afternoons at the group admin's house for build sessions. Yep, can't beat variety. I would encourage anyone to post new kit info on this thread. Who knows, something you post could be someone else's dream kit!

There are quite a few possibilities with this one given the number of them used for catering etc.

That Moskva is definitely interesting!!! Does one build it afloat? Or at the bottom of the Black Sea? The latter option would make one hell of a diorama.....
