1/48 Monogram B-17G Diorama

Hi everyone, this is a diorama I built a couple of years ago. This is my first Air Gallery post so I hope I'm putting it in the right section of the forum? Apologies to Paul and Lee if not and I'll move/delete it

This is my tribute to the B-17 'Chowhound' that was lost over France in 1944. I wanted to depict the bomber arriving safely back in England with it's tired crew getting out, lighting cigarettes and looking at the damage they took.

This is a 1:48 Revell/Monogram kit. I also used the Hasegawa 1:48 'follow me' Jeep and various ICM figures for the diorama. Everything is hand painted. I made the base from chipboard, and I used some doorstop timber for edging. It's a cheap way of making a base, but the results were good. I'll use plywood instead of chipboard next time.

I used white card (glued on with PVA) to create the taxiway, then sprayed it gray. I then brushed it with a couple of oil washes afterwards to make it look more realistic. The grass is just fake turf (coarse and fine).

Great work! The battle damage looks really realistic. The only hint is that the US insignia on the wing is turned the wrong way,
but it's not a big deal. I wonder where you're gonna put this dio, it must be huge.
Lovely work on the base and figures too. The jeep looks also really neat.

Thanks for taking a look Planemaker I finished the dio a couple of years ago and have kept it on a shelf. Everything is attached to the base so I can keep it at an angle.

Thanks for pointing that out, I actually didn't notice until I'd finished it My head sometimes shuts off with the bigger kits I'm trying to find somebody who has done the 1/32 HK Models B-17 to see if it's worth attempting one day. All the best

Good stuff from a classic kit. You really captured the scene with this one. The weathering is just right I think.

An amazing bird. Some of them would come back with half the vertical fin blown off and still be flying.
