Ace 1 72 Kfz.1 Staff Car

Post by WirbelwindModelling »

Well hello,

While i put the Jagdpanzer IV build on hold until i can get some better tracks I worked on the next item for the diorama.

And here is the kit in question Ace Models le.gl.Einheits-Personenkraftwagen Kfz.1

Here's some History:

Here's some nice pictures:

And here's a nice walk-around of a survivor (very useful when doing the build):

Now this kit is not the best kit the sprues are flashy the detail is soft and the sprue attachments make sanding the tiny parts a nightmare, i suppose the best way to illustrate this is to just show you:

yeeeeeeeeeeeeah it's not great but it's a challenge

Not the greatest instructions either (scans from the Ace Models website)

And here is the the finished build ready for paint:

-I replaced some parts with thin brass wire (Guitar Strings  )
-I lost the clear parts so i will probably replace with some clear plastic packaging by the next time you see it

A match stick for scale in pure Achtung Panzer (the 1 72 master) style :thumb1:

A penny for the Brits out there...

Next to a 1 35 Stug for some more scaling

Well it was a challenge but well worthwhile and is it me or is it kinda cute :D

See you next time for the interior painting

:hi:

Hey Rufus, nicely done sir, I have very nearly purchased this kit myself on a few occasions.:
Its poorly moulded by the looks of your images but you have tamed the beast and made a cracking little example!
ACE seem to manufacture most of the 1/72 scale Staff cars of the time, from all sides.
Unfortunately I saw a review and build of a Black Staff car ( cannot remember the make ).... and the roof was on and it looked real bad, putting me off!
Had I seen your build up first, I would have owned one by now for sure...
Well done again, look forward to seeing you progress with the little gem!
Good luck buddy... :thumb1:
:cheers2:

Thanks for the kind comments, the market is a bit sparse for us Braille scale fellows and some of the quality of the kits is awful. However I relish the challenge of these kits and with a little bit of extra work they turn out pretty good.

On the subject of german staff cars there are plenty of kubels and schwimmers out there but I you want something more unorthodox your either going to have to try you hand at one of these little Ace monsters or shell out £18 + on the dragon Horch.
