Wood work bench

The holes in the top are so you can place stops in and clamp towards it. In theory you have in effect a very long adjustable bench top clamp. The recessed area at the back for placing tools in and there is usually a bench vice at one end and a another at the end of the bench.....forget what you call that one. Google ...Images for woodwork bench.

Ok I had a fit yesterday
My model room is an absolute disaster and I canāt do any work.
Three active ish builds vying for space on the desk, four completed builds still kicking around in the way and far too many newly purchased kits piling upon the floor and then a 3D printer and washer hogging space too
I cannot do anything with out moving something else out of the way firstā¦.so time for some organization
Phase I: Right Corner Display Shelf
All from 1/4ā ply from house build scraps still around in the garage
Dry fit testing to be sure things fit and were level
I am getting some edge burning from my table saw as it isnāt tuned up well and I am using the fine cross cut blade to rip..ācause it makes a cleaner edge cut and I am too lazy to keep changing blades

maybe I need two saws
So after the dry test fit, I have taken everything out to the garage and sealed the plywood ends with gesso (a white stone basically) and then got a first layer of fresh white paint on them.
Before I went I messed around with some displays and LED ideas
I like the idea of interchangeable backgrounds on the sides to suit the model kit there
LED will be tucked underneath each shelf and organized cleaner, this is just rough for fun
More later

Phase II will be an extension to the left of the paint rack with a corner unit at the end of the deskā¦.still designing that
Already gathering up the appropriate wood from the garageā¦.which is also a mess
Phase III is a new paint booth surround

Indeed
It just alway takes far longer to do than you would like
I am literally sitting around waiting for paint to dry; wish I lived in a warmer climate
I almost jumped onto phase two, but realized I still have other stuff to do around the house
But the wood is pretty much picked out

I like those display shelves for the cars. Vary nice.
As for the environment, the words 'spinning plates' come to mind. Or more technically, its controlled chaos in there mate!

Uncontrolled chaos thank you very much
The paint sat and dried yesterday until after dinner dishes and dog walk
Then I gathered all the parts, humped them up two levels again and installed it all
Chose a yellow backing paper to cover and protect the wall.
The sides will allow a backdrop to be slid into place. Those need to be mounted on cardboard, but can be changed out.
Too zapped to do the LEDās this weekend, will do them soon ish; they are a wrestling match

So next up in the organization fit Saga is drawer dividers for my Husky four drawer cabinets.
I have two and they are eight drawers of freaking MESS!!!
So today I did the drills, saws, hobby knives and blades drawer
1/4ā Baltic birch ply and some 1/2ā regular fir stuff too
Before

Planned out on paper
Test fitting before finals
Lined and finished all dividers
A couple weeks ago I did my brass/aluminum and styrene tube drawer.
No before pic but it was a gong show too with all the different packages mixed in together, just awful
This will be the next drawer to tackleā¦what an embarrassment

This makes me want to reorganize all my stuff. I'm still working with the $12.99 plastic drawers from Wal-Mart I purchased when initially re-entering the hobby.

Indeed me too. Non custom ones let stuff get everywhere
I also have a messy broken plastic Staples cart to replaceā¦.
This is the wooden cart planned from Lee Valley tools I want to make similar

Plywood or maybe go for some nice walnut and maple my local wood store has right now

Really like that drawer set
Ps... Could probably extend it and add a thinner paper drawer for instructions and decals for current builds and the like.

Really good thinking there. Thin top drawer for instruction sheet and research

Good chunk of my Sunday on this cabinetās messy top drawer dividers
The plan: an upper floating writing utensil tray and divided bottom
I am a dinosaur still drawing on paper as a tech wizard causally pointed out
Test layout stuff inside, take measurements get details planned
Got the bottom dividers done , ran out of time for the upper tray.
Had to cut new strips from the full plywood sheet and cut more of the framework strips. That means a lot of ripping on the saw, not my favourite thing and super dangerous especially with the large plywood sheet. I need a safer easier way to do it with my circular saw, just donāt have the space or set up yet.

Well you can do that and I have....office organizers. Invariably custom is always the best. I have been tickering with the the idea of dividers just as you have done, but it has fully gestated yet. Still churning around for the best way. I don't know what you do , but as my desk work space shrinks during a build I find myself pulling out the drawers and using them as temporary shelves to hold the kit box halves and the instructions. Just as well I made them heavy duty.

Build the dividers out of Lego. A hobby within a hobby and the only danger is stepping on one.

I might make two of those rolling cabinets and do just like you say with the second
Freaking drawer sliders are a fortune !!!

They are indeed...I went with a level or 2 down from the top quality, but a good way up from the nylon ones. I bought my steel drawers....no sliders required so pretty basic but should last forever from Office works.
Unless you can rob some from a drawer set that someone is tossing out. I'm always on the look out for that sort of recycling.

Working on a pencil tray that sits ontop of the last tray I posted
I decided to make a leather bottom on it so it slides bettter and then added leather sides.
I think I will do some strips in the top and back edges to even out the edges better

So the inside cabinets got some organizers, now time for the garage
My nephew came over a couple weekends ago and wanted to wash his car in my driveway
All my car care stuff was literally strewed around multiple areas, took me for ever to find stuff for him.
A bit embarrassing, really
So I found a good cabinet on sale and ordered it. Today was a sunny Saturday and took the afternoon to clear out the left front corner, vacuum up and set up a car care section in the garage
Before : an ungodly mess
Cabinet together and matching old rolly cart
All the car care stuff inside in one place
Now for getting the paper off those French doors, tinting the glass and maybe painting all the walls a dove grey color

And there is a semi wounded rouge black widow spider in there somewhere out for my blood
