I decided to try out a new technique with the wing lights...

For those who don't know, simply cut out the moulding or impression of the light

Then cut a piece of clear sprue to shape, glue in and leave to set

When glue has set, just sand down the clear part to shape and then buff up with a er...buffer
Simples....

Really.....!!

Wings going together... as you might be able to see, I've got myself some Tamiya Extra Thin, I now see what all the fuss is about, great stuff. I got mine from Spotmodel £16 for two delivered, I didn't think that was too bad..

My pleasure vyper..

Now the footie's over I've managed to get some painting done and made a bit of a decision...

Sidewinder AIM l9 (?)

The instruction say that the wings can removed... I'm not going to bother with that but I am going to paint them separately...

Rough pre-shade...

Arse-end (technical term) primed...

Front canopy on and all foam up awaiting AK's primer...

I'm not going to have undercarriage down.. There it is I've said it. I would have finished the damn thing by now if I'd thought it though. No wheels, no painting the engine, no opening up the aux air intakes......

I'm struggling Martin, I was only trying to get undercarriage doors on and nothing....well you know what I mean. I can't wait to get to something...er....nicer!

Well made some progress as you're aware...

Primed with AK stuff..

Pre-shaded with Tamiya Rubber black..

Messy table! Sorry about that..

Some work on the can of peas..

Got the main colour down as well, Mr Hobby H333 Medium Sea Grey, just about the whole bottle I've used on the thing...

Can't go too close, as you'll be able to see how rough it is.
The pointy bit in the front in Tamiya XF-85 Rubber Black...

Done quite a bit today, it's just closer 'till I'm finished.
I must apologise if I'm coming across all moaning and complaining lads.

Next should be a Klear coat and decs.

Thank you for all of your comments lads, you've really got me through this. In the end she didn't turn out too bad, if you don't look close. The kit itself...well...I hope the new Tiffy is a better experience, some of it actually fits (quite nicely), most of it doesn't. I guess when it was produced, 1974, it might have a ground breaker, just goes to show how far we've come...... Or not?

Nige I'm honoured that you think that mate. She was strangely enjoyable in the end mate, but I don't ill be tackling a 24 anytime soon. I certainly now see the appeal of 1:32.

Great work mate,looks fantastic.I have the same model on my workbench also and trying to convert it to a GR-3 using FlightPath conversion set...its a pain to make it look right so far, but when i look at your result you boost me to give more care and finish it ,because looks awesome when its done,,.
