Hi guys so after i did the F-15 and Eurofighter i got a liking for modern jets so i decided to crack this baby open


it looks a really nice kit so i thought it would be a nice build with a few challengers. How wrong was i problems with fits and instructions which i will try
to show in the photos.

So with most aircraft we start with the cockpit and all started well with so PE for the seat belts and dials.




the nose wheel bay fits under the cockpit so that's all good the only problem is that the main wheels have to be fitted before fuselage halve go together I normally paint these separate and are the last thing that i glue. so the nose wheel needs to be installed.


so next was the main wheel legs and this is where the problems with the instructions start.


as you can see some of the parts have been labeled up incorrectly luckily i spotted this early before the glue had been applied the legs are very strong looking like the real aircraft. but was made up of quite a few parts.


after this i started on some more of the sub assembles. starting with the tail heat shields it all lokks very nice but more problem were waiting to rear it head.


all the interconnecting holes needed opening up and the main locating strip needed trimming to get it to sit correctly.


next its on to the engines again some nice detail with some PE for the fans inside the burner cans


But it wasn't until this point that i notice some thing wrong with this they are made up of two parts top and bottom one side having a nipple and the other not so they could be located into the heat shielding. again the instructions where all wrong again.

G5 should be G22


and G23 should be G5

and to be honest after that i had to put it down for the night before i launched it against the wall so here we are.

Ohhh, baby....I love the Jaguar...it doesn't seem to be a popular kit with manufacturers though. I'll see how this one goes for you, Nige and I might be tempted to buy this kit if it goes together ell and looks good

Exactly what I was thinking, the Jaguar is a real bad ass looking machine. Good luck with the rest of the build.

Problems aside, looks like some nice detail. I like the undercarriage. I've been waiting to see one of these built as I love the jag, but I've never done a kitty hawk kit. Good luck with the rest of it Nige!

Cheers Martin kitty hawk also do the British jag mainly it's a differnt nose and tail fin I think so hopefully I'll get that at some point but at least I'll have a better understanding of how it goes together lol.

Revell have just rereleased an old tool kit and I know airfix did one a few years ago again a rereleased kit. Other than that I think that's it so there needs to be a few other company's need to give it a go.

Nice model, my first ever model I built as a kid was this one in 1/72, surly it ended up as a ball of glue and enamel paint. THis one looks absolutly top notch.

Italeri do one in 1/72, don't know if it's a rebox though? I'll be following this closely Nige, I'm hoping to get the RAF jag at some point too. So this will be valuable info! Cheers buddy!

I have seen a couple of builds and unfortunately this is considered Kitty Hawks worst kit.
Detail and extras are top notch but instructions and parts fit are crap. A real dog of a kit.

BUT! the Jaguar is a very sexy Cold war machine.

Dont throw it in the wall Nige!


Keep calm, let it rest if it fights You to much, and step by step beat it into submission.
This kit looks fantastic when finished, dont give up!!

Despite problems, great start, detail looks great, gears look super.

Such a shame. Kitty Hawk comes out with really interesting kits but they are just so sub par compared to other manufacturers.

Well its not ended up smashed in fact ive done a bit more im taking it steady with this so i get it right.

to be honest ive not done much more got the wings glued together. but the is quite a cap separating the top and lower parts which ill so later when i come to filler.


next i moved onto the ordnance and again found problems with the instructions

but nothing major.

So you're telling me this kit is a Turd? $hit, I keep buying Kitty Hawk stuff because they look so sweet in the box... Aside from the $65 MiG-25 I've gotten them at bargain prices at least. $20 each.

I do believe this is there worst kit out of the lot but the rest are ok or so I've been told.

Hoping to get back to this weekend fingers crossed.

They look like they're getting better with each new release. But those are all kit reviews and not builds so who really knows.

I'm currently doing the Revell 1:48 GR1A in RAF Camo scheme. I will probably get another one and do it in Gulf War colours.

How is the Revell jag? I've heard it's a bit nasty. How are you finding it? Can't be that bad if you're thinking of getting another, I guess.

Without getting off topic too much - It hasn't been too bad a build so far.

A few ill fitting parts that required filler and sanding (nothing too major). The undercarriage assembly drawings are a bit confusing and reference to photos help explain a few bits. This is not a model to fit the undercarriage or antennas etc to before painting. It is a bit nasty admittedly, but it presents a good challenge.

My next one will probably be the Trumpeter variant

Right guys time to get back on with this with the problems it was really hacking me off so after a couple of months away from it would do me good.

I got the cockpit painted in and into the nose there was a few problems with but i managed to get them sorted the cockpit is about half a mm too wide so i took a sanding stick and took some of both sides then clamping both half's together managed to get the cockpit glues in place. Then it was time to attach the wings i had to fettle the locating slots to get them to line up but i small step was left on both wings which will need sorting. So when i get a chance it will be out with the sanding sticks and the filler to get the kitty already for paint.
