So here is my build for the SIG

Parts that have arrived for the build:

This picture was take by my brother in Cape Town, he is bringing the Zvesda sets when he comes for a visit 13th Jan





All of theses parts were ordered before December 2014
And the outstanding items will only start pitching in mid January.

Meanwhile I'll be watching your progress

I also have more crew sets so will still decide which will be used
as I have no idea of the Zvesda crew sets quality

The amount of etch in the set is quite scary ......... have not yet done a build with so much PE
But, here's hoping for the best

That's a tall order that you've set up for yourself Nam.
That PE is going to be a challenge, but you'll learn a tonne from it.
Hopefully you won't learn to hate PE haha.

Ok... so here is a question that has been bothering me in the time I have done my research.

Why at the front of the Tigers with zimmerit is the zimmerit chipped away for the company insignia but on the sides and turret
the crosses and tank numbers were applied directly on the zimmerit??

I have found some pictures of King Tigers where the zimmerit was chipped away for the turret insignia.

Was zimmerit only chipped away where the insignias were?????

I think so
That is because a number or balkenkreuz was easy to paint of
Unit insignias are some what harder to paint
Although some had easy designs and they where painted on top of the zimmerit

All in all....... the kit is build able and with the PE set it should become even more of a nightmare

I hope that that kit is a better version than the one that I have here. James Divall on YouTube has built the version that you have there and he didn't seem to have too much trouble with it, so that's good : D
I know that a set of PE would certainly go a long way to improving the kit.

Here is my latest progress report

Got the radiator and fans installed and painted. And with the help of very, very warm water and my whole arsenal of cloth pegs.......
managed to get the hull assembled.







the turret interior is also done painted and weathered..





and then currently busy with the sub assemblies to paint separate and currently building up the strength to start all the PE work

Well back to building......... and you should to!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok.... so I have assembled the wheels the wheels
And also did the rear toolbox. I had to cut off all the detail and make the box smaller as it would not fit in the PE holder.
Engraved the lid (bit thick but HUH)
Added all the straps and the locking mechanism and lock.



And since its late now, that will be all for the day

I've not managed to do allot as the wife ended up in the hospital for the hole of last week and I was on parent duty alone at home.
Luckily the operation went smooth and see got released from the hospital to day.

But as for the progress here is what I managed to do up to now..

Finished the turret box PE parts



just need to do some cleaning on the excess CA glue

Also finished the fire extinguisher.....



It is a pain in the backside to do these PE upgrades...... but it sure is worth the detail you get out of it ...

Then there is a quick question.................
What are these for?????????



Those holes punched in the side of the frets. All three frets has them

And just for interest sake..... this is my PE bender



It works for bending PE and dealing out cuts that require stitches

I am still waiting on my tracks for the beast and then also the metal gun. Luckily not one of these is holding the build back.

And as I just now found out when posting this..........
There is no spare tracks mounted to the side of the turret so all those track holders has to go

Check your reference material every step of your build !!!!!

Some of the photos being posted by you chaps are really amazing.
They are just great for detail and the vehicles show all manner of damage here there and everywhere.
Just one of those pictures shows a ruddy great dent in the top of the Upper Hull Smoke Dispenser.
Its great work on your part.

I don't mind damaging the PE parts to represent the real deal but the damage to the mantle and the front of the hull scares me a bit.
Not simulated that type of damage before on styrene yet, but will have a go.
The nice thing about the references is all the small damage to the tank that is not always thought of when building your model.
Look at the whole in the side skirts...... there is no damage that can be seen to the actual hull but look at the size of the hole?????????
Usually a shell would have blown the entire skirt off..
Also.....usually on Tigers the turret bin is damaged but not here on this tank.
Yes these photos where taken when a ditching exercise was done but with the amount of damage to the hull you would think the bin would also be damaged.

So yeah..Jermaine, I doubt I will finish in time but the for the amount of effort I put in up to now I will rather take my time and complete it proper than rushing it.

So here is some picture of upgrade parts...

I replaced most of the tools with the dragon ones, more to scale and wired up each of the smoke launchers.
The ABER gun barrel is a piece of work on its own and does add allot to the kit.
I never expected the amount of work when adding a complete PE set to a kit.
Almost lost my mind working with such small parts but managed to push through.
The tracks I order never got here (LOST IN PACE/POST) and so I have to either opt for the Zvesda link and letgh set that came with the kit or save up some money and buy Fruil.

So thats the current status of my build

This is the first of 4 kits I have a full set of PE for, I learned allot from this build.

Because I'm not the most patient builder I'd probably give the Zvezda tracks a try... However. You've done such beautiful job so far, why risk it with Zvezda?
It's freaking gorgeous so far. Superb looking build.
