I had no idea applying cement would tone down the silvering, it certainly looked like it worked. Something else new I have learned today, thanks for showing us the results.

My pleasure Mark, although eionfinnigan gets a high five for letting us into the secret . I would say that eion's right when he says not to fiddle with the decal when you apply the cement, they do wrinkle a bit. Best not to have silvering in the first place.... if you can....

I cant take all the credit, I picked up the trick from a certian Mr.Flory, It works great on the decals from Academy kits which can be almost as think a cow hide

Here is my tip
First let it dry, then carefully cut the decal in the panel lines (I Always do that) with a NEW blade.
With cut, I mean just drag the blade no pushing down. And DONT start outside in, as in beside decal and the across it.
Always "lay" the blade inside the decal and drag out, in both directions. Otherwise it migh tare apart...and we dont want that.
Then pick at the worst areas with the tip of the blade or needle to "puncture it".
(I Always do that around caps, rivet lines etc.)
Then apply coat after coat of Sol.
If its still not conformed (after 6-8 coats of Sol), Tamiya X20A!!!
Can be used Always if one wants to, fantastic decalling solution, one coat and its like painted.
Decals vary in thickness and quality so Always test on left over decal or in a not so prominent Place first.
X20A is like Sol on steroids! So thin decals can hurt a bit...
Not as agressive as Thin cement though! Take caution there! Yours survived since Airfix decals are strong buggers.
I have experimented with extra thin, can be used in places that will not conform. It actually melts the decal in Place.
To just coat the whole decal in the stage Your in...Woohaa, takes some guts mate!!!

Sorry lads about no updates for a while, I been really struggling with the wing tips and tailplanes. I wanted to fade the yellow right down but for some reason just can't get it right. I have a growing feeling that my ambition outstrips my ability. So, to stave off insanity, I've decided to shelve that idea 'till I can actually do it....

So it's now time for a bit of a wash, Ultimate Dark Dirt is my dirty dirt of choice on this occasion.

Actually I've got a little bit to share with you...
Wash wiped off with a damp piece of paper. Meant to say how the wash was applied, I decanted some of the wash into a plastic shot glass and then simply brushed the stuff on. I did the undersides as well just to see if would make any difference...



You can't really see here but a wash on underside has made no difference....



Tell you what, lets start removing all that masking..



Rear turret mask removed, works well. Obviously with simple canopy's you can make your own masks with Tamiya tape but on something like the greenhouse of a Lanc canopy a pre-cut mask is essential, the one is used was made by Edaurd..

Ok lads in the home straight...
I've done quite a bit of chipping as I guess ground crew would be more interested in re-arming, re-fueling and servicing than touching up paint. Whether aircraft were actually as rough as mine I don't know. Citidel Runefang Steel is my shade of choice on a skinny brush. I've also used an another Citidel paint for the sooting Nuln Oil proberly isn't quite right as it dries to a glossy finish, ah well. A touch of grey to simulate heat bleaching and....



Up next.. RF antenna. It's good stuff this EZ Line Fine, I got mine from ModelsRGo. I just dabbed a little dab of superglue on where the line is going, carefully place and a little squirt of kicker....



It says on the tin " will not craze most plastics" it dosn't say "will **** up your canopy on your first ISM GB"...!!!!!



******* hell... Still have a look at what using a mask set does for you.. Tight lines...
I think gentlemen that will be me done.
So in conclusion a really good kit with almost no filling required, relatively good detail although it seems the Airfix offering has the edge. I've no idea how accurate the kit is or for that matter my interpretation, I'll let somebody else worry about that.
So ends my first ever GB in fact it will be the first kit I've had judged Thanx to everyone who contributed to my thread and helped me along...
