Congratulations both, I must admit that I was starting to have some thoughts myself about if you were on a retainer for Ultimate, but guess I know now :)

From what I have seen with the reviews I am very impressed with the amount of positive reviews and think it is a good way to raise awareness of your products.

The next product range could be a paint and varnish range :) (Lee/Paul if you need product testers, give me a shout, I'll see if I can fit it into my hectic schedule :) )

Sorry, i must be thick. I had no inclining that Lee and Paul were involved in Ultimate. It's very brave of them to tell us all of their involvement. For me ISM is a very friendly, helpful site. The amount that Lee and Paul do is astounding, they provide a great resource for modellers and i would recommend anyone joining. It must take up so much of their time and as has already been said a lot of money to keep going, as well as all the prize draws which must cost a lot as well. So although i usually tell people by personal message how much they have done to help i would like to thank Lee and Paul and anyone else involved in ISM for doing a great job and sacrificing so much for us.
I would love to get some of the products and may ask the wife to get me some for Christmas or my birthday in January. Knowing it's Lee and Paul's company has no bearing on me getting them as all the reviews i've seen or read have been very positive and honest. Getting some of the thinner might help with the Lifecolour paints i have as i can't get them to work right.
So, sorry for waffling on. i'm just pleased we have people like Lee and Paul in this hobby. I'm sure we've all met unfriendly people, it's nice to have a great site to visit :th:
Please keep up the good work.
Regards.

Congrats to you both. I'd never have the courage to run my own business and admire the balls of folk who do.

I've just placed a small order for some Ultimate stuff, just to see what all the fuss is about. I hope to be back for more ;-)

Congratulations to you both :D , Paul and Lee and thankyou for being honest and telling us, after all you didnt have to say anything. I personaly love this forum and the friendly attitude in here and your announcement changes nothing of my view of the forum at all. I wish you both all the best in your new business venture and hope I will get to try some of the products over here in Canada.

Thankyou to you both Paul and Lee for all the hard work and time you put into this forum, I usually pop in here everyday and the facebook page, and I always leave with a smile and a little more knowledge gained each time.

:cheers2: guys

Johni044 wrote:Ok here's how I see it.

Lee and Paul tell us the two ventures were set up independently and I have no reason to disbelieve them.

To be honest even if they weren't it would not cause me any issues unless the forum was being used to push sub standard products, if this was the case obviously it wouldn't work for long as the members would become disillusioned.

From what I've seen and read the Ultimate range has received good independent reviews and as long as the forum is run in it's current enthusiast based format and all modelling products are given fair reviews then long may it continue.

Wishing you both the best with the new venture. After all if it results in modellers getting good products at reasonable prices, why shouldn't you both benefit from it.

Cheers
John
I totally agree. I ordered the flexi file because of sorry can't remember if it was lee or Paul's great review. It does as they said if did. I then watch the review on the Ultimate sticks . Saw that I could use both so ordered them as well. And again the do just as the review said. So I don't see a problem. I just thank the guys for their honest reviews.

Just one question is there any chance of a smaller version for those hard to reach areas or are waiting for the products you have out to make a return.

Also if you need a tester on any new products feel free to get in touch. Lol

Good Luck to the both of you in this new venture and keep up the good work.

Regards
Martin :cheers2:

Hey Paul and Lee

First of all I think that you both created a really great scale modelling forum with ISM. It seems that for the moment the members on ISM are a nice and friendly bunch of people willing to help others.

As far as Ultimate is concerned I’m not really surprised that it is your “baby”. All indications were and are there if we look at the video’s during which the products were reviewed. Both of you are reaching a cult status on ISM, but I for one would have appreciated knowing in advance that when you are reviewing the products that you are both “judge and jury”. I know that this doesn’t change the products and the only way to value the quality is to test them. Having bought many of your products I will do this in the near future. I can already say that I’ve tested the airbrush cleaner and that is very good.

In any case, keep up the good work and I wish you all the best and success with Ultimate.

Cheers,
Bennet

Guys - BRAVO! 'Bout time somebody did something like this and, frankly, that it's you two makes it all the better. B@st@rds. Wish I'd thought of it! Hehehe. And to echo Ian's sentiments, I'm kind bummed that I haven't included them in a video. As of yet, I've only used the cleaner and thinner and wanted to have some experience with the washes and sticks first - you caught me at the end of two builds that didn't requite their use, but as soon as I do, I will. Also, the etch picker upperer is a flippin' GODSEND! I haven't used it in anger yet, but have tried picking up teensy bits of brass and I can't wait to try it on some scratch or etch for real. Btw, the cleaner and thinner looks like it will be my go-to fluids of choice! Well done lads. Proud o' ye! :)

I recently bought the Thinner, Airbrush Cleaner and mixed pack of Sanding sticks from SnM Models. This was following the recommendations seen on the forum, otherwise I simply wouldn't have known about them.
I've used them all now and I'm very happy with the results, and before this thread I'd already decided that I'd buy them in future.
Now that the link between the Forum owners and the Ultimate brand has been revealed. It doesn't alter my view that the products have now become my preferred choice. If anything I'd want to support them all the more.

A good product sells itself if it works well and is affordable. I think that's what we have here, and I'm happy for Lee and Paul if Ultimate proves to be a successful venture for them. I believe that their intent is to get the best materials out on the market based on their experience and enthusiasm for the hobby.

I also think it's good that members are free to express any doubts without fear of prejudice.

The best test its to try the products and make up your mind based on the experience. If you like them, then like any other product that improves your approach to modelling, both technically and financially, you'll be glad that someone told you about it.

Just to make something clear, I was not knocking Lee or Paul for their entrepreneurial spark or criticising the quality of the Ultimate products. I haven't used or tried them so I am in no position to judge.

My concern was, are we about to see ISM take a more commercial direction. That was my point. Having contributed to this forum almost daily since day one I think it was a fair enough concern and question to raise.

In answer to your question - No mate, not in the slightest. As we've said before ISM & Ultimate are two totally different entities. Yes I'm sure there will be a little crossover as this is a modelling forum and we sell modelling products, but that's as far as it'll ever get. There is no way we would want to ruin this great community sniffer.... :D

Well I for one bless them and all who sail in them.

If the forum is to retain is current feeling of inclusiveness (Ive looked at forums for years but this is the first one on which I have felt that I might have something to contribute), the test for the boys will be to see how they react to posts that might be critical of their products or which suggest that particular modelling problems might be better met by using a rival's products or which suggest cheaper or home-brew alternatives. I am sure that if they get the balance right in relation to this thorny question, all will be well.

What next from Ultimate, I wonder?

Good luck to you both

So I've just caught up on this thread and damn spent see it coming lol. I was lucky to have samples sent to try and love the thinners and cleaner. Yet to really get to grips and try everything else fully.

All I can say is well done guys being able to turn something you are both so passionate about into a business is alot of people's dream.

And I will be continuing to be part of ism as its a great place to be.

Keep it up :th:

Congratulations to both of you on the successful delivery of your second child together! I hope ISM and Ultimate are both happy and healthy and enjoy long, successful lives!

Seriously, though... You guys set up ISM as there was a gap in the market for a fun and friendly, non-judgemental, non-rivet-counting forum where you could speak your mind like the grown ups we all pretend to be. Now you've introduced products that we all want and crave at a sensible prices for the betterment of the hobby at large and offered us on ISM a discount and sponsored GBs with free products (wish I had a Panzer II in the stash!) I, for one, do not understand some of the comments on here - you should be applauded and praised for what you've done. I understand one reason for silence, if you'd been open from the outset everyone on here would be offering to be product testers and reviewers or just asking for freebies and it would've been hard for you guys to say no without upsetting people.

So who's with me in giving Lee & Paul the three cheers that they deserve? I'll start:

Lee and Paul,

I am new to the site, got here via Russ and Coen's YouTube channels. When I started modeling seriously 25 years ago, we had nothing but a few mags and word of mouth. Since getting back into the hobby six months ago after a very long dry spell, it was great to find so many resources for free, online.

Such as the you tubers and web sites like yours.

Thanks so much, it made getting back in so easy and with all the new techniques, forums, video and products, it has been wonderful re entering the hobby.

I don't know anything about your personal products or even where to find links within your website here, but I think everyone has the right to pursue a business.

You don't owe me any explanation and I think you must have some large brass balls to do and say what you have done and said. There will always be people that freak out, over little Brad Pitt.

Good luck and hope you do well and thanks for all the time and effort you put into making my hobby more enjoyable.

Could have not said it better myself,

No one is freaking out mate or knocking Lee and Paul for trying to make a few quid, fair play to them.

But the secrecy and announcement caused a bit of a WTF? moment and raised a few questions.

If you had been on ISM from day one then you would know that the ethos of this community has been that it is inclusive, non confrontational and strictly no sales or profit for anyone off the back of it. Except the prize sponsors of course. Thats what has made ISM tick so far and thats why people came here at the start. They knew they wouldn't be subjected to abuse, ridicule or have their personal information used for commercial purposes or be bombarded with sales pitches as happens elsewhere. This is just a place for a bunch of blokes to talk about models.

A small commercial element has come in over the last month and with it a natural concern over the possible change in ethos and direction of ISM and how that will affect the future of the community here. Some of us have been on here almost every day for the last 6 months and its been cool. So why would I not be concerned that something I have become a part of might be starting to change to a more commercial site?

Lee and Paul have assured us that they will keep their business and ISM seperate so I will trust them and accept their word on that.

At least I give a Brad Pitt about what happens to ISM mate, I dont think thats being negative or dissing Lee and Paul. But I'm not saying hip hip hooray because its totally gay.

Enjoy Telford tomorrow if your going guys. :th:

Hip hip hooray! If being gay is wrong, I don't want to be right! Gay still means happy, right?

Can we put this to bed now?
