Modelling Away From Home

I'm away from home for a couple of nights travelling for work. To prevent wasting time watching the television, I brought a kit with me and a few basic tools. It does make me realise how important a good light source is.
I recall the video from MakingModelsAgain where Gary made a kit in a tent. Any other similar experiences out there that you wish to share?

Lenny (ModelPro72) did a video recently where he showed his little travel modelling kit. He often does some modelling in his breaks at work and has a small case thing he carries some tools etc in with which to do his modelling, worth looking it up if you want some ideas for the future!

I bought one of those starter kits once and knocked up a Fw190 in a caravan. Her dad wasn't happy! Lol

Did you go by plane?? If this is true how did you do to bring a cutter?

It's UK travel only by train, I wouldn't attempt to do the same if using a plane. I just wanted to avoid the mindless tedium of hotel rooms.

I have a 6" by 4" cutting mat, knife, ruler, file snips and a couple of grades of sand paper in a small cardboard box under the passenger seat in the car, for when I arrive at a venue too early or if the weather is too crappy for a walk at lunch time.

My mate Gary used to do all his modelling from his HGV truck. He even wrote articles for the magazines about it. Not sure which mag but he was well known in the modelling world.

I told him about this forum but he thinks his technique is 10 years out of date. Paul will testify how good Gary Rayson his.

Yeah he did some excellent work, especially when most of it was done out the back of a hgv.

I asked him for his photos, so I could post them on here but his memory is like his eye sight Paul. Gone.

The two dio which was out of this world was the bridge scene and the knocked out stug, the one he built for the actual stug commander.

You would be surprised at how many modelers build while travelling. I know two builders who are commercial pilots. They are always somewhere, other than home. They just bring their kits and tools in the airliner and build while in the hotel. They seem to have more building time than me it seems!
