Next project something little and simple - ok maybe not so small, and not so simple - a nice 1/32nd F-100 "Hun". Also has some Eduard PE extras, and a master Pitot tube.



Now as i've got the Eduard PE set for the Seat, the first work is chopping up some of the plastic parts ( and filling a couple of sink marks ).



Then assemble the base of the seat, with the PE parts for the head rest supports.



Coat of black primer over everything



Followed by a coat of Aircraft Grey ( Gunze H57 )



Finally base coats for the seat, and a coat of satin varnish over the top to prep for some filters, and prior to adding the PE belts.

Today's work on the Hun - first phase, started adding the PE Belts - the F-100 seems to have a multitude of belts



Then after a few hours work, added the sides, leg guards, rest of the belts and the seat it finally done

Awesome ejector seat, those seat belts look fabulous!

Almost a shame to hide such a great and detailed bang seat inside another model. Great work!

Today's work on the Hun.

First the Gunsight and the combing - first assemble the 3 parts, and mask off the clear reflector. Added some solder wiring to the gunsight as well.



Then sprayed matt black over the top, then a light dusting with Dark Slate Grey pigment. A blob of Ammo Green Clear in the projector.



Then picked out the segments on the gunsight adjuster



Next up assembled the main cockpit tub - as the Eduard set for the seat narrows the seat, this required removing the seat rails and replacing with plastic rod a couple of mm closer together.



Then sprayed the whole thing with Gunze H57 Aircraft grey, then blocked out the main colours within the cockpit.



Base dry brushing with a light grey





Finally picked out the details, oil washes to blend things together, matted down, and assembled to cockpit - happy with how it's turned out

Today's work - the Big J57 engine. Only really bothered with the front and back, as they will be the only bits seen but still took all day to assemble and paint - Mixture of Alclads and oil washes to get to this stage

Today's work - Wings. First assembled the wings, slotting the slats into place ( try saying that three times quickly ). Took quite a long time due to having to fill quite a lot of ejector marks on the slats.





Then removed the slats and primed the slats. Ready to try the AK Interactive Extreme Metal 'Duralumin'



Sprayed neat at 15psi - seems to work nicely



Compare very favourably with Alclad - though they are Enamel rather than Laquer - they smell less, but take longer to dry. They are supposed to be tougher as well - will be able to test that when I mask off the slats

Week off this week, so more done today. First started by masking off the slats



Then the nasty bit - the intake trunking, which has quite a lot of ejector pin marks to fill



A coat of black primer once sanded back



Then assemble the trunking, and start squeezing everything in the fuselage





Finally added the rear fuselage section

Today's work - much of it a slog, but that's how these things go. Fitted all the panels for the gun bays, insets for the radar and gun channels. All of them needed blending in with Mr Surfacer 500 and in a couple of cases Squadron White. Lots of sanding back afterwards.





Then followed an epic rescribing session to restore rivets and panel lines. Followed by running along the panel lines with some Tamiya Extra Thin







Finally blasted some Aluminium down the intake after blending it - just to feel like I got something done

Today - Eduard's External PE Set. Annealed first so that the plates will bend easily over the fuselage.







Then added the wings - needed a small shim in the Port wing root, and then some Mr Surfacer 500 but nothing major.

Today's work after painting the shed. First added the skid plate and the tail hook



Then added the details to the main landing gear bays, added a few wires to busy up the area



The photo's i've found show that the Vietnam era Hun's had white intakes, so out with the glossy white



Finally when that is drying started work on the pylon food - had to scavange those from a Harrier kit - 4 Snakeeyes and 2 Mk 117's. I've also ordered some MER racks from Flightpath to give the snakeeyes something to hang off. Still lots of work to do on these.

Needed to correct the hook, which shouldn't have been straight so went to the shed again while I remembered. Fixed the hook, then decided to carry on and do a bit more. First cleaned up the bombs, and rescribed the panels



Then sprayed the yellow



Masked off the content stripes, then sprayed Olive Drab lightened with a little Buff on the bomb bodies



Then finally sprayed the bomb fins with Olive Drab with a little IJA Green, and sprayed a coat of Gloss Varnish over then ready for a couple of decals and some more weathering

There's not been any major problems - typical trumpeter with Ejector pin marks in inconvenient places, like it so far.

Seem to work nicely though they aren't massively different to Alclads - to me it will come down to price and availability.

Today's work - first finishing off the bombs. Started with decals followed by a Dot Filter on the main bomb unit



Then some pigments



Matted down, then added Flightpath PE fuses, and fusing wires



Sprayed the Gear bays with H54 Interiour Green, and fitted the airbrake in place.



Made up the main gear doors, and sprayed them while I had the airbrush out



Finally masked off the canopy rear section, and tacked in place with some Copydex. Masked the side panels of the front section with Parafilm, then sprayed the main section with Alclad Armoured Glass

Wow, awesome work so far, she's going to be a killer when done! I've never dot filtered my ordnance, and I don't know why I haven't when I do it to the rest of the aircraft. It made the ordnance look way cool...so, the next ordnance adventure for me will definitely be filtered!

Work for today - First sprayed the wheel wells and gear doors with Alclad Aluminium





Then glued the canopy in place - needed some Mr Surfacer 500 to fill a small gap



Added the mount for the refuelling probe, complete with the light masked with Parafilm



Rubbed back the Mr Surfacer, and remasked a couple of places where i'd caught the parafilm on the canopy



Masked off the gear bays with Blu-tak, and tacked the main gear doors in place



Masked the intake with Blu-Tak



Sprayed the canopy black, added the PE wing fences, and masked off the nozzle



Then out with the primer spray can, shake, and apply



This needs to cure now - there's a couple of places that will need touching up but nothing major.

Today's work on the Hun

Started by rubbing the primer back with Micromesh, and touching up a couple of places that needed it



Started pre-shading with black along the panel lines





Then along the rivet lines with some grey



Finally breaking up the panels with some Buff, gradually adding more and more white to the mix

I am in total "awe" in how much detail you have in the flight panel and pilot seat. It's pretty rocking!! I'm currently working on a F5 and tried making my own seat belts useing masking tape but it looks awful. Any suggestions?

This mornings work - basically started early, as I know I will need to leave the hot end a while before masking it off. So this is the rear section of the fuselage.

Start by lining up the Alclads and Tamiya clear paints that will be used for this



So first lay down a nice even coat of Alclad Aluminium as a base



Mask off the Afterburner section, and spray with Dark Aluminium, then very fine Jet Exhaust and finally Burnt Iron. With the Burnt Iron start picking out the centers of the panels where the metal would have got hottest



Then a spray of Hotmetal blue - concentrate on the edges of the hot areas



Build up the effect with Hotmetal Sepia



Then Transparent Smoke



Finally very heavily thinned Tamiya clear orange ( 95% Mr Color Levelling thinner to paint )



This needs to completely cure before I start masking over it. The idea is to have a none uniform looking heated surface - it's close to how I want it, but it's close enough to mask over, as I know later on i've got to spray the 'flaking' cammo colour over the top so there will be more work to do.

Right - more done, started by masking off the metal area



Sprayed the grey



Then the Tan



Then the Mid green



At this point I got a blockage in the nozzle of my Iwata Custom Micron CM-C Plus ( which is only 4 months old ), so for the first time I removed the nozzle - which sheared.



To say that I am annoyed is an understatement - this isn't a cheap airbrush, spares aren't cheap and you need to replace the entire head rather than simply the nozzle. When I looked at it under a magnifier there are cracks all along the threads, so it's definately a manufacturing defect. I've contacted The Airbrush Company who do the Warranty for the airbrush ( and with whom I registered the warranty with ), so we'll see what happens.

I then switched to my old airbrush, and sprayed the dark green

Today's work - started by unmasking the metal area



Then masked off the area again, and marked where the cammo area would be, ready to start adding in the heat affected cammo.



Start by spraying very heavily thinned Tamiya Buff ( 90% Mr Levelling thinners to 10% paint ), along the areas where there would be framing behind the panels (i.e. the areas that would stay cooler, and therefore the paint is more likely to remain ).



Then spray the Grey ( again 90% thinners ) on the bottom section, gradually covering over the buff and getting some overspray over the metal areas



Next up the Tan - same deal very thin paint, and low pressure building up gradually



Medium Green next



Finally the dark green



Happy with how it turned out, really does look like the paint has been coming off due to the heat. Added the stabilators and the slats





Finally sprayed a coat of Klear over the top of everything

Today's work - started by painting up the IFR probe, with some streaks of AK Kerosine



Masked the gun vents with Parafilm, and sprayed with Alclad Steel



Then masked off and resprayed the wheel bays with Interior Green



Making up the Flightpath TER-9's - fiddly but worth it





Blast of Alclad Grey Primer over them to even the metal and resin out



Out with the Dremel, and polished off the Metal landing gear legs - saves painting them



Made the outer pylons - needed to fill the mounting bracket , and cut a new one to allow the TER's to fit

Ever find resolution with Iwata? That's the brush I am saving up for, so I was interested to hear about the failure.

Today's work - started by painting the wheel bays, adding the Eduard Placards, and weathering them down a bit







Then onwards with my "Decal Haters anonymous" homework - using the Eduard stencil templates left over from my Phantom. I really like these as a) I don't like decals and b) they look better. So in true Mr Miyagi fashion -

Mask off



And Repeat until all the No Step and Walkways are done





No decals were halmed at this stage


Then on with the Decals, and a coat of klear over the top

The stencils are the Eduard Stencil set for the Phantom - used em on the 1/32nd Phantom and kept them as you can re-use them easily.

Totally awesome!

Today's work - First the U/C legs, added the sensor and brake lines with 0.3mm solder, then weathered with Oils and pastels to give some wear to the tyres. Also added the Eduard placards to the legs









Finally made up the big tanks - sanding and rescribing

Digging around today hit something of an 'Oh b**gger' moment - the Hun never carried TER's on the outer pylons.It could carry TER's on the inner pylons but not with a full load of Mk 82's.

So the Flightpath TER's will be parked - go for a loadout of 2 Mk 117's on the inner pylons, and 2 mk 82 snakeyes on the Outer pylons - Saves some painting anyway, and I can use them on the F-105D when I get around to that

Today's work - started by assembling the Undercarriage. This is fiddly getting all of the various actuators and rods in place, but does look nice once it's done.







Then started with the pylons and tanks - sprayed the tanks





Finally made the boarding ladder - sprayed with Alclad Aluminium, then Worn Effects, then the Yellow / Orange mix, then rub back with a wet brush, then oil weathering
