FineMolds 1/144 Millenium Falcon

Ok... so I've decided that I'll post some videos after all.

After watching dozens and dozens of how to videos I realised that I've never seen a video of anyone building a model from start to finish in its entirety.
Probably because it's incredible boring.

However, after watching myself on one of these I noticed that I see myself doing things that I didn't know that I was doing(including sneezing my brains out and talking to myself). Neat little tricks, and using methods I never thought to share with anyone because I thought that they were trivial, but a modeller that's just starting out would find extremely useful.

Or it will teach them all terribly bad habits... and I'm ok with that.
This is more for new builders to see what a modeller does in a sitting at the bench and hopefully... they'll see the magic of something slowly coming to life before there eye... and hands.

Mostly it will bore the living crap out'a ya!.

I'm also learning how to be in front of a camera for the first time.
Try not to die while watching.
In fact I wouldn't even bother watching any of the early ones unless you really want to see a builder engrossed in his work.
I get over my hesitancy about talking around the end of number 12.

Videos removed from youtube due to repeated copyright irritation from the background music.

And for your added enjoyment and boredom... some progress pictures

Ahhh the box opening... nice, but so small!!

Image

A lot less parts than I had expected, but the detail is beyond anything that I've ever seen in a Sci-fi kit.
Image

Very simplistic instructions

Image

Some sub-assembly

The cockpit and the tunnel to the main hull is just dry fitted at the moment, so I can open and paint the cockpit later.
The kit came with these tiny masks for a bunch of different clear parts, I've never had to use these before so it should be a learning experience.

Thanks Lee,
I was wondering why I couldn't find it. I wasn't sure where to put it in the first place.

Good to see you survived if you watched any.
You may be happy to know... that I've started to speak... maybe too much in the newest vids.
I'm uploading a few now.
We'll see eh?

I think i died and became a zombie :D . On a serious note good job so far :th: .

Nice idea to film the build, just watched the first one :) . Its always good to see other peoples techniques and style at approaching a kit. Might be an idea to get more people doing this in the group builds then it sort of feels like a club.

The first video you posted is titled 002, is the first one missing or is my pc playing up?

Thanks, and that sounds like a cool idea.
The first one was about 4 seconds long and was on me sitting down. I didn't think that I needed that one.

So here are a few more shorts... I got over my hesitance about speaking near the end of number 12.
Then it's verbal diarrhea.
I also changed the camera angle so it's more like I'm talking to someone.

Three vids removed for PITA reasons.

So the building stage is done.
Now it's on to the painting... I just have to wait for paint.
I'm all out of flat black (a spill and a leak during moving), I've got some on order but I'll be a couple of weeks.
I could go to the LHS but that's actually more of a pain because it's in the city I only go to the LHS if I have another reason to go into the city... I'm plum out of reasons too.

Here's some pictures and a new video or two as well.
These aren't as boring... I actually speak sometimes... well a lot actually.

I had to cut apart the landing gear doors... I'm not sure if it's right... don't really care enough to dig further than I have for that info though.

Only if you're really bored. You don't have to watch them all Lee. If you want you can just watch everything after number 12. I stopped with the mime imitation by then. :D

 I'm transcoding several gigs of video for a documentary I was working on. Sadly the guy in charge passed away but I still have all the video. This eats up my PC so I killed a lot of time with your videos. They're not bad mate - not sure I could watch them more than once mind you :nena: :nena:

Cheers

Last night I did some work on the Falcon, I decided not to bother waiting for the paint that I have on order and post shade with some dark grey instead.
Then I sprayed on some light grey over that on all the panel centres. No easy task as there are hundreds of panels and greebles everywhere to avoid.
It is what it is.

Apparently I was in a foul mood when I made this and it may be evident in the video.

A bit more work done now. She's all final base coated and gloss coated.
Now the decals are all on.
I just finished the first layer of some detail paint and I'll put another gloss coat once all the decals are set up.

Here's a few shots and a video... I feel shame for neglecting her for so long.

Thanks Lee.

I'd suggest the 1/144 version. It has spectacular detail for it's size and with a dremel tool you can dress it up even more.
You would love this little thing Dude, since your a Sci-Fi guy. I highly recommend it.
Her big sister, though fun and magnificent... well she's huge... and the same.
She also costs $180 more.

I hope so. I've slowed down on the big one only because I didn't have room on the bench for it. I do now so my focus will probably change as a result.

Would love to get one of these but the wife says no because she not a star wars fan she's more into Star Trek where as I while preferring Star Trek enjoy Star Wars but if she says no it's no for now but I keep working on her lol.

She is such a gorgeous looking tub. ;)
Coen mate, you've done her proud.... Really nice work, excellent finish and some interesting YT vids along the way that would help out any "falcon" builder needing to see techniques relating to paint, decals or weathering.
Well done again on clearing your bench ready for "big sister build"... Top Drawer mate.. :D

Thanks guys.
It's not bad for a first time build. Same with the vids.. they'd be good for folks that haven't done something like it before.

I'd be happier if that mask had done it's job on the cockpit canopy.
The little sticky ones that came with the kit are terrible. I should have used the Maskol from the beginning.
I'm not sure how I'll be fixing that yet. But it's the thing that burns my arse at the moment.
Her big sister got the full Maskol treatment. So hopefully I wont have the same thing happen there.

How is the hyper drive working on the falcon? Don't want to run into any "Imperial entanglements." :nena:

Seriously, nice work! Recently saw a few Falcons at the IPMS Nationals. Will have some videos posted on my channel soon.

I was hoping that you would WHOHOOO!!!
Anybody famous there?
Post some pictures Russ... you should start a new thread for it.
Pop your vids into it too.

Oh sorry.. yeah the Falcon is coming along. I got distracted by a BF 109 that landed on my bench. So she's being neglected again. She's almost finished though.
A bit more weathering and some detail work. Then I have to fix the cockpit glass (that won't be fun).

Thanks Prumus,
She's being neglected a bit again. I'll get some work done on her tonight or tomorrow morning I hope. I'd like to get her finished up and put in her place before I'm dead. haha.
