Hello. I am new to the world of armour modelling, having had my previous experiences with aircraft. Several years ago I bought the Pegasus 1-72 T34-85 set and the Revell Panzer III Ausf. L. I was planning on making a winter diorama with some infantry that I have. Any tips on either historical accuracy or, more helpfully, on painting the tanks?

Welcome to armor modeling
Historically you could do the end of ww2 in the Baltic area but not sure of the panzer III since at this time it was normally out of the areas due to weak armor, but could still be seen. Painting you could use a white wash on both since both sides used this metod with weathering like chipping not much else you could do besides a wash for that scale.

Thanks for the advice. Since this is my first armor experience, I think I won't worry too much about historical accuracy. I'll try the white wash though. How does that work exactly?

For the scale you are doing a easy way could be you getting your paint thinning it out as if you are dry brushing (Get a paintbrush wipe on paper towel a little and will have less paint). This gives a pretty good effect for very small scales.

If you need a demonstration, here is a video on what Im talking about. :cheers2:

I have been working on this for the past few weeks, and here is my progress so far. The Two tank chassis have been assembled and painted witha base coat and winter camo. The details on the T-34/85 are finished, but the Panzer II needs a little more work. The Panzer tracks also need to be added.
The figures are coming along nicely. The Russians are all painted. The Germans are halfway there.

These are the sets that I am using

Once I finish with the models, I am going to create a winter diorama base.

Looks very elaborate. It will be cool to see what you do with it.

Thanks guys. Always good to hear encouragement from more experienced people. I will keep you updated on my progress. Soon the models will be done, and on to the diorama!

Finished the T-34 yesterday. Planning on finishing the Panzer this weekend. I was able to simulate rust by streaking some brown paint, but it's not perfect. Chipping achieved by dabbing on a mix of black and silver.

The T-34 is much bigger.

Hi guys. So, I finished the tanks and the figures. There's a little more detail that could be done, but if I try it I will go insane. Plus, I got my Tamiya Panther in the mail and I want to move on to my first 1-35 model. These are the final pictures of the models. When it stops raining I will go out to my dad's shed and get a piece of plywood for the diorama base. I am thinking simple winter scene, no trees.

I tried to simulate some track damage on the Panzer because I screwed up and put the upper hull on before the tracks.

That's it for now.
