Somewhere in Afghanistan

So I thought I would post a bit about what I've been on with for a couple of weeks its not a masterpiece by any standards but I'm happy with it so far it is all airfix (sorry lee) apart from a few other bits and bobs more on that as we go,
Now I'm new to posting a full on thread on here so I might not have taken pics at the right time but we will see how we go,
So it started off with the 1/48 jackal


To this I added the full black dog photo etch set that was interesting to say the least instructions a little bit vague and it being the first time working with pe,then on to paint primed with ak dark yellow then painted with Vallejo light brown with a touch of white in

Then detail painting some other little bits I added was tamyia jerrycan and stowage set



Then it was on to the figures not my forte but gave it a whirl







Then on to the weathering just used Ultimate sand in a slightly different way I poured some in a container and dried it out once it was dry I crumbled it up to make a fine dust then spent a couple of days on and off scrubbing it in to make it really dusty, I really like how that worked out

That was that for a bit so i started on the 1/48 Lynx and I know its airfix but it's a really good kit fell together with barely a gap to see


Then on to primer then a bit of pre shading



Then in between primer and paint I had a birthday and the wife bought me this

So thought I ought to give it a go,so did all the camo freehand (first time) with Vallejo dark green and Vallejo light grey turned out pretty good


Then on with the other little things



Then the decals



Then I took a picture of it on a pre bought base

Then I took another picture of the jackal on another pre bought base

That's when I had a great idea

I added some sandbags and fuel barrels (tamiya set) along with a tipped over bucket of oil

I've put some fence posts in ready to have some barb wire put on (when it turns up)

Also put a few bits of grass and moss here and there hope to show a better picture when it's complete I also made some barricade type things not sure if I like them I might swap them for some metal also to have some barb wire on them

So that's where I'm at now probably missed a load of other stuff but you get it lol if you've stayed till the end go have a lay down you've earned it sorry for the crap load of errm crap thanks for having a look happy modeling

Say did you buy those bases like that or have you added your own rocks and sand and dust etc........ Hint.. hint.....
I bet all the rocks and groundwork is brick dust etc??... nudge... nudge....

What did you weather the sandbags with ?
Where did you purchase those extras?
Who you ordered the Barb wire from? Will you be buying the Masterbox Insurgents figures to create a situation at the LZ?..
Just a curious modeller interested in the build bro!.. lol...

So it looks like I need to elaborate a little the bases are pre made but I decided on making them a little more realistic by gluing some crushed sandstone grit and rocks and sand to get a somewhat of a real feel to it then a little grass and moss,
The weathering on the sandbags is
With some Ultimate sand wash also as for those extra bits they are all off of fleabay hope that helps a little more, it may get a few more things added to it as there's plenty of space

You evil sod so what I did was pour a thinned off black oil paint in a bucket then strategically placed upon the ground where a chubby finger errm pushed it over think that just about covers everything now for a bit

Really like both builds and the dio is fantastic!
The Airfix kits get hacked, but you guys keep making great stuff out of them.
I would want one of those big guns turned and guarding to the rear of that vehicle and helicopter

It is a superb dio

So a little update the eduard pe barb wire finally came so I got right on to it


Came out pretty good it was a right royal pain in the ass to work with,
Once that was done I discovered that I needed a pallet so I knocked up a little one out of lollipop sticks and matches not rocket science but was a bit fiddly with sausage fingers





Then it was time for a couple of bits to go on the pallet in the form of some more fuel drums and a tarp



All primed with ak grey primer then a light cover of Vallejo silver then a matt cote then sprayed some of the wife's (I promise) hairspray then a top cote of Vallejo dark green then rubbed it back with a stiff brush happy with the result the tarp had a black oil wash to darken it then a final Matt cote just need some dust on.
Then all I need to find is a set of 1/48 afghan baddies which seem to be rare as rocking horse crap so if anyone has a link that would be most helpful

so while i sat looking at it I thought it needed something else so decided to add some different grasses to help bring it to life and as always this last minute decision had to be on a bank holiday when everywhere is closed and no post so I had a little think and caught sight of a course paint brush in my pot nice thick bristled one already looked a bit like dry grass so
out came the knife


Then just grabbed a bunch dipped them in white glue left to dry,painted them with Vallejo flat brown and light brown then dusted





Then I decided to paint a fire extinguisher to put on the pallet with the fuel drums (we're British health and safety mad) so found some old decals painted it and it's turned out pretty good

I'm just trying to source some more figures Taliban type baddies to go in front of the helicopter either shot or surrendering so that's why they point that way just seem to be having difficulty finding the right figures it might end up being a cut and shut on a couple to get what I'm after thanks for stopping bye happy modeling
