Tamiya Tiger I Mid Prod. (My first Tigger)

Post by Joesdad »

Here we go then the first tank I've had a go at. Thought I'd keep it as easy as I could with the Tamiya kit. It looks fine to me and being Tamiya it should fit. I'm going to use stick-on transfer Zimmerit, I know there is a couple of lads using the same.
Below there's a few photo's of the kit.... I guess you might have seen Tiger sprue's before...

Image

Image

There is two versions so if I cock-it up....

Image

Er...

Image

Ooh..

Image

Image

Ah, I know what this is..

Image

Hmm..

Image

Image

Two options for me (there's actullay three in the destructions) Ill have to see how confident I am nearer the time..

Image

Aw well when in Rome..

Image

Image

I'm going a bit of help with this if you're up to the challenge and don't forget it's my first tank let alone a mighty Tigger..
Thanx for looking lads.
Yes.. It is supposed to look like that!

I'll watch this, if I can get a kit quick enough and build it up quick enough it'll only be my second armor kit ever! :pop: :pop: :thumb1: :thumb1:

Looks like this should be good, someone who knows armor as little as me, we're going to have a good time on this build thread mate!!

Hillbilly.. Yeah I believe there might be thinning issues with these MIG's as some need a lacquer thinner and some don't, something to look forward to mate....

I've managed to get a couple of hours in, what with SWMBO on call and taking my maid to a her friends' birthday party  Started with a bit of plate spinning...

Image

Then some work on the rear end :D

Image

Image

Agh! White-out... 8-)

Image

Engine hatch in and test fit top onto the hull, just to see...you understand.
Because I've haven't got any internals, would it be a good idea to paint inside the hull black?

Image

Looks ok so far...

Enjoying it up to now, although I ain't looked at them tracks yet :eeek:

Tim, I take a small blob of bluetac and stick it to the bottom of my bottles of brushed on glue. Then I stick them to the place that I find most convienient on my bench. I don't move them after that. I haven't had a glue spill in years as a result. Cheap and easy.

The simplist ideas are always the best my lord.... :ooops:
Mike, what colour oils for a filter would suit a dunklegelb (?) camo scheme? I'm off to a craft shop later and might pick up a couple Windsor jobbies

The only time I use filter Tim, is if I need to adjust or correct a paint job. So the colour of the filter is dependent on the correction that's needed.
So if it's a Dunklegelb that is too yellow I'll filter it with white to fade it or green to deepen it, blue to really make it look old and battered, or a yellow to enriched it.
If it's a multi toned camoflage scheme and I want to make them less stark in appearance the. I'll pick a colour close to the most dominate colour and use that as the filter.
Less then 5% paint to thinner is all I use. And I add it in layers until I think the correction is made.

Nothing you can do just start cutting and filing :(

You did a much better job on the application of the zim. Much better than I did. But I suspect it will peel over time :wall:

*A revelation*..... :th:
I bought a Mig paint set for the Tiger so I thought before I do cook lunch I'd try it out...

Fantastic paint, (so far) using an H&S Evo 0.2 needle 25ish psi and no thinning. It makes think i know what I'm doing. Maybe buying paint sets is the way forward? I highly recommend this stuff.

Really lovely paintwork besides the problems mate (I just had an overwhelming urge to type Bill there, hmmm...)

Can't wait to see this all weathered up!

OUTSTANDING paint work ! Camo looks awesome ! sorry to hear about the issues with the MIG paints. I know when i spray MIGs I have no problem. I always give them a good shake/mix which I think they need to spray correctly.

Yes the weathering, once we get started I'm sure we'll fine, although I'm not blessed with loads of products
It's the tracks :bash: oh the tracks...... I know most of are using these Fruil tracks, but I'm oob with the damn things. If any one can give me pointers on youtube or a link or even tell me how to fit, what the best colours etc etc :wtf: :
