Is that the real bike? That thing is mint! At least you have a good reference for the build.

It sounds like a lot of issues; but on the bright side, it also sounds like you are coming up with good game plans to get around them. I have never built a motorcycle before, so I look forward to your future updates; as I am sure I would have ten times as many issues and I will be learning a lot from this thread! :)

it does not, however, keep the ham-fisted (me) from breaking bits occasionally. when i do, i transfer the colored collar to a cutting tool before hurling the broken bit across the shop in a rage. it makes the cutters easier to chuck and keeps them from slipping in too far.

Image

Great to see you back on line with this.
I dropped the plastic case with all those bits and broke all but two
I have also drilled them into my finger a couple times as they like to thread in fast
Problem is they fit the mandrel perfectly for my battery dremel (it is a pumpkin carving tool). Other bits I have to wrap tape around their shaft to be tight enough; So the shaft is awesome, but the drill bit very weak.
What can I say, I am a spaz

rubegoldberg wrote:yup. that drill design may have disadvantages but it sure is nice to always have the same size shank. makes chucking soooo easy!
Oh yea, that is what it is, the shank is the same for all
Somehow they gotta make the drill shanks stronger and less prone to threading in

I know of a couple of metal spoke tutorials if you are interested Will
Just throwing that out there in case you like self torture! I chickened out on the MG, but will do it for an Airfix Bentley kit

Your hole sequence on the hub looks good
What are you using for spokes??
I imagine a bit narrower gauge than the plastic ones??
You should get a medal for doing this....definitely taking a kit to the next level :th:

Looking good man, looking good
I can almost hear that sucker squealing in the vise :eeek:
Serves it right for giving you so much grief

The 3D printing shock strut I s pretty cool...I am just not going to look into your eyes in any of your videos so you don't try to enlist me into your cult
I was parusing RC car stuff on E Bay for wheels and tires and saw a bunch of shocks. There are multi colours and varieties, wondered about using them in a build someday

Happy Sunday,

Hmmm, never had Alclad stay tacky that long,Did you paint in light mist coats or heavy coats?Alclad chrome can be tricky to paint,I use their black base coat(making sure the base is shinny as possible) and spray the chrome in light mist coats at about a 45 degree angle to the part and slowly build up to the finish I want.Clear coating Alclad chrome will dull the finish,if you want a little more shine you can lightly buff it with a soft cloth. As far as it being fragile,It's just the nature of the stuff. :cheers2:

That is one tuff looking kit I like how they make it look so perfect on the box art  Love your work on the shocks, they will look amazing on the bike.

Sorry I can't help you with the alclad problems I have never used it but I do sprey lacquer paint for work sometimes and if it's not drying properly we usually put the heater on in the sprey booth. (max of 60 degrees C for about 30 mins normally does the job)

Keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing it come together :pop:

Uh ya..and I totally don't understand what the heck you are saying in #2 :

If I squeeze my brain really hard, what I got out of that engineering lesson you wrote is that one should build top and bottom separately and have a rod between them to allow for easier assembly and 3D fabrication.
Milling can be a pain as you cannot design undercuts unless you have a 5 axis $600k CAD milling machine from Germany....that is what my dental lab uses

I would go old school and make mine out of my trusty "box of many tubes" using either brass or aluminium
Thanks for the info and the motivation

Bad news my friend, you had done some cool things along the way
Your shocks and wheels spokes were awesome!

Had a bit of a test of the True Metal aluminum....paints nicely, but never comes up to a full shine and continually rubs off. I have just stripped my F40 Ferrari exhaust of it and will try the Alclad
