Original 1971 kit, updated molds in 1992, snd reboxed in 2014.

I built the 1971 kit way back in 1971 with my Dad and ever since the shape of this aircraft has been pleasing to my eye.

Ok, first the cockpit...always first.

Quick update on my 1/32 big Mossie. I know some are 95% built already, but this one will take a bit longer to build.

Anyway...

Primed



Dry fit was excellent





Model Master Enamel RAF Interior Green 2062
Ammo Red Brown Shadow 912 for the leather
AK RLM 75 for the dark grey on the stick



Detailed up and glued


IP looks good for a basic mold only





Fits nicely







You know you're building a plane when you need all this stuff just for the first six steps! Love it!

It doesn't look all that bad of a kit either. The truth of the tale will be in the fits though.
Still, the parts look good.

Cracking start mate

Funny I just got the same kit the other day. It looks like a good kit and it is especially well priced. Look forward to seeing how you build it.

Lot's of glazing...yikes!





The masking was done by hand and took a long time...I forget how long, so don't ask.



And yes, that's Humbrol Maskol...nuff said.

Like this joint.



This joint was as bad as the rest, but turned out great!

With the above shot, you get the idea of the work involved cleaning up the joints, then vertical stabilizer joint was worked hard.

Terrible fitting thing!





Getting there...gigantic bugger



Oh yea, the nacelles fit was horrible.







After a lot of sanding, it was time for the primer coat and then ocean grey. And I mean A LOT of sanding, the fits were not good.









Straight on to the camo, RAF dark green



Think it came out as well as could be expected.









Right, on to the markings.









Props in place







Position lights...drilled out to represent bulbs, painted with acrylic clear red and clear green





And looking very much the part

Great work Jon! Like the detail in the position lights. Saw the technique in the AK FAQ book and still wanted to try it.
