I know the feeling about these darned stripes!! Glad to see it avoided being wanged

Great build log and had me laughing along the way and i now realise im not the only one it happens too, i really like the attention to detail along with the amount of hours you have put in sofar and now im looking forward to seeing more updates and good luck with the undercarriage parts...im not much of a birdman but i do enjoy the builds.

Wow stunning work buddy she is going to be a real eye catcher when she has finished.

I can't seem to catch a break with my painting contractors! I've finally gotten them to do what I wanted in the first place and use tape to mask off the stripes. Unfortunately they may have gone too far on the upper wing. I only hope they can get it to look ok when they (ever) finish!

So, aside from the upper wings I'm moving along with the yellow stripes. I should get the black done in a day or 2. Here is what I'm up to in the painting. For some reason that yellow is a pain to paint; both Model Master and Tamiya!

Still plugging away at the stripes. Who knew they would be such a pain. And why didn't you warn me if you did know?

Also, why didn't you poke me to let me know I shifted the yellow stripes forward and skipped a black? If you look carefully (as I didn't) you will see where I missed a stripe and now they are off register toward the front. Oh well, just more yellow painting to go. Also, I made the black stripes a bit too wide so I have to adjust that as well. I miss olive drab...

Getting so much masking correct is no easy task,

I see striped people...

I can hear your mind "buzzing" with this dilemma!

I've had a little problem. The tape got the better of me. It's a good thing I wear glasses or my eyes might be gone.



Otherwise the masking is just about done! Still have a lot to do (hope I make it!) but the worst is over.



This really is a terrible paint job. I don't know if I can rescue it or not but I'll make the effort. At this point the sledge hammer option is less likely (although there are 5 of them here at work, just in case) but it really won't make the top shelf!

Still plugging away. Working on some touch up (as best as I can) on the yellow. I have painted the tail surfaces, the engines, and the olive drab where the markings go on the nose. I even put on the nose wheel!











The decals are still setting in these shots, that's why they look a bit off.




Now, all I have to do is the rest of the glass, the main wheels, the rest of the decals, the props, and weather it solid mud to hide my bad painting!

That is going to look awesome dude! You are really brave attempting that scheme man, and you have pulled it of brilliantly! Can't wait to see it finished.

Seconded. Great to see someone take on a kit that is long in the tooth (you are a braver modeller than me). It's fought you at every step but you're nearly there.

Decals are done, the wheels are on, the main canopy is on, and I've started a bit of weathering.

The olive drab under the markings is on the real plane but I over did mine a bit. The stripes were just painted around the markings.


The "Lemon Drop" in place!




The white circle and blue "A" are indicated in the instructions, but didn't come with the decal set! I masked the circle and used the "A" from "USAF" on an unused decal sheet that was about the right size.


Now with a bit of wash!






Just the propellers, main gear doors, top and rear guns, and nose, top and rear canopies to attach! I think...

It's been an arduous journey for you D.B, but, she's starting to come together very nicely! Can't wait to see her completed now!

Last gasp before Friday! The props are done and the fragile bits are attached! Windows are done as well, but not done well, if you know what I mean. I don't know how some of you mask so well!
