Global Scale Modeller

Well....................we all have times like these.
This was my first morning in Man-Cave after a very, very, very long week at work. As my previous ramblings denoted I had the house to myself, and the hopes of a lovely session of dawdling and experimenting with said model.
Bear in mind though, that this is only the fourth time of using my H&S AB.
Still learning still listening.
So back to this morning.
Managed to clean out the two buggers of Rabbits in rain, and for those who have ever tried moving Rabbits with attitude in rain with various saw-dusts and hay you'll understand .
So coffee in mug, and kit ready.
First a Vallejo Surface Primer Grey coat on 30mm Grenade launcher.
Excellent coverage and no problems.
Then same again on Gasoline Jerry-Cans,...again no probs.
Next I tossed with the decision of Satin or Gloss and went with Satin XtraCrylix Varnish.
Thinned as per instructions but not with Xtras Thinner but the Ultimate
Not bad coverage and everything fine.
I cleaned out AB and 15 minutes elapsed and another coat was sprayed.
Then disaster..
I could see around the cup a bit of residue of varnish.
My thoughts were "ooh if that's drying that fast, one hopes we don't get a bit of that in the nozzle".
Feck me that's exactly what happened
Air still flowing but no varnish.
So, stripped it all down and cleaned. Flushed through and reassembled.
Nope not happening.
Three times stripped down (good practice). Still no contents of cup when trigger pulled.
Right then, Sonic cleaner comes out for first go ever with AB.
I left it in for the full time which was five minutes with just warm water and a tiny drop of Fairy.
Reassembled and now it works
That though is it for day, as wife is on the way home and the afternoon is planned for her.
Oh well, best laid plans and all that, but at least coats of Varnish on so weathering can start after Decals added to Dashboard.

Sorry to hear about your AB troubles, I think it gets us all from time to time (bent a needle this week).
I'm spending the afternoon cheering on Derby
At least it means a guaranteed six points for us next season.

Do you know what Willem, I'm cheering on Derby.
I may be a fox fan through and through for all of these years but I still don't want QPR to win and the infernal prune Arry.
I want some East Midlands teams in the Premier and I was thinking that's an easy 6 points

Gasoline Water Cans sprayed Vallejo Black, 30mm Sprayed with Gun Metal by Ammo.

NB. Mig Products Neutral Filter on this afternoon and Tamiya Buff XF-57 diluted down with water and then dry-brushed over tyres and underside.

Up at 06:00 his morning and streaking Mig Productions Oil Colours Abteilung Basic Earth along surfaces in random areas. Especially at front of vehicle and under chassis and along sides.
Never done this weathering i.e. a tiny drop of oils, and then clean No1 Flat Brush with a bit of thinners and then wipe down.
It looks great even if I do say so myself. The note is to keep it less than more.
I hope that is what I have done though

Mig Productions Dry Lake Mid Brown these are to go with the Gulf War Sand for a mix of three.
Then next stage will be first-time Pin Wash in Mig Productions Brown Wash.

Afternoon all

Pictures should have been in this but noticed that battery had failed on SLR.
So will post tomorrow.
This morning was mostly taken up with cleaning house pre-weekend off.
But after a mega clean, I decided to slope off to man-Cave and do a bit of work.
00 Brush loaded with Mig Productions Dark Wash and then around all panels and lines and bolt-heads. Q-Tip dipped in Mig Thinners and softened the Wash into the main body.
Then a Dry-brush of Vallejo Air Silver and work on the PE Anti-Slip metal panels in foot-wells in Drivers and passengers area and around Door Step-Up just to denote a bit of wear and tear to floors.
Next, a 60% Vallejo White and Buff mix and Dry-Brushed the whole vehicle.
Post-Man called with the resesed base and Sand Mix to make up simple Diorama. Now he called and stuffed the "While-u-were-Out slip through door but did not knock. This is cuz he was not carrying said package.........
So tomorrow I will post some pictures and hopefully you'll all be kind. But if your not I know it will be constructive in comment.

One more
Fitted doors tonight and Gimpy (GPMG). Last bits now are Pigments (tomorrow) and Cloth winch cover and Front Light covers.
30mm Grenade Launcher and Whips / Ariel are last bits then finished.
Funny kind of feeling when the end is nigh. Neither euphoria or sadness......not sure how it feels

Good morning all

Well, I thought I would post a few Jpg's as this build comes to an end.
Base has been covered with Mr Clay and moulded and given a suitable Steppe / Rugged Afghan look.
a 1-5 mix of PVA allowed a fine sand to be stuck to surface and at some point I will AB some colour to bring down the lightness of the sand.
The vehicle was finished with Mig Productions mix of Gulf war Sand PO37, Light European Earth P415 and Mid Brown (Dry Lake 2) PO57.
The mix was moistened in places with Mig Pigment Fixer.
So as you all know from my rambling thread. This was a free kit after subscribing to Military Modelling Mag. The 30 year break from this fine hobby (submit, bank balance evaporating all consuming mental torture.... ), allowed mind and "sausage fingers" to explore new developments of PE, Glues and Pigments and Weathering products that 30 years ago were non existent to a low earner, or even a high earner.
Has it bust this 48 year old, cynical, OCD, happily married human.
No, God damn it, it has not!
It may not be the best model I could have produced.
Its flawed and has faults, and that in a way is knowing the limits of the product you have in your hand and the need and want to develop it into something more.
In this case though, it was just a test subject to see if I could enjoy this hobby (big massive tick yes) and if I wanted to travel the road and do more (Ditto).
It though made me happy, and let me get back into the groove (maybe not the phrase I should be using at my age).
What has helped though above anything, has been the immeasurable help and support from you chaps. The encouragement and advice and a little praise from time to time has been worth the money and cut fingers and lost parts in bare floor-board cracks (no Carpet Monster in this Man-Cave ). Plus my Wife has even taken a interest and been giving an independent eye on proceedings. Thank you Mrs Donkeywalloper.






Would I do another 1/48 Airfix?
Nope! (it would have to be an exceptional model to make me want to attempt it).

Your never going to believe this but been assembling tiny lifting hooks this afternoon for the Meng VsKfz 617 (Next build).
Four lifting hooks from eight parts, its a 1/35 scale for feck sake and yet I feel like I'm back in 1/48

That's very nice John, some great work there!! The weathering turned out real nice and it's easy to mistake this for 1/35 scale.

Best way to beat the post-build blues is to have 6 or 7 on the go at once - then it becomes, "when the hell am I ever going to get these finished blues!"

Hi John,
Upgrades, upgrades... they get me every time and the boys from accurate armour are just the nuts, if your wallet can stomach it of course! Might interest you as I am toying with my next ISM project which would be a AFV Club Centurion mk 5/1 (not with the dozer) but after watching a Tank Overhaul episode on it I really want to buy a real one and get busy on it, alas though, way out of my budget, mind you I had that thought after attending War&Peace last year and falling for a SAS Landie... The Wife won't tolerate guns... So scale models it is...

Martin your thoughts are like mine. I want a British Army 432 (I took my Tracked Vehicle Licence in one and fell in love with the big lumps). I love the Tan Overhaul Programmes and it gets me all adventurous but then bump back to earth when I remember the price to fill a tank full of fuel up (£900 for a 432). Wife's are great but they don't dream enough and are far to straight and serious. Then again that's why we have a roof over our head....

Hi chaps and chappess

Just wanted to up-date my first build on this wonderful, wonderful site.
I have finally finished this kit and it's build and first base.
I just want to thank you all for the support and kind words and great tips and advice.
Photos of completed unit.



Diorama was given a final couple of coats of Xtracrylix Matt Varnish and some Mig Productions Pigments (Gulf war sand and Dark Earth). Masking Tape removed from Base edges and a few touches up here and there.
The main think is, I'm jolly chuffed with it and it gave me a lot of joy and some
The skills (LOL) and experience gained will help in future I'm sure
Thank you Paul, Lee, Martin, Mark, Will, Coen, Eryk and anyone else that gave this chap a laugh, help, support or a slap on the back.
