Thank you!!! This is the first proper time that I do hard edge camo with paintbrushes as oppose to spray gun (inspiration 100% the outstanding Marder II that somebody is doing on this forum ) and yes I am hoping that painting will push the thickness of the zimeritt to the back stage

Hello everyone,

the Elefant is going slowly but surely I think in another couple of days the detail painting will be done and the on to weathering. It will be really interesting to apply washes to zimeritt, or should I go easy on it since I made it a bit thick?

I'd start light and work your way to dark
Vilkas. That way you can stop when you think it looks right.

Thanks, Coen, I always avoided doing hard edge camo, and would always go for airbrush soft edge. But this build includes good few firsts for me.
I think I will do just that regarding the weathering, you're wright.

after seeing this im torn between getting this now or be more like Lee and try and keep my money in my wallet, this is really a terrific build and paint job plus a great job on the zim... it's one of those builds that looks stunning and you just want to be part of it.

I really have to say that the further it goes the more I like this kit and how it is turning out, and not the least how much I've learned already while doing it. And for the most part the assembly was without any issues.

Thank you Shane, Tom! Tom with regards to money, well I have scored a real bargain on ebay: Dragon Jagdtiger, this Elefant and trumpeter KV-2 German modified version plus shipping $44 all together !!! And if you get a chance to your hand on this kit I would totally recommend it, very nice kit indeed, despite it being a bit old.

My Irish is rubbish so its hello and goodbye it's a shame its not used much more, a great bargain is spot on Vilius and you have done such a smashing job on them the Elephant is 74 euro in Dublin.
i think i will keep a watch on Ebay thank you.

Looking very good indeed!

The finished camo really looks the part and to be honest, I like the zimeritt the way it is, it kind of brings extra character and roughness to this massive vehicle, after all it is the Elefant!

Like the very wise Coen has said I would start light with the washes on the zimeritt, maybe an extremely diluted wash with a lighter tone, then go a little further and darken it if you feel like it.

Keep going my friend, I am looking forward to see how the weathering will bring this behemoth to life! Soldier on!

Hello everyone
It has been a while so decided to post just a quick update, the work on the Elefant is proceeding just a little slower than it was at the start Everybody always blame the carpet monster, but in this case I am 100% convinced my dog ate the decals...although have no evidence, but cats said so , the cat would never lie So numbers are from spares box and historical accuracy goes out the window, I will attempt to hand paint the German crosses on the sides, it would be mission impossible on that zimeritt anyway .

Initial overall wash applied fairly diluted burnt umber, then slightly darker just for the lower part. Also started chipping process. On the sides I tried to portray the very light horizontal scratches from going in and out of hiding in the forested areas, or similar activities because it is a tall vehicle.

superb work the zimmer looks quality and as coen said the wash really looks sharp the last photo looks like it really is made out of steel the texture of the paint

Well just so that I don't have to say I've been working on this for years will post a quick glance at the finished model. All in all loved the model itself and was bragging about so much that my wife got me a Ferdinand for Christmas!!! After a matt layer at the end it kind of really lost the metal feel sort of, maybe I will satin finish in the future. Not sure if the hooks for towing cable are o.k. that's what I had in my spares box, I think from king tiger. Cheeky of Dragon not to include a towing cable, but if that is the worst thing to complain about, all is good.

The weathering looks really good and balanced, congratulations on a great model!

The tow cable hooks I believe are russian from a T34 if I'm not mistaken, but they look good, I love the stowage on the front of the model too, in fact, all the little details are what make the whole model a great piece for me.

I also have a Ferdinand on my stash.... Maybe a buddy build?

Thank you Carlos! I really appreciate such kind comments coming from the grandmaster himself! Yes you are right now that I think hooks are definitely T-34, but I was aiming for eastern front anyway...so it was intentional (no it wasn't)

Wow what a finish, can't say enough good things about the build, love the weathering the photographs even down to the helmet on the front and the differing camo on the lower and upper hull, i would love to see this mounted on a diorama, i think i read the Germans lost half of them at Kursk on the first day.

Thank you Tom, I really enjoyed building it. And yes Ferdinands didn't really make as impressive entry as expected in Kursk, even though the damage inflicted was out of proportion to small numbers involved. They have me thinks the best kill ratio all together as tank destroyers.
