Oooo! Where did ya get this kit Ian? I haven't seen it on anyone's bench in quite a while.
Very cool. I didn't realise that this is the one that you're building.

And the only sacrifice that I require is your virgins... preferably the redheads... no not Wes.

Sorry Mike,

Ebbe drove all the red heads out of europe :)

So I made a small start with sanding wheels and sanding the barrel.

I was very curious about the zim too so I put a few pieces on to see what it was like. First off its a sticker, yep never knew that either. The instructions state put it on before you add any attachments. It needs to be cut out from the sheet and applied.

I have noticed one thing that I don't like about the zim but I might be over thinking it. Where two pieces meet it is impossible not to have a line but I hope this will be covered by the primer. Fingers crossed it will anyway.

I tried a small bit of glue on the two pieces but it had no effect. Was just seeing if I could blend the pieces.

Hopefully I will get some more done tonight.

The zim looks very good, though I imagine it being fiddly in places.

Nice start Ian!

Holy Crap Ian! That zim looks cool dude. Much better than I had expected. A little putty will fix those seams no problem, I would worry to much about that. It if was PE zim it would be trickier as the textures don't match, but yours will work fine I think.

I'm using the same Zim on my mid production, I've only done a couple of easy bits so far....it's a bit fiddily in'it Ian..

I really like it in the easy to apply flat parts but on the humps and hollow parts it is terrible. I am not so sure this won't peal off at the edges in a few months time. I will update this thread in the future if that happens. But on my application I needed to shave back all the edges with a blade.

So small update

I applied a dark piece of plastic to hide the fact of no interior in the tank if anyone looks. Incidentally this should be done if you are entering any competitions with a tank. I have never entered one and have no intention of entering one but apparently you will be deducted points if you don't do this. :ooops: I just prefer it when there are large gaping vents.

Primed her up. Used this colour just to get rid of it really.

Ok, probably going to catch hell off the purists but I have been looking at all the builds and there are far too many that are simply stunning and are completely accurate. So I am not being accurate  .

Thanks for the kind comments guys appreciated.

Got a little bit done today and yesterday,

Working with tamiya individual links was to say the least depressing. 200 links with four to six injection marks is very pour imo. Secondly there is bugger all room between the last wheel at the back making working the track into position virtually impossible. Took me about six hours to get the tracks on to the model and I am far from happy with them. To get them to fit in some way I had to attack from both ends to get any kind of result. Now I know how the engineers felt when both sides of the channel tunnel finally met.

Primed. Painted black and then a little Tamiya hull red. Will eventually add earth effects from AK and Dark Steel metal pigments on the raised edges. I like this effect because it looks better as opposed to the chrome or silver I used in the past to simulate wear and tear. It's less bling imo. I suppose lead would do the same.

Some sunshine turned up and I wanted to see what a washed out photo looked like. I was thinking of the photos we see of the armour in that era.

Then it happened. I was afraid of this but I managed to get it back into place with some ca glue. The cobbler in me prevailed for now lol.

After some washes to tone it all down.

She's fantastic Ian, really smart and I love that camo. I might be picking your brains soon about them bloody tracks as I'm going to have to start mine any time. Great stuff....

Thanks again guys.

The only advice I would give would be to weather the tracks as I did because there was no way I was filling over 800 pin marks lol. I just found it difficult to get the track over the last wheel on both sides and had to employ ca glue. I would not mind I went to all the trouble of making it so all the wheels could spin to help with the track going on. Blah helped me not it did.

That's looking the nuts Ian! I love that weathering. I saw that pic of the zim pulling off after the guys told me about it. Damned near crapped my pants. I thought that the whole side let go. I'm glad that it was just a wee bit. You can't even notice it.
It's afine pice now.

Hi Mike.

Its coming away from the top of the turret showing the little gaps in the last photo. With fix it tomorrow if I get a chance but chances are the paint job is screwed there. But it kind of suits my purpose I wanted a little wear and tear there showing a smooth edge from climbing up and down. I don't want a hard perfect edge. Probably a case of father ted again by me though lol

Like that a lot Lego, the camo looks really nice! And that's a great tip with the tracks, using metal pigments instead of a steel colour - might just have top "borrow" that if you don't mind!" :th: :th:
