Global Scale Modeller

Decided I wanted to do an aircraft and I love the look of the Lansen, I think it's quite different from the majority of other jets of it's time, plus I like it's profile. Obviously, we have these in stock on http://www.umpretail.com so, was an easy choice for my next build.

I recently reviewed the kit and although it's a bit flashy, I thought it looked OK and is what is to be expected from a small limited run manufacturer. Here's the review...

So on with the build.......

I plan to put this on a simple runway/airfield dio, which I'll do at the end.

Awesome box art as usual from Tarangus...




Contents + a little PE goodness for the Cockpit (it needs it!), airbrakes etc and Ladder & FOD covers...




Not too much plastic...




First things first; a quick test fit to see what I'm up against. And, as you can see, quite a bit actually...lol. I have to say that the fit is not good at all and will need a lot of fettling and cajoling to get it to together correctly.

The wings go together fine as does the top of the fuselage (except the tail fin area), but the underside is a whole different story, a lot of work needed here. Looks awesome though doesn't it...








Initial building task was to tackle the intakes. These needed quite a bit of work, but I enjoyed it as I love the building side of model making. You can see here on the left the finished article and on the right pre-work..lol






Resin seats were next. These needed quite a bit of clean up too, but it's only to be expected with resin. All ready for paint then some PE goodness to add to them..






Initial thoughts are that it's a diamond in the rough. It's going to need a little work and extra patience to see it through, but this is the only game in town for the Lansen in 1/48 and you have to take your hat off to Tarangus for having a go at it. As with all limited run kits from small manufacturers there's a lot of work to get it to a high standard, hopefully the journey will be a pleasant one. I'm really looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into this one

Its always nice to start a build and realise you are going to have to put all your skills into getting a good outcome. At least with this one you shouldn't have any problems getting the decals to fit!

lol - As I'm going along I realise that this kit is going to need a whole toolbox of skills

Nice work sofar, just keep going - it's gonna be a stunner. This funny old bird looks absolutely fantastic in dark green and dayglo decals.



The Tarangus kit is way much better than the polybay-packaged 1/72 Heller kit I got
Raised panellines, sinkmarks, flash/burr all over the place and poor fitting; It will sure need a whole lotta love to get that one into a representable shape...

Really like the lines of the Lansen. The kit looks pretty nice, actually. Nothing some elbow grease won't rectify. Might have to get me one of these. I purchased the Viggen but got to say I like this one better.

Cheers Rob. As you will see, every day is a new challenge...lol

So, had a little time a couple of days ago and I have to say this may well be a long term project for me. As you know, I have little time at the bench, but when I get there I'm looking forward to the new challenges this one is throwing up every time.....lol



Cockpit all taken down ready for PE and primed....





Next was to attack the intakes and exhaust. A lot of sanding a filling needed here.....













Then a quick test fit of the exhaust to see if all is OK and this.....



This is not going to be easy at all to rectify as the exhaust nozzle has absolutely nothing to sit on or butt up against to glue it on, nothing to attach it to, it just rattles around in there. So, it looks like I'm going to have to get adventurous with some sprue and styrene sheeting to make the attachment points need to get the nozzle attached to the fuselage. Should be fun

Okey... It seems that Lansen offers some "entertainment", same way as the Tunnan does...

Your're right, a couple of formers made from plasticard is probably the best way to go.

Yupp, this kit requires lots of TLC to come out nicely.
Its been built to death by now here in Sweden of course, well known to be a challenging build.
Here is one example that might help You:

If given the right TLC and patience it comes out as a very impressive kit in the end.
But...its not "shake n bake"
