SO all praise to the modelling hoarders!
Hehehe, this is just the type of situation I am prepared for.
This is that one in a life time event that we can use that excuse. Going to be some people who wish they at least had a hobby like scale modeling...

except my 30yr old son who will just play video games.

I'm a 30 year old dude. I model AND play video games.
Also, updated pics of the stash. I'm seriously having a hard time figuring out what to build once the 88 shell is completed.

Nice varied collection you have, that will keep you busy.
I'm 60 and was still playing video games like bf and elder scrolls, but I was addicted and couldn't get any modeling done plus any time spent clutching the mouse usually resulted in neck pain and head aches, So I don't play any more.

Glad to hear that - as it looks like Branson is going to let the Virgin Airline business's fold rather than dip into his own pocket to keep it going till the end of lock-down. And BA have just announced 12,000 redundancies so not good at all. I hope you get back in the air sooner rather than later

Virgin only made a profit twice in the last 10yrs. If it was mine I'd let it go as well.
I do hope everyone gets their jobs and life back soon.

The title of this thread - "Whats hiding" is proving to be singularly apt right now.
As we - slowly - clean up ready to be able to move when the crisis is past all sorts of wonders are being revealed here.
Last week I found the part finished BMP-1/OT-90 and the DUKW.
This week I found a bigger treasure - in size and cost!! How the hell I managed to forget about this one is beyond me - its the Kit Form Services Alvis Stalwart which - if memory serves - is 1/24th scale.
I seem to recall buying it a good few years ago to turn into a replica of the one I used to own - 19 ET 90 - because the company making the kit used my old girl for a lot of the measurements. So ignore the price on the box lid - I got a hefty discount!!

I was straightening up my workroom today, and thought it would be a good time to photograph my stash. Probably not much here to interest most of you, but here it is:

Mostly early stock car racers, gassers, and pickups here, plus a couple for kit-bashing.

A couple of rally cars, and more kit-bashing fodder.

The newest additions to my stash. Sci-fi? . . . alternative world? Not sure how to classify them. The SkyMark is a bit of a cheat in this photo, since it's actually on the workbench right now.

Oldest stash-members. Figure kits and gaming miniatures. Black boxes on the right are Perry Brothers 28mm samurai. Cardboard boxes on the left contain Dixon Miniatures Legends of Nippon figures, and various steampunk figures.
I seem to have achieved stash stasis in that I've been building kits at about the same rate as I was acquiring new ones, and my wish list is (for the time being, anyway) empty.

I replied quite some time ago with a partial list, since then I sold around 110 unbuilt models last year at an IPMS event and repacked what was left into boxes. The problem was that I never inventoried the remaining stuff before I packed it all up.
My reason for packing it all up was to complete the remodel of my unfinished basement (where they are stored). Since then several things have occurred including a hydrostatic pressure leak of ground water into my basement around the seam of the wall and floor. This happened after a week of 21 inches of constant rain. Fortunate for me it was only around 3/8 inch of water in certain small areas of the basement, not all of it (and not where the models were). I contributed that to a plugged perimeter drain around the outside of my foundation / footer. Well I think I have the foundation drain solved and there hasn't been any other leaks. Also any and all water damage issues have been repaired. Next was an upgrade of replacement windows for the whole house (including the basement). Those two issues have put the remodel of the basement on hold (budget). So...
As I get older along with buying and selling kits I have realized that what I remember or think I have in my model inventory and what is there is often two different things. Then digger and a few others talked about their work areas, the model stash, kit storage, etc., so I thought now was as good a time as ever to actually inventory what I have left in unbuilt models. To help me with the vast majority of the kits I took photos. I will use these photos to create the basis of my spreadsheet. If you have never done a spreadsheet inventory before it is not hard,... but it is time consuming. There are numerous resources out there that have a repository sheet already formatted. All you need to do is enter the data. Some of the databases or sites available are:
Manage my Collectibles:
www.managemycollectibles.com
Kit Base 2:
www.suisoft.co.uk/kitbase/
Modelers Inventory Control System:
www.ipmsusa.com (modelers ICS provided by Eastern Sun Enterprises)
Scalemates Stash Manager:
www.scalemates.com
Search Microsoft Inventory Spreadsheet in the internet and you will find that many options are available; If you are savvy and have MS Office Suite, you can create your own using Excel. Apple has a similar piece of software called numbers, or you can now purchase Microsoft Office (Excel) for Apple items. There are countless more options out there...
With all this said, here are some photos of my current inventory which may change at anytime and usually does:
SPACE:
SHIPS:
ARMOR:
AIRCRAFT:
AUTO/GROUND VEHICLES:
Well, thats it other than a hand full of kits buried in places or two in route. Most all of my after-market items for specific kits are stored in the main kits box when possible. I have no plan of listing my after-market items in any kind of database spreadsheet. Once I get this under control I want to do the same for my die cast / 1:18 collections but that will be some other time.
DRUMS01 a.k.a. Ben
For those of you with thousands of unbuilt kits, I hope you already have them inventoried and good luck maintaining them.

Well, I tore my basement apart after posting the previous response and simply cannot find several other kits that were in the stash... something is a foot! Have you ever went to inventory your "stash" only to come up with several models missing?
And when I mean several I am talking about two large boxes with 25-30 models. I have a very sick feeling that when my family was purging the basement two years ago for remodeling, they may have accidentally tossed two storage boxes into the trash
Some of my missing models include the following:
1/72
- Testers Jolly Green Giant HH-53J
1/48
- Glencoe Grumman Duck
1/35
- MRC AH-1W Cobra
- Tamiya Hanomag 251/1 with troops
- Tamiya British 25 lb. with Quad Gun Tractor
- Tamiya Horchata 1A with Flak 38 Gun
1/32
- Hasegawa F-5E
- Hasegawa Boeing F4-B4
- Revell Harrier
- Revell P-38J
- Pro Modeler Messer. BF-110G
- Revell Mig-21 with PE and resin
And several more!.......
I know I've sold many kits, and some were even duplicates of what I have listed, but these I know were in the stash and now they are G-O-N-E! I'm sad, very sad......

I am at the office today, Sunday, doing a bit of paperwork and staying away from my wife's house cleaning fit.
But I got into my model kit stash here to plan builds and do a little inventory.
Not a bad thing to poke into a kit, especially one from eBay and see how things are inside. Some of those boxes are water damaged and banged up
I saw too many decals that are going yellow
Anyhow, some highlights
Gilles Villeneuve stash...he died early part of this month, he was a childhood hero though his son is more my personality
This Walter Wolf F1 car in 1/12 is in excellent shape and the decals are perfect still
Classic cars in 1/16 scale
I had written little notes about purchase price and shipping. Most of these kits are 2-3x more now than what I paid.
Suppose I should go home and face the wrath

Scalemates is the way. It might seem onerous to enter it all in, but you'd be surprised how quick you can do it and it saves so much time and money as you buy new kits and your not at home to check what you have. Plus you can put stuff up for sale or swap on there too. A great resource.
