A few new minor changes....

Post by Lee »

As I'm sure you've noticed there has been a few new little changes to the forums....

We have added a favicon, which shows up in the address bar as ISM. Thank you to Karim (amsvkng) for designing that for us, very much appreciated mate :th:

We've also managed to get the logo back in the header and you'll notice the eModels advert. We've given eModels the space to advertise as they are now helping with the cost of running the forum, which is not cheap these days due to the traffic.....lol

Thanks to Pete at eModels for your help and to Karim also for helping with the favicon....

There are a few more forum updates planned in the future to maximise your browsing here. Hope you like the little changes :D

Have you enabled server side compression for the forum lee? If not it'll save you a bunch on bandwidth usage.

In the address bar you should now see a little ISM icon instead of a globe or whatever windows uses. If you add ISM to your bookmarks it will show an icon by the address :)

The favicon comes up in the bookmarks on my PC, but it does not show up on my Ipad.

in order to get the favicon to work on various media, PC, iPad, smart phone etc some work needs to be done on the site.

firstly the favicon needs to be in different formats and sizes 16x16, 32x32, 48x48, 64x64 and 128x128. the .ico version typically is 16x16 but it could contain multiple sizes. Non Microsoft browsers, such as Safari, Google Chrome and FireFox can 'use' .png format images

if Microsoft made a decent/compatible browser then you would be able to use a .png rather than an .ico image, this would make developers and designers life far easier.

Once the different size/format icons have been made and uploaded to the site, then code will need to be added to each page that you want the favicon to show on such as…

<link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="http://www.intscalemodeller.com/favicon-128.png" />
<link rel="icon" href="http://www.intscalemodeller.com/favicon-32.png" />

… then the favicon should show on any device
