Hey Everyone, this is going to be my entry into this buddy build.


I actually never intended to enter into this buddy build as I have had my hands full with my F-14 that I am building for the Navy SiG but I had to kind of clear my head as the quality of the Academy kit was getting to me (quality of the panel lines and fir of the model) so I went to my local hobby store intending to stock up on some Tamiya thinners and getting a few more brushes, etc.

That's when I saw this kit hidden at the bottom of a stack of 1:48 Revell kits and it peeked my interest, after a little thinking I just bit the bullet and got it. At this point I was still not intending on joining this buddy build (I kind of didn't realize this kit was eligible ) but after litthe while scrollign through the forums I came upon billlarisa's buddy build of this kit and it just clicked .

So here I am, preparing to start jet another project

BTW, this picture brings two things to mind:

-1st WOW this bird really wasn't that big considering the F-14 is a 1:48 scale kit
-2nd WTF were the designers behind the F-14 thinking when they designed this monster of an airplane, and then to have it launch and land on an aircraft carrier... they must have been crazy

Thanks, based on the 5 mins I spent looking at the moldings, I cannot wait to get started, everything is very crisp and clear and there is very little to almost no flash to speak of. this is a very nice step up for me

Build Update #1
(It's a long one folks )

Well I decided that, after my experience with the Academy F-14 that I will take it allot easier on this model.

As far as possible I used the indicated Revell colors (in some cases I used the Tamiya colors that matched) so without further ado, this is what I have been up to:

A nice collection of plastic if I have to be honest.


I started, as always, with the cockpit


I assembled all the parts for the tub that will end up being sprayed the same color


I then prepped all the cockpit parts that will be sprayed Grey (Revell 374)



I then prepped the cockpit parts for decalling


I finished the decaling and sprayed the Instrument panel covers Dark Grey (Revell 9)


A little bit of detailing later

I have to say, the Revell decals were different to work with, they definitely need a setting solution (I used Mikro Set & Sol) but they realy go down nicely

I put the tub aside for a little and started on the seats


Assembled and ready for paint, the grey of the seats are supposed to be darker than the cockpit tub and I had Tamiya XF-66 that matched the Revell call-out


Painting done, I did some dry brushing of the seats with Silver (Tamiya X-11) and Light Grey (Revell 371) for the cockpit

There are two thing I did wrong at this point (In my opinion), the yellow on the seats look mediocre as best and the dry brushing of the silver was to heavy but the heavy silver does offset the "bad job" I did with the yellow

So the next step is decalling the seats


This is when things got...... Weird.....


Suffice it to say, I won't be using the seat belt decals, and as I am in no position (ability wise) to scratch build any I will be going with a no seat belt build

So moving on, I fitted the seats into the cockpit tub. They fit very well although very snugly.



I then moved on the the front landing gear assembly


I then painted, what I am assuming to be, the front landing gear door control mechanism in steel (Revell 91) although the call out is for Light grey, I just felt that the additional contrast will be nice


All assembled up to this point


This is where I am going to stop for a while, but not to shabby for 3 days of work.

This is the first 1/32 model I have build in Years, and even though it's technically a "cheep" 1/32 model it really does not feel like it. No 1/48 model I have build recently has gone together this smoothly or this accurately. I am really enjoying my time building this bird.

Yeah, sooo, I have not been keeping track of my progress as I should have. I am basically finished with this model and I am happy with it for the most part there are some things I have problems with but for the most part I am happy with my first 1/32 Jet ever

I'm Richard. I also built the Revell 1/32 HAWK T.1A. Let me give a little advice, Im an experience model builder and there is an easier way of making youre own seat belts and they will look authentic. Use if you can find the old style medical cloth tape and cut to needed size, in length and width. They will make your cockpit look better than using the fake decals.
