Global Scale Modeller

I used to build a few airfield kits with my dad many years ago. Early last year I picked up this kit as I thought it would be fund to have a go and relive those childhood memories. I choose this kit as I like cars and there are not many more iconic vehicles that the E-Type.

Soon after purchasing the kit I looked on the Internet for other people who have build this kit for some insights and tips. For my first kit it sounds like I choose a bit of a challenge

I finally got all the bits I need to build it and glued the first bit together this evening.

I love the sleek lines of old Jag As far as the kit being a challenge....If you have a problem just relax,take your time and the answer will come to you.There are several of us on here that build car models so if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask,oh and remember building models is fun

I have made a start painting the first few pieces. I thinned the aluminium colour a little as the revell acrylic seemed a bit thick and this went on fine. However I had quite a bit of paint left over so I used the paint unthinned on the next part (out of the lid) and it didn't "stick" so I have had to give it a couple of coats before I could no longer see plastic.

I had some primer in an aerosol but it seemed a waste for such a small part. Wife suggested I prime the whole sheet of parts together rather than individually which sounds like a good idea for tomorrow.

For the detailed painting of small areas do people tend to mask or just have a very steady hand?

For me if the area is easy to mask i'll mask it and use my airbrush if not then I will hand paint.One little tip about hand painting that will help stop your hand from shaking as much is to take a breath and then let it out and hold it there,that is called your natural respitory pause and will help steady your hand (just don't hold it too long) I use that method when im at the range shooting and it works wonders for painting models also

Made some progress on the engine. Quite a few the parts are already "chromed" some of it I have then been asked to paint in an aluminium colour.... So far my experience has been the plain plastic parts are easier to work with.

Great tip, was thinking 'this guy must be a shooter' as I have been taught that as well

Better there than on the other end of it!!

The fact that the kit is 1/25th scale and not 1/24th scale like Revell Germany's latest offerings suggests that it is a re pop of the old kit that Revell USA issued way back in the 1960's. If any car kit needs re tooling by Revell it is this one. Such an iconic classic!

Long time since I've had time to work on this. Built the front suspension and now working on the firewall. I've gone for brg rather than the gloss back recommended by the kit.

From what I've read about this kit it is quite old now and some of the parts don't fit together that we'll. Apparently the body is a right mess but that's still a few steps away yet!

Keep plugging away at it... lots of test fitting and adjustments and you will make something out of her
